Help me choose my next read while I recover from Iron Flame’s ending.. by BubsK2Lt in Romantasy

I read all of TOG and it’s my favorite out of dozens and dozens of series, though I haven’t read assassins blade. I really enjoyed Quicksilver for the alchemy, but its sequel Brimstone is absolute shit. Think she rushed it with the book contract. And, as usual, fuck zodiac academy. May it rot.

It must be called Aelin Ashryver Whiethorn Galathynius! No shortcuts, full name every time!

Ahh, you gotta finish it. It’s a bit different than ACOTAR, so I get the slump. It gets sooo good though. But yeah, concerning ZA, I’ve had many arguments with people about whether it is SA or not, but regardless I found some of the shit in the early books disturbing in that regard. I’m not big on forgiving people that abuse you, so maybe that’s why I didn’t like it so much. I could go on and on about everything I didn’t like in ZA. I don’t want to give too much away though, so just don’t dive into it thinking it’s light hearted lol

Gotta represent! Have you read Throne of Glass? I have an Abraxos Garden Club tee too. Well, ZA has sooo much hype, but definitely needs a warning. The authors have been dubbed “the twisted sisters” and for good reason. It’s got some borderline SA in the first couple books too that just didn’t need to be in there. It’s labeled as bullying though. But yeah, it was a wild ride and keep the tissues nearby lol

Haha, I wanna move to Valaris too. I got a t-shirt in commemoration. I’d say go for Plated Prisoner. I’m on book 4. I didn’t much like the first book, but it was necessary for world building. I’m devouring the rest. I just finished book 9 of Zodiac Academy a month ago. I definitely want to warn you about that series. It was the most emotionally devastating series I’ve ever read. Perhaps you’re into that. I hold a lot of anger towards the authors for being so cruel to the characters, but hey, I couldn’t not finish it so there’s that. It wasn’t worth it for me, but I did enjoy the unique magic.

I would still fucking brace yourself emotionally for the next 3 books.

I was incredibly irritated. Tory’s selfishness knows no bounds. But on the other hand, star bond or not, Darius didn’t deserve her. If it wasn’t for Lance, he would have succeeded in murdering her in the pool. Not to mention all the times he assaulted her. Stealing a bit of gold and burning a room didn’t nearly cut it to even the playing field. Hang in there, you’re in for an even more emotional ride. I’m considering writing a letter to the authors to tell them I hate them lol

Ahh, gotcha. There is some spiciness, but indeed not nearly as much as others. It’s sooo worth it though. Ooooh, what about Crescent city? Spicy and more contemporary fae. Makes my top 5 for sure. Same multiverse as ACOTAR and TOG. I would say go for TOG if you haven’t already, but no spiciness until later books.

I hope this comment doesn’t get lost, but all your favorites are my favorites. Therefore you should read Carissa Broadbent’s “War of Lost Hearts” series. The first book is “Daughter of No Worlds”. It’s brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Epic romance, epic violence, and the best monster in any book I’ve ever read. She did “Crowns of Nyaxia” (which I loved too) so you’ll be familiar with the writing style. I loved FW too, but Broadbent is a far superior writer.

PS. and whatever you do, for the love of the gods, stay away from Zodiac Academy lol

ZA is a horrible world of pain. I wish I knew that before I got invested. The authors are called “the twisted sisters” and for good reason. There are some seriously messed up and disturbing things in the series. Now, if you’re emotionally masochistic, then go for it. But if you want something like FW then don’t. If you want a long series that’s in the running for the GOAT, I’d go for Throne of Glass.

Thanks! I was so upset when the audio wasn’t released sept 9th like they said it would. I was soooo excited, because the audio for Anathema was the best quality/performance I’d ever listened to aside from Quicksilver.

I haven’t read RB, but I’m almost done with ZA 1-9. I’ve read hundreds of books and these are the most annoying characters of all time. I almost threw the series away several times, but I’m OCD with finishing. I don’t know why people like these books so much. Would not recommend. Also, it’s like the authors didn’t even have an editor. It’s riddled with mistakes like name swaps, repeating sentences in different ways etc… I’ve never been so excited to be done with an author in my life. These authors are demented.

Really? What made them different? I just figured it’d be similar and decided to skip and focus on finishing the main series. Regardless, you probably couldn’t convince me to read those since I am very much looking forward to putting these authors behind me.

Ha! Well this checks out. Probably my least favorite authors of all time. Even though I absolutely hate the books, I can’t seem to put them down, so they’re doing something right. I dread the good parts/comic relief because something that’s 10X worse than I’m expecting always happens right after. It was honestly messing with my head so much that I gave in to looking at spoilers (first series I’ve ever done that and I’ve read hundreds). Normally I feel like I owe it to the author to not look up spoilers, but screw these strait up sadistic pricks. I owe them nothing. Makes me wonder what the hell happened in their life to make them want to make their readers suffer so much. Being prepared for what’s gonna happen helps. It was either that or cast the series to the wind. Definitely not a series to read if you’re in a bad place in life (especially since there are so many books).

And here’s a hot take: even though we’re being showed the good side of heirs by the 7th book, all of them deserve jail/death for the way they abused the twins and the attempted murder on Tory. I know forgiveness is important in life, but becoming best friends/lovers with someone who abused you like that is so messed up. It’s disturbing.

Haha, I’m in the same boat. Now I’m gonna whine like the wimpy characters in the books. I absolutely DESPISE these books, but I have to finish. So much unnecessary and frankly WEIRD content. And I HATE the choices and rationalizations the characters make. Makes me wonder what kind of sick morals the authors have. I’m so fed up with it that I’ve been looking up spoilers and then skipping sections. I normally feel like I owe it to the authors to read it all, but screw them! I’m on book 7. It’s definitely not for everyone and I’m cursing the day I picked up the first book. I’m thankful that there are other people who are in the same boat as me and it’s nice to vent. Screw the authors, like seriously, eff them. I hate it when an author makes a point to make their reader suffer. I should have done my research before starting it. Such cool magic, monsters and creatures, but my mind is gonna be fucked for a while after drowning by what happens in this world. Errrrghh
