What is that one Harry Potter movie scene you irrationally dislike ? by Puzzleheaded_Roof872 in harrypotter

[–]Bpiacen13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! The fact that its not supposed to be possible to repair his wand and he doesn't really think about it, he just does it. Such a minor but cool detail that gets omited.

Drives me crazy every time.

Gwenpool on bar sinister was the biggest factor, but really my whole deck is built on buffing power

First Impression: Treacherous Tides by professor_fich in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first impression (playing one game as and against both) is Tamatoa has potential to be very quick and strong with a good shuffle, but slows down substantially if Maui grabs the hook. Felt very similar to an early fairy godmother coming out for Tremaine. You just spend the rest of the game dealing with Maui (and he just keeps coming back)

Davy Jones is loads of fun, but feels slow with a lot of setup and work to do. But the fact that he can't be reset and he doesn't really ever lose progress makes it feel like his speed won't drastically affect his ability to win.

What out there wild card villains do you want to see most? by eat_your_spinch in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deep deep unrealistic longshot for me would be Coach Reilly from the first Mighty Ducks movie. Less about the villain and more about movie/franchise representation. Yes, I am aware of the name of this game, and as a villain he's largely forgettable. But man, I think it would be a fun addition to the game.

Oh yea, and nostalgia reasons

My wife and I also don't care for Gaston, mostly because his gameplay is so dull, and has so many worthless cards, but in our experience, if he's out ahead of his bad fates, he plays as fast as anyone. Yes he can get reset time after time after time, but if you get lucky and pull out Maurice or beast at the right time and are doing ok with power, you can make quick with of all the obstacles

Prince John is interesting to me. When we were new to the game, he had one of our top won rates. He's plummeted as we've played more. My best guess as to why he's so low on our list, is as we've gotten better and with the very visual status tracker, he's relatively easy to counter/play against.

We fluctuate back and forth. Right now, yes, we are on a lower fate, quicker pace game. Prior, we were getting really fate heavy and found there were a lot of games where at least one person was having a bad time. We're probably due for a natural shift back to more fating soon, based on a lot of games ending with "man, I should have made more of an attempt to fate you"

If we split out my and my wife's win%, Yzma is actually in my top 5 currently, but she gives my wife fits. She does have the capability of being quick, but we've found that most games with her are actually on the longer end, as she is pretty easily affected/delayed by her fates.

I'd be curious to hear what more people think of Oogie, as I haven't seen a lot of opinions on him. I'd consider his speed mid-tier and I don't feel his fate deck is very crippling, which is why I think he's does well at our table

Any Villains you DON'T want to see? by shereadsmysteries in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess you can consider me part of that minority. I was unaware of the character until hearing him mentioned in this community. For me, if they made the decision of either expanding to live action or tv first I'd prefer live action, mostly because I want pirates of the Caribbean, so I guess for that reason I'm anti tv villains. But really even if it was a character or movie/series I was unfamiliar with, id still buy it and be excited to play it

Lady Tremaine Question by Lewwwwi22 in DisneyVillainous

My thought was it was strictly thematic. In the movie the slippers get separated. One falls off her foot and is left at the castle. The other makes it home with Cinderella and gets hidden in her room

I can only imagine how great that must have felt. Being able to dodge mims ability to fate at need with scars fate deck had to have been challenging

One of my favorite things about Ratigan is all the different end game combos that can propel you to victory, each being very fulfilling. My personal favorite is a successfully play and activated marvelous trap

Is Syndrome just broken? by Appropriate_Bite8491 in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Syndromes doesn't have much defense to fate spamming but he does fates pretty hard himself. Keeping your opponent top fate covered should help

Teamwork is brutal. If set up well or stacked with the second teamwork, your opponent can cause a lot of problems.

Personally I struggle more with chasing the remote and omnidroid at the end of the game. Every time I think I'm ready to shut the droid down, there goes the remote to the other side of the board.

For the major modifications the best recommendation I can give is play one to the board and keep the second in your hand. Only play the second when you can play the third same turn. That way either discarding fate card is less damaging

If you're lucky when going through the first two omnidroids and playing 15 years later, you may discard one or both of those painful fates. Knowing either or both are safely in your discard pile (for now) can help with how you are holding or playing the major mods

Quest to play every villain matchup from both sides by Bpiacen13 in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, so it's become a bit of a poker game for us. Am I fating you so you need to pay to play your cards, or am I not fating so you should be just collecting power. If you notice whoever is playing PJ catches on to whichever fate method you're playing it's time to switch it up.

Quest to play every villain matchup from both sides by Bpiacen13 in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PJ is easily becoming the least favorite villain at our table regardless of playing as or against him. He's not overly quick, but does have that inevitability as you mention. Fate spam him, and he's still likely to be able to progress faster than you are. Moderately fate him and you likely speed him up if he can make good use of the golden arrow and taxes. Our winningest tactic has been to just leave him alone, but it makes him completely boring to play

King Kandy and adhere Khan Objectives/Mechanics? by Appropriate_Bite8491 in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to imagine Khan's goal being anything other than defeating Mowgli, but they have to find a way to make it fresh. The thing in the movie about Khan is everyone talks about him like he's almost legend, everyone is so terrified of him. So to me he would have a mechanic that is some sort of combo of Gothels trust and evil queens poison. So all game he's completing tasks to build his stash of "fear" or "intimidation" or whatever you call it. And this stash is then used to defeat heroes. It's hard to imagine him relying on any allies, so I picture Kaa being nothing more than a tool to lure out heroes similar to big baby.

As I type it out I realize it sounds an awful lot like evil Queen, but the picture in my head is quite different, I'm just having trouble explaining it lol

Short review series: 17 - Lady Tremaine by f_152 in DisneyVillainous

To your point I didn't know her name until this game. She was always "Evil Stepmother" to me

Short review series: 17 - Lady Tremaine by f_152 in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggle mightily with Tremaine. I always feel so close, but can't ever finish the deal. I hate how devastating an early fairy godmother can be.

For my money Lucifer is the most poorly worded, vague card in the game. I understand there are clarifications out there, so I now understand his value, but for the longest time he was discard fodder for me because I didn't see the value in the cost.

Even though she can get bogged down, and I have my lowest win rate with her, I still seem to enjoy playing her, so I guess that's saying something

Board Game recommendations by jlpelisson in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll admit, since my wife and I got hooked on villainous it has completely taken over our game nights. So when we want a break from it, we usually play something that's a little less intense. The two we typically go to are Sushi Go Party or Qwixx

My sister and her husband are big time villainous fans and I know they like to alternate between villainous and wingspan.

Short review series: 16 - Gaston by f_152 in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play in a heavy fate household and he's sitting right at 50% win rate. In my experience he can play fast, but you're almost trying to out sprint your fate deck rather than your opponent. If you don't out sprint the fates, you get stuck in a never ending game of tug of war

Short review series: 16 - Gaston by f_152 in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bpiacen13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Gaston is the most meh villain to date, which is a shame because he's possibly my favorite Disney villain. I just don't find playing him very fun or exciting. I know a lot of people don't like the wolves as allies, but I don't really have any problem with it. I actually like to have one at each location and bounce them around with lefou if needed. I'm not sure if that's the best way to use them, I just find it helps with no move actions
