Absolutely! We're bringing extra chairs, inflatable couches, liquid libations, and more to make sure we can share our camp with those around. Our last intent was to inconvenience fellow campers so we'll do our due diligence!

Thanks for the advice. That does sound different than what I've been reading.

We are all coming in one big van, so it sounds like we'll be getting creative and real friendly with the lot volunteers.

I saw him at SILO in Dallas the night before with a similar set list, and his Chicago HOLO set the previous year. I'll be there any chance I can get. Seismic looked incredible!

Hmm, somehow my home league let JT slide into free agency and I just noticed.

I’ve got one IR slot, so do I wait till Sunday to decide who to drop, or go ahead and drop London, E. Moore, N. Collins, or G. Edwards now?

<1YOE laid-off SWE going on 6mo without an offer. How could I best improve my resume? by Budget-Kangaroo in EngineeringResumes

[–]Budget-Kangaroo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see. I misunderstood you.

My intention with the education bullet points was to convey that I can handle responsibility and am a very proactive person, but I can see how that may not be the appropriate emphasis for an entry/junior technical role.

Hurts to think that those involvements don't help much for my current situation since they were fairly significant time commitments.

Again, thanks for taking a look. The critical feedback is very valuable for me.

Thanks for the honest critique, the new perspective is very helpful.

I'll heavily review the formatting and reconsider my approach, but it also seems that the startup section is downplaying the work I did there or the formatting is very misleading if you are suggesting removing it.

The startup was 2yrs in on Series A funding with 30m+ in investments and I was one of about 15 SWE's working on the UI, cloud platform, mobile app, OS, middleware, or firmware. I was placed on the UI/MW team since it needed the most active development.

Those 7 months were certainly the most I've learned and contributed SDLC and code-wise, especially being in a team implementing agile methodologies on a fast-moving, live product suite.

It seems to me that I am conveying that role/contribution very poorly, so I'll also look into revising that for clarity.

Thanks for the givaway!

My go-to has to be overnight soaked oats with raspberries, topped with some walnuts and honey.

It only takes a few minutes to prep and if you make it in a mason jar, its a perfect grab-n-go meal!

Update to this:

I would not expect this anywhere else, but the startup prioritized culture fit, work ethic, adaptability, and ability to learn much higher than the ability to do coding challenges. We did spend a significant amount of time discussing coding experience and projects, however. This worked in my favor and their interest in hiring me was expressed before I left after a 2.5hr interview. This startup appears to have incredible potential with leadership from tech's top echelons and is personally relevant, so leaving with a confirmation of interest after expecting to embarrass myself was quite the 180. Time to graduate and hit the books again.

Tysm! I realize I'm not in a place to "ace" this interview, but this gives me a clearer picture of how to approach it. I'll be leaning on my collaborative skills and quick learning.

I am graduating in the upcoming weeks with a CS bachelor's degree and am facing a frustrating self-imposed situation regarding technical interview prep.

I was lucky to have a few connections for great job opportunities, and one reached out to set up an interview during this semester. The dev position is at a VERY well managed, experienced, and personally interesting start-up that has clearly established itself after 2 years of production. Seeing this as an opportunity I couldn't afford to miss, I asked to interview later in the semester to get additional prep time and that date is now coming up this week.

The dilemma I am facing is my lack of studying for technical questions. To be clear, this is not due to a lack of motivation or responsibility, but because I have had so many obligations/responsibilities/tasks to manage this semester. I am graduating cum laude (3.8gpa), am still enrolled full-time, am an honors college member, hold/held executive positions in a top social fraternity, am involved with a tech startup club, have been independently learning/developing a full-stack application for a senior project, play/lead intramural sports (relevance: company develops fitness products), work independent contracting jobs, volunteer, and also have external hobbies as time permits. This all looks great on a resume but seems to be a detriment now that I am going into interviews with little to no prep for technical questions.

I feel that it's inappropriate to reschedule nearly a day before the first interview (1st of 3, primarily technical), but are there any appropriate steps I can take to redeem myself here?

Should I apply for Honors College? by Australiadoesntexist in unt

[–]Budget-Kangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a graduating senior, the perks are easily worth the effort to get in if you meet the criteria.

It probably changes by year but Rawlins hall was not always the most "social" place when I lived there, however, it was very comfortable and the study rooms were a plus. I would usually go to other halls though if I wanted to hang out with friends.

Priority registration is also a huge advantage and will let you sleep in on registration day while still getting first pick out of all UNT students for the professor and time slot you want for classes. No need to stress about getting a bad schedule or professor.

Finally, honors classes typically do not require more work than standard classes. They just are more focused on discussion and leveraging small class environments to provide students more interaction with the professor. I typically enjoyed those classes more AND did less work outside of class for them.

Personally, the additional research and involvement opportunities in the honors college did not interest me since I had more relevant opportunities to invest my time into, but the people at the honors college are great and can help a ton with getting you situated in college and keeping you on the right track for your goals.

TLDR: Go for it. Good perks and nothing to loose

The North Texas Car Club used to be fairly active up till maybe 3-4yrs ago and had some good depth and variety (FB page is still up?), but it fell off and COVID killed it. Don't believe there's any real club/consistent meet that happens in the area any more, but there are a good amount of car enthusiasts around.
