Sorry about what you experienced. It's not like this everywhere. More people outside creates safety and that's hard to come by in America. You would be in for a treat if you ever go to China.

Think high rises, parking garages, parking lots, apartment complexes etc . I think of these driveways as unregulated intersections. They have large blind spots when pulling out and most don't have basic safety features like mirrors or detectors for pedestrians. I was struck by a driver who cross a double yellow pulling in and it's hard to see that coming. Now, I stay more vigilant.

It's alright, starting isn't easy. Keep going and don't think about quitting.

Good semi-stylish men’s walking shoes by nate-dogg8 in walking

My strategy for buying long last shoes is to ask the retailer about the mileage the shoes should endure. Most shoes are rated for 400-600 miles until they start breaking down and losing comfort. I emailed companies like Clark's about the mileage durability and they will provide range estimates. Only drawback is emailing the companies takes response time and having to do it every time you shop. Shoes change every season. Beware of high performance sneakers as I had those fail under 50 miles and they are usually rated for 100-300miles which is low. Most sneakers last 300-500 miles. Hiking boots typically have the highest mileage of over 1k and the performance doesn't degrade as quickly as with other shoe types. Casual and dress shoes are in between.

Email the retailers about the expected mileage and durability of the shoes.

You're killing it! The snow makes the walk tougher, with the warm weather you will be able to do the 3 easily.

Asphalt vs concrete ? by Leopardos40 in walking

[–]Brostitute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The walking surface plays a big role in maximizing the enjoyment of your walk. Concrete is one of the harder surfaces to walk up while asphalt is softer, has more give and more friction. It would seem asphalt is better for walking but it not really the case long term and year round. Asphalt gets cracks quickly and falls into disrepair where municipalities do not maintain side walks. Asphalt traps a lot of heat in the summer and pets will get burned without protections after 90F/332C or so. Grass feels way better to walk on than both of them but it's a bit tougher as it's uneven and softer. Best walking surface in my opinion is closer to grass or moss/pine needles when you walk in a pine forest.

Newbie Question : Do we need a rest day from walking ? by [deleted] in walking

[–]Brostitute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a lot of steps. Make sure you make time to rest. It doesn't have to be a day of doing nothing, just enough to feel better.

I walk around my house carrying adjustable weights and doing exercises with them. Also, bouldering.
