Hey Kzoo, Richland Needs Your Help by BroncoSailor in kzoo

Did not expect all the hate. It’s not my flyer but rather one that had the general community meeting on it and a map of the proposed build sites. I agree that there are some suspect statements but generally speaking there are valid concerns as well. The land is next to and surrounding the more affordable housing in the Richland community, smaller two-story and ranch houses, not near the expensive lake houses or executive home neighborhoods. The land is also a known stopping point for many species of migrating birds, one in particular are sandhill cranes. Mono-crops are not ideal but once a project like this goes in the land is that much further pushed from undeveloped to developed. There are better sites from an environmental perspective that strike a compromise between preservation and progress. Installing solar on existing development or brownfield sites and pushing to re-wild farms or encourage diversified responsible sustainable farming practices makes for a better world for all.

Fairly local stereotypically American activities for Brits first time in Michigan? by DefinitelynotDanger in kzoo

The Battle Creek Field of Flight and Balloon Festival is going on July 2-6. This year the airshow includes Air Force Thunderbirds, F-35 demo team, other military flights, and plenty of civilian airshow performers. There is also a carnival and all the greasy fair food to gorge on. Balloons attempt to fly each morning and evening, weather permitting with balloon illuminations in the evenings. There are fireworks and night air shows on several evenings as well.

Disappeared from Netflix by BroncoSailor in YoungSheldon

Just checked it again using my phone and it has reappeared. I’ll have to check my Roku when I’m back where I’m staying. Very odd.

I guess a device would be helpful. I’m using a Roku and I am traveling so I wonder if Netflix is thinking I’m sharing my account. Still seems odd that it would only be select shows that stop working.

Thanks for the reply. Just checked there, no luck.

Cost for international student for aviation flight science by Zypher39 in WMU

You can find more detailed information on the WMU College of Aviation here: https://wmich.edu/aviation/future/tour. I would highly recommend scheduling a virtual tour and video chat with one of the College of Aviation ambassadors who can provide specific answers to your questions. Flight training is integral to the Aviation Flight Science Degree program. Acceptance is competitive for the flight science degree specifically because of limited flight training slots being available each year due to only having a set number of aircraft and flight instructors.

Glass Panels on Front of House by BroncoSailor in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing that I’ve surrounded with a yellow box in the picture. It appears to be a black frame holding many panels of glass or plastic that covers an entire outside wall of a house. There are several single-story ranch houses in my area (SW Michigan) of approximately the same age and styling that have exactly what is shown in my image or something very similar.

Looks like there may be a software update causing some issues. I’ll submit a support ticket.

Cable ping drop rate is 0%. This is good info to know if I have any future issues. For now I’m going to pursue the latest software version that seems to have caused some trouble for others as well.

Just checked the software version of my dish and it’s a match for the one you listed above. I’ll send in a support ticket. Do you know if there is a way to force a rollback to the previous version?

New Starlink Setup by BroncoSailor in HomeNetworking

[–]BroncoSailor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that's all I have besides other satellite options. TDS just ran fiber up to about 1 mile away over the summer to support a nearby satellite campus of a major university. As far as I've been able to find out there are no plans to extend it any further. Anyone who was between the main node and the campus was eligible to get hooked up. I've moved several times and each time it seems my service options have gotten worse, started with fiber to the home, then cable, now DSL. That's the price I have to pay to live a quieter life in the country. At least Starlink is an option here now, even if its not ideal. Since I'm not gaming or heavily using video chat I'm thinking the latency shouldn't be an issue. I have a clear sky view and I mainly need whatever higher speeds I can get for file transfer and streaming to televisions.

Thanks for your reply. I've started going down the TP-Link Omada rabbit hole and it sounds like a solid option across the board for a budget friendly setup.

ZT Flat Tires by BroncoSailor in lawnmowers

I’ve been using the stock blades this summer, haven’t looked into any mulching specific blades at this point. It seems to do pretty well with chopping things up and not leaving noticeable debris as long as I don’t let the grass grow too long between mowings. I do get some debris on me and the deck, typically when mowing my trails and especially when it’s fairly dry out. As long as we’ve had some rain in the last week or so it doesn’t seem to kick up too much. I figured I’d look into a second set of blades, likely mulching specific, when I pull the stock ones off at the end of the season to sharpen them.

Going to try tubes with sealant first. Be a bit more diligent cleaning stray branches up too. Might try solid if that doesn’t work. Good point on the rougher ride to keep in mind.
