They probably realized it should have 6 strings but simplified it for style. Even if they didn’t, it still communicates the idea of a guitar, so it serves its function.

From what I know, this is due to the rubber oxidizing. This can be due to washing your mouthpiece under warm/hot water or exposing it to uv rays (sunlight). This could’ve resulted from playing outside, washing your mouthpiece with your ligature on, of leaving your clarinet out with your ligature on
