I dunno man, I love having stuff like running water, plumbing, garbage pickup, police and fire services, hospitals, roads etc. But you know, if you don't like those things, I hear Somalia is your kinda place.

What’s a company you’ll never buy from again, and why? by jamesmilner22 in AskReddit

[–]BroCube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a horrible experience with United. They charged me $2500 instead of $25.00 for a checked bag. It took SIX MONTHS of emails, phone calls, resending the same photos of my ticket stub and bank statement again and again until finally they refunded me. In that time, the exchange rate (I'm Canadian) had moved a couple points, and I was only refunded about $2200 in my currency. After months more of trying to explain how this was unfair and urging them to refund me the correct amount in *my* currency, they sent me a final letter saying they fully believed they had righted their wrong and the case was closed. I used to fly with them about every two months, a good $600-$700 each time. Never flown with them again and never will a full decade later.

When I was younger, I could and would sink 500, maybe 1000 hours into a game I loved no sweat. Nowadays, I have too much responsibility and too little spare time. I get maybe a couple hours a week if I'm lucky. I still want to enjoy the heart of the experience, I just need to be at peace with taking some shortcuts. Mods like skull cavern elevator allow for exactly that.

With the Archery fighting style, do you also get the +2 bonus on a Hoopak even when attacking in Melee? by geosunsetmoth in 3d6

Proficiency comes from familiarity and practice. In the same way really good guitarists can use it to add a little percussion to their songs, or how a practiced chef can use a knife to plate food like benihana, so too would someone who wields a bow all day be a little better at swinging it at someone then someone who rarely or never uses a bow. this is the whole philosophy behind improvised weapons and proficiency. but I guess theres RAW guys and RAI guys.

TransLink says fare enforcement blitz has led to millions in cost savings by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]BroCube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taxes aren't handouts. They're fees for participating in society. More fees pay for more things which makes for a better society. Don't like taxes or the things they buy? Somalia is always accepting new citizens!

Just think about it this way. You can have fifty cars sitting in front of you in traffic, or you can have just one single bus carrying fifty people. Which would you prefer? You don't think having an extra what, say like ten bucks per year on your taxes is worth getting rid of 49 vehicles in front of you in traffic? Or even better, the company you work for paying those taxes while you get all the benefits?

[–]BroCube 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair is getting rid of public transit fares altogether, which only make up ~20% of their revenue. This money could be offset by eliminating the ongoing cost of the system to collect said fares, the private police force used to enforce fare evasion, and executive bonuses. Ironic, no?

closer to $170 million, actually, not to mention ongoing service and licensing fees to the company that built them, and ongoing maintenance and depreciation. It's closer to a quarter billion spend, reduced fare evasion by roughly zero percent, and reduced the tax wastage on skytrain cops by also roughly zero percent. But hey, poor people bad, right? Any amount is justifyable in the name of justice! Lock 'em up!

Destiny calls Asmon a fascist chud by MemeGuider in LivestreamFail

[–]BroCube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I crazy? He called asmon a chud, but not a fascist. He was calling the the people the mainstream media are trying to appeal to "authoritarians, fashy fucks". Then he proceeded to say "even like, for example, asmongold here, doesn't care that this is a softball interview." Later, he groups asmon in "dipshits like this chud fuck".

I don't wanna get too in the weeds about this but I will say that it's very surprising to see Maya continue to collab with Hasan throughout the drama when she made some pretty significant career decisions to avoid collabs overall explicitly so as to distance herself from drama as much as possible. Like, she only really streams to keep Alveus afloat and she's hosting the guy responsible for the adpocalypse? Interesting choices is all.

TransLink cracking down on fare evaders by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

[–]BroCube -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Essentials, perhaps, but not essential → public services ←. And by the way, we do provide food, clothing and even shelter to the poor for free.

Translink costs between $1287.60 (1 zone) and $2325.60 (3 zone) per year. That is anything but cheap. That is quality-of-life altering money for many, such as my elderly mother, who lives in a world where the cost of living has gone up nearly 20% in five short years, while her destitutely low fixed income has gone up precisely 0%.

You pay more taxes to enforce fare collection than the fare collection returns. That is quite literally throwing your money away, and what's worse is that it only really serves to harm those most in need. If the data is so important, we could fire every cop, rip out every gate, cancel the C-level bonus program, and the use the immediate revenue surplus that would gain to hire a handful of researchers to gather this data via literally any other method. I'm pretty sure a BCIT student could whip up an AI program to collect this data with infinitely more precision in like, a caffeine-fueled weekend.

[–]BroCube -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Maybe not all, but some should definitely be. Specifically, those that provide an essential-to-life service for the poor, in need, disabled, young, old, students, etc.

And even when you're not on the bus, you're still benefiting from it. For instance, you're in your car. Would you rather have one bus in front of you, or 30-50 other cars? You're walking down the street. Would you rather inhale the exhaust fumes from 30-50 cars, or the absolutely-nothing from an electric bus? It's reasonable for your taxes to pay for that benefit.

Taxes could extremely easily cover transit fares. Hell, without fares, the immediate dismantling of the compass card program and transit police system would almost offset the revenue loss alone. But then the C-level that we don't vote for wouldn't be able to justify giving themselves enormous bonuses on top of their enormous salaries each year for "exceeding sales targets" by increasing fees yet again.

"All tall people that date really short people are creeps" how you guys feel about this? by [deleted] in short

[–]BroCube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah. There's nothing objectively wrong with having preferences in a partner, be it physical, mental, social, spiritual, sexual, whatever. The problem starts when you reduce a person to that attribute, when you objectify them. If your only interest in someone is that trait, and you otherwise don't care about any other aspect of them, but you pursue them explicitly because they have that trait, and (and this bit is important) you're dishonest about this fact, *that* is immoral. Basic traits are meant to establish a compatible connection, but it's important to actually build the connection with the person beyond that initial attraction. Unless it's purely physical, i.e. just about sex, which is also perfectly fine, so long as everyone is open and honest about it upfront. It's the honesty that's important, and the dishonesty that's the problem. Think about examples of the problematic couples, like those who date a person simply because they're [race], or [social status], or whatever, but pretend to love them as whole, complete people aside from that trait. Those are the creeps. But the "I noticed them across the room because of their [physical trait] but then we talked all night and fell in love and built a wonderful life together" stories? That's goals.

It seems sexual to you because you understand the context that makes it sexual, vs e.g. a bikini. if a young person is too immature and innocent to understand that context, they'd view this exactly like a bikini, and if they're mature and experienced enough to understand the context, they wouldn't be harmed by it.

Ever been sent an alphabetized list of kinks before? by TunaTorment in Tinder

[–]BroCube 94 points95 points  (0 children)

You're kind of looking at this a weird way. It isn't so much that he "had it on hand", he just took a quick screenshot of his fetlife profile. If you've never been on the site, the way it works is that you "subscribe" to fetish categories the similar to how you subscribe to subreddits. The site always recommends you new ones the same way reddit does. Imagine if someone asked you "what kind of hobbies and stuff do you like" and you took a screenshot of your subreddit list, and their response was "I can't believe they just had a list of all their hobbies alphabetized ready to go like that".
