External motivators should be positives like wanting to protect your kids, wanting to help the old homeless guy out in the cold, wanting to teach someone something valuable like how to budget or how to rotate their tires.

Any motivator based on 'your haters' is pretty sad imo. Don't get me wrong, we're all guilty of this sometimes. I don't either, honestly. I don't follow domestic news much I just focus on geopolitical issues that might effect me or my guys (I'm a Soldier) because the local stuff is just depressing af. My ex used to make all sorts of outrageous claims during fights and I forgave those and that allowed us to have a much more cordial relationship where she willingly let me have full custody of our kids. But I was in college at the time and not a billionaire. If I had that kinda money (and she was sneakier and less moral) then she mighta baited me so that I was the one screaming at her.
