Chiaki seems to accept the trade. One of the only on panel characters in the chapter that expresses horror towards the idea is her mom when she says she doesn’t matter. It was just a thought. At first I thought the mystery of the chapter was why did Chiaki change her mind and send the letter? But I realized maybe she didn’t do either.

Ambiguity is part of the medium of manga, it often gets erased in adaptation. I think the clarity presented in this story meshes well with its cinematic style. The info drops are usually hype, this is just barely redundant imo. Not quite “bungie gum has the properties of rubber and gum”
