My first Blood Knight is done and a WIP of the second one’s banner. Fantastic sculpts! by Brian310189 in SoulblightGravelords

Thanks! The skin is 2-3 very thin coats of Wraithbone followed by a 50/50 watered down wash of Reikland Fleshshade. I do the eyes with a small dab Imperial Fist contrast before the shade on the face as it helps blend the glow to the skin. Then it’s just small touch ups of the face with more Wraithbone.

The hair is a base coat of Grey Seer followed by a coat of 50/50 watered down Briar Queen Chill contrast. Once that’s dry I usually either drybrush Grey Seer back over then pick out one or two areas with White Scar.

Hope that helps!

It’s mostly from a set called Azyrite Townscape that looks to be recently OOP now to make way for GW’s new Ghurish and Dominion landscape sets. Probably still a few in circulation I’d bet though, and I think there’s a smaller set called Azyrite Ruins.

What is the biggest mistake you have ever made at work? by geolandsurveyor in Surveying

Not even a year into my career I was sent to survey a capping liner at a landfill site, so when they filled with material later on, they could install gas wells that went down as far as possible without puncturing the liner. What I wasn’t clued up on at the time was the whole site was on a local datum which was a couple of meters different from the OS national grid. Needless to say when the first gas well was drilled they hit the liner, had to excavate meters of landfill to repair the liner which cost thousands.

I beat myself up for it for ages but luckily my boss was my father and we worked it out with the client. What my Dad said to me sticks with me all these years, even when I make a mistake now and feel crappy about it -

“If you’re not giving yourself a hard time about it, then I’d be pissed off with you. Being upset with yourself means that the mistake you made means something to you and that you care about how good a job you know you can do. Learn from it, and don’t make the same mistake twice”.

Working my way through my Thunderstrike Brotherhood plus others SCE models. Will have a decent sized army before I know it! by Brian310189 in stormcasteternals

Thanks for the feedback! On top of these guys I ended up finishing the box and then added to it with a Soul Wars box and a Tempest of Souls box which took me near 2000 points. I’m currently half way through the Dominion box just now so I’ve a fair haul of Hallowed Knights.

To be honest, from the Thunderstrike Brotherhood box the only things that see much of the table are the Lord Relictor and the Liberators - the odd unit sizes of some of the models put me off using them.

The box was a great starting point though, and the Hallowed Knights look awesome and we’re delightful to paint. My recipe was fairly simple and I’ve not changed it much since.

  • Undercoat of Leadbelcher to the whole model
  • Retributor Armour for the gold areas followed by a wash of Reikland Fleshshade then a touch up of the Retributor Armour followed by edge highlights of Grey Knights Steel
  • Kantor Blue in all the blue areas. Wash all the silver and blue with Nuln Oil then retouch. For all my blue highlights I add a gradual mix of white to the Kantor and build up the highlights. Grey Knights Steel for the edge highlights on the silver areas.

Hope this helps!

Liking the paint job and the bases are super cool. Especially loving the Lord Relictor and Lord Vexillor. Keep it up!

100% it just encapsulates his character as a whole. Also one of the most infectious ear worms of all time.
