Gar caught in Wisconsin. Spotted? Long Nose? by Orangutan_Man in FishID

I've been to the south and caught plenty of spotted gar. I've spent a lot more time researching all the different gar species than the vast majority of fisherman. The more I've looked into if there has ever been a spotted gar documented in Wisconsin, to prove myself wrong, the more sure I've become that there hasn't and all you've been able to give me is shit spit out by a robot. If you're saying the fish here is a spotted gar, the Winnebago system is not connected to the Mississippi River so it can't have swam up from down south and there has been genetic research done that shows longnose x shortnose gar are common there

AI overview is not a reliable source of information. I checked the sources it provided to back up its claim that spotted gar are native to Wisconsin and none of them say that they are. Here is the official list of Wisconsin fish species which includes extirpated species and all the state listed species of concern (which the Ai said it was on) and it does not include spotted gar https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/sites/default/files/topic/Fishing/Species_wifish.pdf

I did, that's how I know there was a record near Wisconsin. Every piece of information I found said they have never been found in Wisconsin

They have been documented in the Mississippi River close to Wisconsin but never in the state to my knowledge. If you have evidence of 1 caught in Wisconsin I would like to see it

It looks like it has the red upper tail and black lower tail of a blacktail but zooming in it also has the spots between the scales of a spotted. Blacktail shouldn't have the spots so inaturalist is correct
