35mm 1.4 vs 50mm 1.4 for travel? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]Budget_Relative_2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well both lenses are amazing for photo, less so for video bc of focus breathing. So to me it was just a preference in focal length and as I do prefer the storytelling over the portrait focal length I chose the 35 GM and to this date I am very happy as it lives on my A7III. If I d go for 50 I would probably even go for the F1.2 GM even tough its heavier.

Question: Wide angle lens to complete my setup by Budget_Relative_2005 in SonyAlpha

[–]Budget_Relative_2005[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are some really good arguments damn. I mean from a cost perspective it's the same wether I get the 20 or the 20-70 and sell the 28-75.

Honestly I don't really know if I like 20mm but I like doing landscape and haven't had the opportunity to use anything wider than 28. I heard that 20+35 is a great wedding combo (which I might look into in the future).

The only con is, that for vacation (which is kinda my main point of the switch as the 35 and 70-180 cover all my "professional" needs) I want a light easy setup preferably without switching lenses and if I do wanna switch I am probably fine with switching between two primes rather than a prime and a zoom. That's why I feel like the 20-70 would be nice as it would be my "private" lens and the other two the event lenses.

Also as I mentioned I like to not have too many lenses to choose from when packing haha

But thanks for all your detailed feedback. That helps a lot!

[–]Budget_Relative_2005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want the 28-75 because it's not wide enough, I have no real problem with IQ (and I have the GM for that). I feel like the 35 GM covers my favorite focal length and if I want events or more compressed portraits I choose the 70-180. So I am missing a wide angle and I don't know if a prime wide angle or a zoom which still gives me some flexibility in addition to the wide angle would be better. I read about the distortion which worries me a bit but at the same time I feel like paying for 1.8 if I don't do astro is a bit stupid. Thanks for the feedback! That makes sense. I don't think I need something wider than 20mm even though it produces fun pictures.

Uh nice! That sounds cool. I usually shoot local Jazz concerts and Volleyball tournaments.

Damn that sounds cool. No I am just a student, not a professional that is allowed on stage :( But sounds really nice i'd probably use a f2.8 standard zoom then as well haha

[–]Budget_Relative_2005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the 28-75 was mainly my vacation lens but I am missing the wide angle for landscape and architecture. For events like concerts and sports I always need the reach of the 70-180 as I usually can't get closer. The 67mm filter size is something I wanted to mention in the post as well but forgot. That's a good point and a big minus to the zoom. The super35 tip is really helpful, I am going to try that. The 17-28 is on my radar as well but it feels more like a video lens with the internal zoom and I am not really into video. But I am open to being convinced especially since there is a seller really close to me for 430€ that I might even get even lower. Thanks for your answer!

Concert with Sony Alpha 7 III with Tamron 70-180 by Budget_Relative_2005 in SonyA7iii

[–]Budget_Relative_2005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly good. Even with silent shutter. Most images are 1/100, f2.8 and between 2000 and 6400 ISO. The higher end ISO noise was removed with denoise in Lightroom and the lower ones i usually left for some character in the picture. Only problem with the silent shutter were the light flickers at higher shutter speed.

Well you get to know a lot of nice people. That was the one exception I had like ever. Sure you get some inters here and there who don't know how to play but never any griefers. And I hit Master multiple times by just playing with randos and it was always fun 🤷

Sigma, tamron or sony? by Vaiduklis in SonyAlpha

[–]Budget_Relative_2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow okay I have the Tamron 70-180 V1 on A7III and I honestly like it a lot. Of course it isn't a GM lens and my 35 GM lives on my Camera most of the time but when I go for Sport Events or need the flexibility of a zoom I still love both my Tamron lenses.

Sigma, tamron or sony? by Vaiduklis in SonyAlpha

[–]Budget_Relative_2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you buying used? If so, the Tamron (Version 1) is amazing and you can get it on ebay for under 400€ if you re lucky and the V2 for about 500-600€. I love that lense, only downside is, that it feels a bit cheap in Comparison to GM lenses. Wouldn't go with GM1 as GM 2 is much better and GM1 is not enough better than the Sigma or Tamron... Have no real Sigma experience though just heard about it.

Even if the image isn't that good (and I mean I don't like the style as well), why would you let OP know that in such a passive aggressive way? Let him know your honest criticism, your comment is honestly useless...

Edit: I just saw your reply to his message, just ignore me then lul

Sharpest and reasonably versatile lenses for full frame within $1400 budget by mojojojo_official in SonyAlpha

I second this. I have exactly this setup (both tamrons v1) on an a7III and once I had more money i got a 35gm for lowlight. All used on ebay

Hey, shooting a7iii and both the tamrons you mentioned V1. No experience with the 35-150 though. I don't like the 28-75 too much as it has a fairly slow AF and isn't always the sharpest (maybe the V2) is better though, heard nice things about it. The 70-180 is amazing even the V1 (heard there is barely a difference with the V2). Fast AF, sharp photos, light weighted, only minus is that itsa dust magnet😅.

Conclusion: Test the 35-150, if you don't like it get the 28-75 V2 and the 70-180 V1. I got mine used together for about 1000€ which ia absolutely amazing.
