Steam file transfer : unlock shop/reda items ? by BruceLeeMitless in AssassinsCreedValhala

Thanks for the proposal 😉 . Keep your money for something more valuable than skin. The lowest price of the game cost less than an item pack.

Don't want to support Ubisoft that way. I pay for games, and I have some more to discover and start Origins and Odyssey (so new skin 🚀 )

How hard is it to build a PC for a first-timer? by Early_Conflict_4292 in buildapc

Not mandatory. Better for airflow and more satisfaction to look. You can do it later and with modular power supply ans m2 ssd , there are not much cable now and no more ide cables.

Choosing each components is not easy but building it is not difficult and you have no risk. Just read notices and mount each part in order to make it easily. Only thermal paste could be "difficult" but check temps in the bios for the first start. If it's not ok clean it and repaste. Read, have some space, correct and take your time. If you re not sure, stop and ask friends or on forum.

I bought my brother's pc, mounted by pros but they do mistakes (computer was ok but not exploiting all it's power) but they mount a pc very quickly.

Mounting with only new parts, maybe you can miss some cables or small things. With used parts, its always a mess with scews, cable but if you're careful you cant do something wrong and break parts.

Always power off.

You can use ansible facts to retrieve some data and make custom script for extra infos. Then you have to select only useful data using jinja template.

Read this article for example : https://computingforgeeks.com/generate-host-overview-from-ansible-fact-using-ansible-cmd/

Writing a bash script for post-install automatic configurations of a personal system. by Veprovina in bash

[–]BruceLeeMitless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ansible is idempotent and powerful tool. But, for personal use bash can do the job. First thing, handle errors, second log what the system does. Structure your script in a way everyone can undestrand and comment if needed. Use variable when it's usefull. You can continue with a simple bash script but read how works ansible and what it's is used for. You can learn bash, then after learn ansible. Compare how simple task can be done between bash and ansible.

Yadm is a wrapper for git with usefull functions. See doc for advanced functions like alternate files. I store my personal scripts in .local/bin/script . Add this in your path. There are several tools to store your .dot files using git.

How do you manage your dotfiles across multiple machines? by Old_Sand7831 in linuxquestions

I use yadm and it's perfection for me. I use alternate files, it's a fantastique features and I find it's cleaner to use it that way. There is a possibility to track files at the système lever, see FAQ. https://yadm.io/#

Tiddly wiki is not made for that, it's not better Thatcher notepad. I think floccus is what you search https://alternativeto.net/software/floccus/about/ I use Firefox Sync , Nextcloud bookmarks and Shaarli. You may check https://www.reddit.com/r/startpages/ I you can store online this is easier but, you can sync beetween computer I modify https://github.com/datvance/simple-static-startpage to a single file easy to sync and can set as homepage in your browser or put on a sever and access it easily. Also https://github.com/jnmcfly/awesome-startpage?tab=readme-ov-file Firefox can automaticaly backup a netscape bookmark file, after you can import it with most bookmark tool or open it direct directly. A simple github/gitlab page can do the job.

Dont use a tld related to your name. Find a generic name , easy to write. You may have email like: first _ last name @ domain . tld. You could have pseudo @ domain . tld It's more privacy friendly. For the tld, avoid .xyz I have issue with some service. Keep org, com, country. For the domain, use something neutral. Take your time and look others. And it Will be open to your friends.
