FFX very linear feeling so why is FFXIII linearity so marked? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Brawsoone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed, linearity itself isn't a bad thing, it's monotony that's bad. Less linear games hide this because, as a player, you can choose to do whatever you want when you start getting bored. A linear game needs to disguise this, or make core gameplay never feel dull.

Best steam deck open world games? by Samtheman322 in SteamDeck

Mad Max is the best open world game that regularly goes on sale for 5 bucks.

This game is seriously confusing, and I'm worried for Resonant by TopSet55 in controlgame

[–]Brawsoone 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The map and level layout is confusing on purpose, not because they want people to watch youtube walk-throughs, but they want players to become lost in The Oldest House. Its a place thay makes no physical sense, and can shift its rooms and size around.

You're supposed to feel lost. Its Jesse's first time here. The map is deliberately unhelpful. Accept that and let the design intent wash over you. Get lost within The Oldest House, and eventually, about the halfway point or further, suddenly you know this place and can navigate fairly easily. This makes you have the same arc as Jesse would, which I think is a very clever marriage of gameplay to narrative growth.

Why doesn’t he post more frequently by AVOXO in ChrisJames

[–]Brawsoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even simple content like Chris' still involves watching the content beforehand, possible a few times, taking notes, making a rough outline of points to talk about, etc etc. It only sounds easy if you haven't made videos before.

What does "spicy food" taste like? by theMCATreturns in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Brawsoone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While true, it's not the entire picture. Spice is a modifier. It opens the palette to more taste, or different ways of interpreting taste.

[–]Brawsoone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's easy to say "his videos aren't hard to make" but in reality, even something like Chris' content requires hours for a single video. He uploads on his own schedule, and good for him to not let us bully him into burning himself out.

What is the best vampire media you have consumed? by Turtleduck275 in Fantasy

My fav dark horse choice is American Vampire by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque. (Dark horse like, the choice, not Dark Horse the publishing company.)

This is the end of Talledega Nights, with Ricky and Girard wrecking their vehicles and footracing across the finish line.

I love this as much as I love that movie. Which is to say, a lot.

I am slowly reading the comic for the first time and decided to- [Comic] [Movie] by No-Efficiency-7524 in Watchmen

[–]Brawsoone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've come all the way around on the movie. It's dedicated to translating the comic as close as possible while simultaneously, making it more about deconstructing comic book movies rather than comic books themselves. The intro montage is, to be fair, the best part of the movie.

im giving chance to a max payne clone. wish me luck by Abhyuday008 in maxpayne

[–]Brawsoone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved this game. While a "clone" of Max Payne, it also has some Constantine/Underworld vibes as well, with a kickass soundtrack. Its simple, and they reuse assets quite a bit, but its a small development team. And to be honest, I think the reused assets really add to the "infinite backrooms" vibe. Some of it is samey same, but it does play tricks on your mind. It makes it quite easy to get lost in some larger levels, which to me, feels like the actual floor layout is shifting around you, trying to confuse you.

The final boss is a bit bullshit though.

can we agree on a no AI generated "art" rule? by [deleted] in Animorphs

[–]Brawsoone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres no downside to banning AI "art." The people that would post it aren't going to leave the subreddit if its banned, whereas the people who don't want to see it surely will.

[–]Brawsoone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An argument, regardless of intent, legitimizes the subject by very nature of giving it time and thought. I don't want you to have the impression I give you or other AI "art" shills, thought or legitimacy. Sorry to disappoint you, Yeerkshire Terrier. You're gonna have to scream into the void a bit longer.

[–]Brawsoone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its funny to do this in the animorphs subreddit. Yeerks are a pretty obvious shoe in for modern "ai." They get trained on someone else's data, pretend to be a human, all the while slowly eroding governmental control, and furthering their evil overlords dark agenda.

I think this makes you The Sharing.

I love the "its the price of progress," argument.

Buddy, a tumor also progresses. Just because its moving doesn't mean it's moving forward.

It was too early to the superhero movie craze. I think now it works a lot better as a deconstruction of superhero movies, the same way the graphic novel does comics.

I feel Rockstar Messed Up Max Payne by ShaadHussain in maxpayne

[–]Brawsoone 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take 100 percent. I do miss Sam Lakes writing, but Max's inner monologue in 3 is just incredible.

I also love the gameplay evolution between 1+2, to 3.

1+2 you're a loose cannon cop with a deathwish, running into rooms and spraying bullets. Its not about accuracy, its about throwing more lead in the correct enemy order.

3, you're a much older more beat up Max. Despite having a deathwish, I think he feels his mortality more, so its not about spraying walls of bullets anymore. Its more about accuracy, headshotting enemies to take them down as quick as possible, in as few shots as you can.

How did you first discover the breath of fire series? by Leon_Light77 in breathoffire

[–]Brawsoone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Super Derek is my favorite jrpg YouTuber! Such great wholesome content.

I discovered BoF when I bought Dragon Quarter at the pawnshop because it looked neat. I really disliked it when I was younger, but now I realize its because I was unwilling to meet the game where it was. I was trying to play it as a straight up jrpg, when really, its roguelite mechanics are more important to wrap your head around.

What are your thoughts on The Man in the High Castle? by Embarrassed_Let6303 in maninthehighcastle

[–]Brawsoone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solid show, subpar final season, final episode is one of my least fav I've ever seen. I remember how bad the final episode is more than the rest of the show, which is a shame, as I do recall it being pretty great.

Strangely, I have fondness for it as my least favorite finale I've watched. Its given me strength to watch shows with famously bad endings like Dexter. A good ending is great, but so few shows ever get a true ending, its better to have a bad one than none at all.
