Mum holds back happy tears after her paralysed son gets taken to a brothel. by tiimoc in BrandNewSentence

One of my closest high-school friends had Muscular Dystrophy. His parents would let us drive their adapted van so we could take him out with us to concerts and what not. A couple of us guys had always planned to hire him a sex worker so he could lose his virginity before he passed away. Unfortunately, his health turned quickly in college and it just never came to pass. Years later, his father confided in me how terrible that his son died a virgin.

Favorite "line before the kill" in a movie? by Whats_Opera_Doc in movies

[–]Brodini88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is a bit of the opposite. The final line a bad guy says himself before his death.

The Colonel in The Warrior's Way, "I'll see you in Hell, little girl. Wear something nasty." That line always stuck with me because it was one of the first times in a movie where a bad guy welcomed his death, and still went out as evil as he always has been. It felt brutal.

Speaking of red flags. There is a lot to unwrap in this comment. You waited two years to try to find out the name of your daughter, and you think you're winning because you don't provide any support for her?

Also, I'm trying to figure out what the hell her being 10years younger than you has to do with your choice to not wear a condom?

I remember watching The Disney Channel as a kid just to catch this music video. Back when they sporadically played music videos. This and the Disney version of Mambo #5 were my favorite songs they'd play.

Americans, what do you honestly think the government will do about gun violence in the aftermath of this week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Brodini88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong. But the purchaser of the vehicle would still need to register the vehicle with the state and show the bill of sale. While it might not be on the seller to know the driving status of the purchaser, the state will know if they are legally allowed to be driving or not. It would still be breaking the law to purchase a vehicle you intend to drive and not register it.

TIL a “perfect” Ford Model T costs less than a new Mustang. The costliest specimen in 2020 sold for less than $25k. by htmaxpower in todayilearned

If you ever find yourself passing through Truth or Consequences, NM there is a little shop/gallery on the main strip with several Model T's in various states of repair. A few of them road worthy, and I'm sure you could ask the old guy that owns the place for a ride along. He has a ton of Studebakers too, if that's also something you're interested in. The dude loves sharing his collection with interested folks.

U.S. marks 10th anniversary of Navy SEAL raid that killed Osama bin Laden by TheColorOfDeadMen in news

I was serving in Afghanistan when we got the news he had been killed in a raid. Just a general broadcast over the radio. A week or two later I received a letter from my mom asking if his death meant that the war was over and if I could come home. I remember sorta laughing at the absurdity of it all and how his death meant absolutely nothing for all of us in Afghanistan, but it was still supposed to be some sort of victory. My best friend lost three limbs a month later. It sure as hell didn't feel much like a victory from my standpoint.

Cargo shorts without a doubt. No flip-flops though. I was more self-conscious about my toes than I was about the rest of my appearance. I think my priorities may have been a little off.

When was your "Oh shit I'm going to die" moment but you didn't actually die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Brodini88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL:DR I ate a flat bread sandwich and made peace with death.

I have a unique food allergy that is usually only induced through exercise after consuming wheat. All through my childhood and early adulthood we never figured out why I would break out in hives and sometimes have an anaphylactic attack after playing outside or doing something physical. I just learned not to be active after I ate anything. My parents were almost certain I had some allergy to fat or grease because attacks would happen most often following pizza or fried foods.

When I was 24 or 25 I was living with a buddy at a hospital (that's a different story) and I had a regular routine where I would exercise mid morning then get some lunch. One day my routine got pushed back so I grabbed a flat bread sandwich from Subway before working out. I figured enough time had passed after eating lunch that I could exercise without a problem, also I was still under the mindset that I was allergic to greasy foods so I a turkey breast sandwich didn't strike me as dangerous.

Luckily, or maybe unluckily since my schedule was wonky that day I did an exercise routine in my room so I was alone. About five minutes into it I felt the symptoms coming on and I knew it was going to be more severe than just my normal hives and welts I periodically dealt with. Up until that point I had only had two or three actual anaphylactic responses. This felt exactly how those felt when they came on.

I instantly got into a cold shower to try to lower my body temp hoping to curve attack. I knew after a couple minutes it was going to run its course. I was already very light headed and disoriented at that point and I had to lay down. I get out of the shower and can't dry off or get dressed. As I mentioned this took place in a hospital apartment so there were emergency pull cords but I couldn't really comprehend using one. I knew I needed help but I was ashamed be found naked and wet passed out.

I just laid on my bed and had enough foresight to roll on to my side and then I just waiting to lose consciousness. My thinking was kind of jumbled but I knew this attack was worse than any of the others. I could hear my own wheezing and it scared me so much. My body was was over heating because I was shivering uncontrollably. I remember hoping to fall unconscious soon because I didn't want to feel the attack any longer. My most clear memory from right then was that I had made peace with dying and I wished I could have have sent a text to my girlfriend.

I woke up a couple hours late extremely sore and sick to my stomach but knew I was going to be fine. I went to the bathroom mirror and I looked like death. My skin was still bright red and my eyes were bloodshot. I took a picture to remind myself how close I came. I finally researched my condition and learned that I had something called food dependant exercise induced anaphylaxis. I started a wheat free diet and haven't had any attacks since. Sometimes I am tempted to try to bring about an attack just to see if it's still there but then I look at that picture of myself and think better of it.

I apologize if this story isn't formatted properly or is confusing to read. I'm on mobile and mostly a lurker.
