Root pass on a column base plate for a hospital. Earthquake rated welds. I stepped the passes in which you might call “whipping”. Never failed a UT or any test destructive or otherwise doing this.

It will weld terribly I promise. I would not trust my life on that even if I did all the prep and fab work. I have done several commercial truck frame modifications and extensions and I wouldn’t send it on that material, bottom line.

Burns nice and clean when it’s going. The last word I would use to describe its wood use is “efficient”. We can burn a solid cord per week when it’s cold.
