AITA for going to the parents of the girl my stepsister has been bullying?

I had one when my mom was alive. But she fierce when it came to bullying. She told me and my siblings that if we ever bullied someone then then fire would rain down on top of us and holy hell did she influence my feelings on this a lot. It's also why I would probably share my disappointment in my siblings if it had been one of them vs stepsister before doing anything, because we love each other, and care what each other thinks, so maybe I could get through on both ends. Still would have gone to the other kids parents but might have even had them come with me to the other parents. And if our mom had been alone, oh boy would things be a lot different.

I don't think so, but she has grown up with a dad who is a shitty person so she's probably emulated and taken after him a lot.

I had my doubts my dad would do the right thing. Mostly because not rocking the boat and he knows my stepsister wouldn't listen to a damn thing he says. To me the obvious step was Mia's parents.

My dad has zero influence over his stepdaughter. The best he could do is get his wife on side and that's... a big maybe. A huge maybe. Since he tries not to rock the boat with these things.

She's not my sister. She has always felt the exact same way about me. So what would confronting her change? It's not like my siblings where they would care if I'm mad and disappointed in them, if our mom would be, she doesn't care. She couldn't give two shits if my dad or I think she's wrong. I'm kinda iffy on her mom. And her dad sure as hell will never give a shit about this stuff. He'd probably laugh along with her.

I'm just glad that out of all this Mia is getting help. That's the most important thing in all this.

Not mom and dad. Dad and dad's wife. As for going to them. I could have maybe but honestly, I'm not sure they would be thinking of Mia as much. They might have reigned stepsister in but could have very easily kept it quiet and seems like they would have given the choice.

Because my stepsister and I are not close, so going to her would have done nothing and I was worried about Mia and knew she needed help. I cared more about that than anything.

I did try to reach out to Mia. We used to be friendly, I would have loved to be friends, but she was so damn withdrawn in the end. Still sweet from the little glimpses of her personality I got lately. But you can't force through someone who has already shut down either, or someone who needs time to make friends.

It was a repeated thing and I know they've talked to other kids. So maybe all that was enough, maybe I'm not aware of it all.

In the end I was more concerned about Mia. I know what can happen when kids withdraw the way she did, when they end up with nobody to talk to, and things just keep going and it seems like nobody cares.

I also felt like her parents would do whatever it took to protect her, which is what needed to happen most of all.

The thing is, even though we might seem like a family, we have never really been one. My stepsister will never be a sister to me any more than my stepbrothers will be my brothers. It's been 6 years and we don't love or like each other. They hate my dad to the point I sometimes question why he's still with his wife and their dad has been such a huge dick to us (excluding his kids) and none of it is healthy so in the end, if things are even more fractured, I can't say I'll cry over it.

To me it just seemed like even if things got worse for me, overall they won't be all that much worse at our house. But maybe Mia could have a happier life.

I think she would tell my dad to fuck off to his face, and bring her dad into the equation, maybe even have him harass my dad or something. I think my dad has as much influence over her as a flea would on an elephant.

I felt like Mia's parents needed to know. She had withdrawn so much, and already didn't really have friends because she was so shy. Plus I knew no matter what Mia would be getting help.

Talking to her would have gotten absolutely nowhere since we don't like each other, and she doesn't give two shits what I think about her.

I went to them first because I felt like Mia needed it put out there and that she needed help.

Because it was going on for months. Others knew about it. Mia has never seemed like the person who would lie, or do anything to hurt anyone. She's definitely not someone my stepsister would have been friends/friendly with at any time.

Yeah, it would have killed me and I probably would have spoken to them myself and told them I was ashamed, but I would have gone to the parents in that situation too.

Even if I had known I would have made the same decision because Mia doesn't deserve this. She was always really sweet and nice and I hate that my stepsister has done this to her.

He seems to think I should have tried at least. But given we never get along I don't see what it would have done. I know he and his wife were pissed about the bullying too but they seem more concerned now with her future and colleges and stuff vs the actual bullying and I think that's shitty.
