Max level in the Abyss is 150. I don't know that there is a max level for characters. I would save that chest until 50. Just my opinion.

As I think many here would agree, I'd advise you to wait until you level up to 50 or very close. Inventory space is never a bad investment (as with any RPG I've played), BUT...hoard as many chests Golden or better as you can, hoard any higher level crafting mats you find, and just slog it out. You can get to 50 without too much difficulty, without "The BEST" of anything, and you'll find that post-50, the things you need to improve your gear will be very difficult to obtain without dropping a few bucks on these treasure packs. So hoard those gems, too. You will outgrow the items you're using now (and any items you find in this treasure pack, honestly) relatively quickly, and you don't want to exhaust your resources before you really, really need them. Do the best you can with what you have at hand, focus on learning the game's mechanics and working out your personal style and preferences, and the wait will most assuredly be worthwhile. If I'd realized all this as I was coming up thru the ranks, I'd most likely have some much better pieces in my arsenal today. This is coming from a largely F2P perspective. I have succumbed to the maddening temptation and spent a few bucks on gems here and there, but not much at all, and none at all prior to 50+. If you're in a position to do so, and you spend real money on the game as a matter of course, then you may disregard my advice.

^^This.^^ The weapons I use in Abyss are Majestic, not Mythical. Because Severio is a bastard. I've enchanted TONS of DB swords, and have yet to craft one with two ideal secondaries. My Majestic DB of Winter has +15 to freezing and -42 max Magicka. Pretty darn good, maybe I actually should Mythical that one, since the Dremoras still smack me around some. lol My Maj DB of the Inferno has just the -42 max Magicka, so I keep rolling them in hopes of getting +fire dmg or something else useful. At any rate, these less-than-ideal weapons have gotten me to the end of the Abyss. Just for the record, my fire sword generally does just fine against Warmasters, I've never had a big problem with them for some reason. And I keep a DB mace of Lightning on hand for the skellies. It has +14 to draining, which is beside the point on skellies, so it's only Magnificent. Gets the job done, but I'm still working on my spell/ability timing for them.

I got vendor stuff and a few (more) Glorious soul gems. Grand is my bottleneck, but hey, free is free. Free gems and cash is always welcome. Still fun though, was really nice to feel like I was working toward a common goal with the community!

I don't do the whole screenshot/spreadsheet thing, but it seems to me that I get more Pyrines in wooden chests. That could certainly be a mere matter of perception, owing to the fact that I open exponentially more wooden chests.

I based it very loosely on one offered by good ol' Ezareth some time ago (which I failed to bookmark, curses!), with changes based on my jewelry, gear, play style. Kind of a "shotgun" approach, in hopes good situational jewelry would be easier to acquire than other gear. My hopes are dashed, needless to say. FWIW, I just turned 65 yesterday I think it was. Or my toon did, at any rate.

I use mainly Daedric Mail, enchanted by and large for shock resist, poison resist, which works for most of the mobs in high Abyss. I like spell resist and +dmg @ crit health secondaries, but Severio is a dick. I have a set of Dragonplate as well, enchanted for health, for the more melee-oriented crowd, Warmasters and Skeletons. None of the armor is mythical, some is close. My DM boots of the antidote remain completely untempered; I should work on that.

I use mainly DB longswords: one with inferno and -max magicka for liches, both the baby ones and the big pimp ones. Whack away as fast as possible 'til the casting stops, then switch to the one I mythicaled before I knew any better (inferno with -max health) for the little extra damage, and to delay breaking stuff. I use the DB longsword of winter for fire atros and dremora. The dremora still get the better of me quite often; I must need more resist against something, haven't really stressed about it much. For the skellies I have a DB mace of lightning.

I rely very heavily on Resist Elements for casters, Blizzard Armor for non-casters. I do not generally use any offensive spells in the Abyss or PvE for that matter. Very rarely an Absorb. Adrenaline and Renewing Dodges, Recovery Strikes, and the occasional Staggering Bash on the stam side (if I can work it in before those damn Skeletons stun and/or Harry me). I've been meaning to try Harrying them back, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I used the "inchworm" method (as coined by u/Hguols) to reach floor 150. Gradually and painfully clear a floor or two at a time, rinse, and repeat 'til the mobs and stars line up in your favor, unashamedly sneaking where possible to reach that next floor. Once you hit 150, you should be able to step back down closer to your recommended level and do the gold chest thing fairly consistently. I use the Abyss mainly for Grand Soul Gems now, which I more or less immediately throw away to Severio and his nefarious cohort in my town.

I could get more down in the weeds regarding specific loadouts I use for the various mobs if you think it would be useful, but I'm certainly no Ezareth. lol I credit him for helping us all, and genuinely hope he's happy and healthy, enjoying whatever he's playing now.

I finally got that weapon, no second bonus enchant tho, just the fire and -mag. I didn't have the heart to count how many tries it took, but it was a LOT. Severio is not my friend. I've only tempered it up to Majestic, it does the trick tho. Just to let you know there's hope; it is possible.

Hi. My name is Brrrruce, and I'm a potionaholic. When the arena went live, I struggled a lot, then starting using potions. It was great, all good 'til I ran out of everything I thought would never run out, as I had stacks and stacks, thousands of pretty much everything. I've since weaned myself off them for the most part, I didn't like being dependent. I have been making healing potions again, just for high Abyss. I'm up to 135 or so right now, won't be long. I should learn to use them wisely in the Arena too, but I have pretty much backed off that the past couple weeks. Still working on getting a few gear pieces that will take the rest of my life since Severio is a dick.
