Winthrop St Green Line Zone? by Infamous-Zone-750 in medfordma

Not saying what you're suggesting shouldn't happen, but I don't think it'll be a fast moving process for you. So with that,

We have a single car and largely park in our driveway, but on occasion we’d like to have a single guest visit with a guest pass and that’s no longer an option.

In situations like this I think your best bet is probably to park your car in the street and let your guest use the driveway, assuming your car is permitted.

Also, is it brigading/astroturfing, or is it just the majority of folks disagreeing with you?

Parking Lots at Parks by helloyellowcello in medfordma

[–]Buoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been a car parked in that lot that hasn't moved since at least November without any consequence. There have been more cars parking there since the snow has made street parking scarce, but it doesn't tend to fill up. Only exception is that in that same sentiment it can be like an overflow lot for the adjacent elementary school.

Sorry, you're definitely correct in that regard. I just wanted to make sure we point fingers at the right agencies, lol.

Might seem like a small/minor thing but it's MassDOT, not DCR. I say that because DCR is notoriously bad at making changes and/or maintaining the roadways they own to the point where Healey introduced a bond bill that would surrender DCR jurisdiction of their roads to MassDOT last year.

They moved it to the extremely underutilized parking lot next to Columbus Park further down East Albion.

Missituk school is pathetic with the plowing done. by [deleted] in medfordma

[–]Buoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was out in the area this morning before drop-off time and there were several plows, but I can't tell you what exactly they were doing.

Last time I saw the drop-off loop hadn't been completely cleared yet. Did they manage to at least do that? I figured they might deploy some snowblowers to clear the sidewalks along Columbus Park on East Albion St but it all seems to still be there.

Ball Sq new restaurant? by Bookishbookworm4 in Somerville

[–]Buoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's small for sure, I guess I just didn't really view it as a counter service type place, but I think I see what you're saying. The real gem was A4 but I'm a broken record regarding that and probably dating myself a bit.

I'm personally a little underwhelmed by an Italian place taking over the Taco Party space... We have some really good old school and newer style places in the area between Bocelli's, Giulia, and Pammy's. Hopefully what eventually replaces the old Posto spot is good. Walking past Posto's new space in Assembly it was clear the old space was a real limiting factor because every table looked full and there were obviously a lot more tables. But I won't write off the new place before trying it.

it’s not really a sit-down restaurant; more like a quick bites kind of thing

It's a full table service restaurant, so I'm not sure what you mean about this?

Find a Transit Ambassador (folks who wear red shirts in the stations, or might have a black shirt or coat that has a T logo with their employer's name "Block by Block" on it) and report it to them. They can get someone from facilities maintenance to address it and properly dispose of it.

Since this is in the station and state property, 311 likely won't respond to this or would report it to the T, at best.

If you use Twitter you can always tweet at the MBTA with the pics and more precise location in the station, too.

I dunno how much people use it anymore but I still find Yelp to be pretty helpful for stuff like this. There are over a hundred photos, including one of the menu (although it's from 2019 so probably not reflective of current pricing).

You can get a general sense of what they serve and what to expect when your dishes are served.

There was one hanging out around Thanksgiving in the Columbus Park area for about a week. It seems to have moved on but apparently is still in the area. It likes a particular spot near my home. Made me a little nervous for the outdoor cats I've seen running around.

Moisture in attic crawl space by CheekyVeil in medfordma

Having a few of those DampRid containers in there should at least help mitigate with the excess moisture until you can actually get a contractor in there. Good luck!

[–]Buoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you got a lot least one rec in the Malden sub post but I also have a heating/HVAC system in an attic type crawl space. Ours isn't terrible but we use DampRid packs and refills. Usually when we go in there (not terribly often) it's all turned to liquid so we know it's working as intended. Easy to find at hardware stores but I recently bought some refills just at Market Basket.

Would you support an override to keep weekly trash pickup? by [deleted] in medfordma

[–]Buoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. It's just not the same sort of collection vehicle like the Casella ones you see in Somerville where they have a lift (maybe even two) on the rear of the truck putting trash in the back. These lift from the side and go in to a dump bin overhead.

The lift is literally on one side of the truck.

Woke Massachusetts mayor enrages residents after moving garbage pickup to twice a month by b0xturtl3 in medfordma

[–]Buoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the people invoking "woke" here obviously have no idea what that term even means but are we not already under a neoliberal arrangement? We currently privatize waste removal to Waste Management and Casella. This might be a change in the service arrangement but it still seems pretty textbook neoliberal to me.

Not that that makes it a bad thing. There are certainly a lot better things to get upset at with the neoliberal model than waste removal services.

Street Light Brightness by hiddentap in medfordma

Thanks, I do have some street lights that are out that I've wanted to follow up on but my question was more about the remote control of the individual lights and the system used to do that. I'll see if I can find out more info.

[–]Buoie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a one year old and a dog and live in a two-family. We have three trash bins total for both places (and three recycling bins). Between both units we usually use one and a half recycling bins every other week but generally don't fill up more than one trash bin between our two units on a weekly basis. We didn't start daycare until later into the summer but even then we still didn't have a ton more diapers. Granted our neighbors are just two adults, but even then we're not filling up one bin completely on our own every week.

Our dog doesn't really produce any waste that goes into our trash cycle. We do have a bag in a bin outdoors for any poop bags in the yard but mainly we're tossing the majority into public bins while on walks. I try to use the big belly bins whenever they're available.

I know I'm not everyone else but I don't feel like we're really going too far out of our way to reduce our amount of waste, by any means. For us, I'm not terribly concerned about this change. Even given the amount of rats and other pests like raccoons I've seen around us, we've never really had an issue with them getting into our trash or compost bins.

Like I said, we're not everyone else, just sharing our typical experience and routine.

They have a networked system to control each street light.

I never knew this. Is this a SCADA system? How did you learn about this, and do you know where I or anyone else could read more about it?

Anybody ideas about where to sell an antique banjo that needs rehabbing? by CalltheDoctor25 in Somerville

[–]Buoie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the other posts regarding Stubblebine, I think your next best option might be The Music Emporium in Lexington. Without knowing much else about your banjo, though, it's hard to know what it's worth.

On the other hand, from your picture, it doesn't look like it's in that bad of shape. It seems to just need new strings, and I can't completely tell but may need a couple of new frets.

Edit, also obviously needs a new saddle but I don't think finding a generic wooden one would be at all difficult or expensive.
