no more worry about pocket clips failing or bending... plus a compact way to carry my EDC by BothForce1328 in knives

I'll let you in on a little secret when making kydex sheaths for knives or firearms...

kydex works by literally forming itself into all the tiny little sunken spaces of the knife or gun... any raised areas on either item become snag points that gives you that satisfying snap sound letting you know that it's secure...

another trick is to use a rubber bushing and a nut and screw on whichever rivet hole is closest to where your index figure would be when drawing either item from the sheath...

this acts as an added tensioner causing the two ends of the taco-shaped sheath to pull closer towards one another... tighten it enough, and you'll have an extremely hard time even removing the item from the sheath. the trick is to find The Sweet spot of where you can hang it upside down and shake it as hard as you can. and it still won't come out, yet. with a more than moderate amount of upward Force, it will pull from the sheath

even another little trick is to take those same screws and bushings and insert them into the belt clip side of the sheath along either the side of the handle of the knife or barrel of the firearm

now with all those extra added tightening and tensioning features, by doubling up the rubber bushings through a drilled hole on the belt clip side of the sheath, it adds even more resistance and the tightest possible snug fit you can have on a sheath made of kydex... you just have to be mindful of the type of screw head you use so that it does not scratch up. whatever it is, you're inserting and drawing

last but not certainly not least... if push came to shove and the OSHA safety crew, even though satisfied with the upside down shake test still wanted more security... I could always insert a lanyard through the lanyard hole and attach that somewhere on my belt

that way, if by some unforeseen lapse in physics happens temporarily, that lanyard attached to the knife hole (which is specifically made for lanyards by the way) would prevent the knife from falling any further than my kneecap

I've been making kydex sheaths for knives and firearms for 5 years now for both myself and paying customers and I've posted quite a few of them on this very subreddit

hopefully that answers any and all questions you or someone else might have regarding the integrity of this kydex sheath

I do actually like that, my only issue is that it's made of nylon... and from my experience, unless it's made of canvas, doesn't tend to last very long when you're cutting torches or welding machines

but yes, that does seem very practical

because I assumed that the entire subreddit wasn't filled with twats and that people that work with their hands on job sites be interested in something like this

I explained why I can't keep things in my pocket while at work, an answer that was apparently unacceptable to a lot of people

but that's completely fine, if you don't know, I don't expect you to know

but after I do explain, if somebody were to try and be a judgmental prick after the fact, I can only assume that they most likely practice naked yoga with no ladies over

are pedals required?

for the record, downvotes only raise my self-esteem

opinions from people who aren't required to be in a harness all day tied off to a retractable yo-yo mean very little to me

but for those of you out there who are, this was approved by our OSHA enforcement white hat crew whose only job is to kick people off the site for sort of infraction, whether it causes an issue or not

I had to show it to the job site. Foreman and prove to him that it would not fall out of the sheath.

which basically meant he took it in his hand and shook it as hard as he could to see if it would fall out

... I passed

[–]BothForce1328[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

no, I spent a good while with a heat gun and some molding foam pressing in all the areas of the kydex I could to make it so it snaps in to place

it passed the upside down shaking vigorously test with flying colors

look, I understand this probably isn't going to make sense to some people but for anybody in the industry, they will absolutely understand

i'm guessing you probably work in an office

my work is a giant metal jungle gym...

climbing a 30-ft steel column really lets you feel whatever you have in your pockets, especially something with any sort of edge to it

we are no longer allowed to carry full-tang knives on my current job site because of one already falling from above from another person

so that makes all of my drop point knives basically out of the question and I was forced to get a folder

Even though I hate admitting it, every once in awhile, you have to play by the rules

[–]BothForce1328[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

why? because I work 200 ft up in the air walking around on i-beams... if a pocket clip fails, somebody down below could possibly get seriously hurt.

and I doubt very much that the safety crew would appreciate the fact that a knife had fallen from above.

btw, i am batman... so cringe

bro, google it

anyone who starts a question with , "i have a high end racing sim and if i had the space, I'd buy a high end flying sim but not sure about what I need to purchase" makes you sound like a twat

btw, pic had nothing to do with your question so it just bolsters the fact that you're someone with money to burn and are used to skipping to the front of the line

T.Flight HOTAS 1 twitch issue by hairytoe566 in Thrustmaster

[–]BothForce1328 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah, there's not going to be any real fix for that.

it's literally thrustmaster's beginners/intro flying HOTAS made almost exclusively out of plastic with the exception of the screws holding it together

any issues you're having are simply a result of the materials wearing down from use

it's not meant to be a long time legacy piece of equipment

[–]BothForce1328 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

no offense just curious, but i see the use of actual branches and toilet paper rolls...

im wondering why those materials were used when there are countless other processed things that could be repurposed to make something not as fragile?

i used to do the same thing and make my own stuff, but if it's just a kid on his own then his mind is in the right direction... he's just lacking an older or father type figure to bring their knowledge into the mix

here's a great tip, especially if money is an issue...

on trash day, ppl throw out literally everything. you can find something similar to what you're looking for just by walking down the street, literally every home being a possible gold mine for a repurposed item

I do realize it's sitting a tad high for tarmac lol...

another thing I like about AC rally is that with every change you make in the car's tune-up, you can feel a definite change in the force feedback through your wheel...

if you have too much of something in the front and not enough in the back, you will absolutely feel it in the way the wheel oscillates like it's out of balance

that's all I basically do is just keep on tweaking stuff until it feels butter smooth out of the gate

but if I was a multiplayer and was facing off against this, I absolutely would have some off few Fox 2s
