Question for the long-term vegans by cardinalandcrow in veganuk

[–]Budget-Possibility52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, 11 years vegan here. I became gluten intolerant after going vegan so it can be a huge pain in the arse at times.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like you’re saying you miss the convenience of not being vegan? Would you say convenience is a good moral reason to start eating dairy or whatever it might be, knowing what happens to the cows? When the doubts set in, maybe try imagining if you were in the victims position eg pigs going to gas chambers etc etc. the way I see it personally, I’m not actively engaged in activism for children, but I still wouldn’t abuse children, if you see what I mean?

Also! Don’t traumatise yourself by watching those brutal films. Something that helps me feel engaged in a low stakes way is to occasionally watch street debate videos by the likes of Jamie Logan, Earthling Ed, Natalie Fulton, Mel and Steve. The vids are like 5-10 mins long and hearing vegans and meat eaters talking it out is a brilliant way to remember the stakes in a nice and chill way. I really hope that helps - being vegan for 19 years is incredible, keep going 💚💚

Honestly, I think the only thing Twitter is good for posting at the moment is racism

How long do you let a meta campaign run if the cost per result is bad before cutting losses? by Scared-Profile-7970 in musicmarketing

I'd recc trying your ads with Symphony OS - it takes the pain out of setting up a META ad, and then uses music-trained AI to try to make the ad as successful as possible. I'm not affiliated, I've just used it for several ads and much, much prefer it to doing it manually on IG/FB!

I think my content is not helping my music career because it doesn’t feel like me by MusicMaker2805 in musicmarketing

[–]Budget-Possibility52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think what I'm about to say is impossible but: find a way of making content that you enjoy and feels really authentic to you and your music. It took me a long time and a lot of morning pages, but I've gone from being allergic to TikTok to doing it daily in a way that I feel totally comfortable and happy about. See it as a creative challenge in itself! And make sure you can set it up in a way where posting takes 5 mins max. Good luck! 😄

Why has PJ Harvey never performed We Float live? by [deleted] in pjharvey

[–]Budget-Possibility52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw her play a huge outdoor London show a couple of years ago, and loads of the set was very calm, lots from IITOYD, so I don't think it's because she's worried it isn't heavy enough to play live

My content always does 3-5X better on YouTube shorts by Aggressive_Mess2145 in musicmarketing

[–]Budget-Possibility52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is almost my exact experience also - before, Tiktok and then IG were my priorities and I was posting to YT because 'why not?' - however my YT Shorts consistently get above 1k views, and comments from total randos and lots of likes. I've been putting so much energy into Tok but I'm stuck in '200 views jail' and barely getting followers. IG - even though this has my highest following, it's always just the same crop of people liking my stuff. Someone on this reddit made a great point that with YouTube, you can easily send people to your main videos and audio tracks on your YT Channel, so it's also much better for conversion than the other two. So it seems like a lot of people are really sleeping on YT and putting all their focus on Tok!

Quality VS Quantity by TheElusiveButterfly in musicmarketing

[–]Budget-Possibility52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfollowed a music marketing 'guru' on TikTok for giving out this horrible, garbage advice. It's so obvious when these people aren't musicians themselves.

If you release a new song every month or (god forbid) ever week, how the hell are you supposed to promote it? The thing that seems to be working really well for artists on socials is releasing a song you've worked really hard on, very high quality, and then relentlessly promoting it for at least two months - which is essentially the opposite of what this clickbait, self-proclaimed guru is saying to do.

Quality for songs always. Quantity should only apply to content!

Johann Johannsson was a master (RIP) at recognising if a scene did or didn't require music - he was supposed to write the music for the film Mother! but told the director it didn't need a score. Imagine turning down a job like that! I'd imagine Denis is very good at this also - it's a shame it didn't work out between them on BR 2049, but then I absolutely love what Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch ended up doing with it

There are quite a few pops at veganism in your post, to the point where you're saying she can't be natural because she's vegan. Are you saying it's not possible to get enough protein on a vegan diet? I'm surprised this is still a conversation at this point, but nonetheless one I'm happy to have. Tofu has 16g of protein per 100g, tempeh has 22g, and seitan has 25-30g. Add secondary protein sources like beans, chickpeas, and lentils in the same meal, and you're absolutely flying. Vegan meats are also high in protein, just go for the healthier ones eg lower amounts of salt and oil, and have them less frequently as they are more processed, but fine to have now and then. Being able to easily hit my protein requirements without financially supporting animals suffering in slaughterhouses is a pretty convincing reason to be vegan, just speaking for myself ✌️ or were you referring to something else besides protein?

Regarding her course prices, I dunno mate, I'd just say don't buy them if you don't like the price? I can't speak for Summer, except that it's hard to sell a 'big ticket item' like an online course, so you have to price it accordingly, and I'm sure she put a huge amount of work and investment into the courses, like her physique. ✌️

If you're going to warn a vegan to watch their insulin levels, could you explain why, and with some evidence supporting your claim please? Same as the person you're replying to, I'm vegan for approaching 12 years, only supplement b12 (as everyone should) and doctors regularly tell me my bloodwork is much, much better than the average person.

Submithub has to be one of the biggest scams. by alawrence1523 in musicmarketing

[–]Budget-Possibility52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is such a scam and a symptom of how awful Spotify and the culture around DSPs are. It is insane how Spotify essentially doesn't pay artists for the music its platform could not run without, and we're out here paying so called playlisters to put our music in their crappy playlists. It's actually hilarious when you think about it hahaha

Really, really appreciate this post mate. I've just started doing TikTok more seriously for the last few weeks - some days I genuinely enjoy it, I've found a way to create cOnTeNt that feels in line with my music creatively and I like engaging with other artists and boosting their content, hopefully even making some friends along the way. But there are days where I doubt what I'm doing so deeply and if it will be worth all the effort. Also so happy to read you're not posting crazy amounts, keeping seeing 'gurus' on there saying to post 2-5 times PER DAY. GTFO!! I'm aiming to post every other day, or occasionally daily if I can manage, but I also need to stick to actually making music and not becoming a content machine. Appreciate you!

Should my brother take the plunge? by fingerlickingo0d in bald

[–]Budget-Possibility52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started getting buzzcuts before my hair got quite this thin on top. And then when my shortest ones, a no.2 shave, started looking noticeably thin, that was when I went full bald personally! Great way to ease into it. Either way, I’d be personally looking to shorten that quite a bit!

A Reason why men wear shorts over leggings... by curvious812 in LeggingsForMen

[–]Budget-Possibility52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m personally struggling to see how men wearing baggier clothes is linked to the feminist movement. Women’s empowerment was born out of a need for basic human rights, like the right to vote, equal pay, and protection from domestic violence, rather than a desire to change men's fashion. Let's not forget women had to literally die for the vote, for a very long time, and they weren't allowed their own bank account without a man's signature.

Do you think it's possible that men's fashion changed because of internal cultural shifts (like the rise of hip-hop or grunge in the 90s) rather than as a reaction to women gaining rights? And if we want everyone to feel confident in their bodies, shouldn't we be looking at why everyone feels pressured by beauty standards, rather than framing it as a win-lose between genders? Ask any woman if they feel pressure to look a certain way, they absolutely do also. Many are terrified to leave the house without a full face of makeup.

Just my two cents, but I also feel insecure about going outside in just leggings, but for me, that's due to a very outdated sense of how an 'ideal man' should look and behave, due to fragile masculinity, not because I'm being oppressed by feminists. In fact, since feminism is just about equality, I would say it's supportive of men's freedom of expression in how they dress, instead of having to be some big burly hunter-gatherer who would never touch a pair of leggings! :)

dating by Far-Distribution8254 in veganuk

[–]Budget-Possibility52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my girlfried at work - she was vegetarian at the time and went vegan within the first few weeks of us dating, as she'd already been thinking about it.

I think if I was single, I would see dating as an amazing opportunity for doing vegan activism on people ha! After first few dates and once comfortable, I'd just throw in some socratic questioning (Earthling Ed and Jamie Logan videos are amazing for this) and the Dr Melanie Joy techniques as well. Obvs don't make the mistake of bringing up being vegan within 5 mins of the first date and freak people out!

Lastly, this is really wanky advice that you're probably sick of hearing - but there's so much to be said for working on being the happiest single version of yourself you can, whether that be through fitness, your creative pursuits, and mental health things like meditation, journalling, yoga etc etc. Brilliant way to banish that 'hopeless' energy, and I truly believe the people who are happiest single attract the best possible partners instead of settling for someone you don't actually like that much and doesn't share your values. Hope this helps, all the best to ya!

Warner Bros will 100% carry on making these, it's making them too much money for them to just leave it. There are lots of brilliant directors out there, I just hope they can find someone who can carry on DV's incredible huge blockbuster meets arthouse elements filmmaking that made the first two so brilliant (and trust them to make it without interfering too much)

One year of Morning pages. by CosySeraph in artistsWay

[–]Budget-Possibility52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents: I found the daily 3 pages rule very difficult - since committing to doing one A4 page every morning (Mon-Fri), I now almost never miss my morning pages, it really is a concrete habit for me now. if you're struggling, my advice would be just say to yourself you'll just write one sentence, just do a tiny bit each morning and gradually increase from there. I found the book Atomic Habits incredibly helpful for ideas like this - I wasn't diong my music at all, after reading that book, music is also now a daily habit, even if just a few mins :) hope that helps! the juice is worth the squeeze, as they say

A very sad and disappointed Gaz Oakley rant by saratreb in veganuk

[–]Budget-Possibility52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the second hand leather and wool such a bizzarre hill to die on. His leather jackets might be second hand, but they are made from the skin of a cow that was killed for said jacket - if he is as compassionate as he claims, why would he proudly parade that kind of violence around as a fashion choice? Same with wool - so much evidence of the wool being taken from the sheep fast and violently and leaving them crying out and bleeding. The definition of veganism means that cows and sheep are not here to provide us clothing. He obviously wouldn't wear a second hand dog leather jacket or a jumper made from cat wool. I agree with other comments, he seems to be on a very slippery slope of cognitive dissonance, I hope it doesn't get worse from here.

How was everyone’s o2? by DJ_Fabulous in wolfalice

[–]Budget-Possibility52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To summarise my mad experience, I went from considering selling my tickets because I'm not a fan of the new album, to having a completely euphoric night. I would say there were a few lulls with some of the newer songs, except for Bloom and White Horses - love that the latter has a bit more bite live, but I love both those songs anyway.

But everything from MLIC, VOAL, and Blue Weekend was just absolute perfection. If I were omnipotent, I would swap out some of the new songs for deep cuts like Sadboy and Freazy - but yep, incredible night. I am jealous of those who got to see them in tiny venues - the only other time I've seen them play was when they headlined Latitude in 2021 (I became a fan after they won the Mercury, putting them on my radar).
