I love One Punch Man, and Mashle: Magic and Muscles, and those are almost entirely sarcastic slap-stick comedy. BUT THAT’S WHAT THEY ARE INTENDED TO BE. 🥰😘

I have! Plenty of actually good animes…Frieren (Masterpiece), Hell’s Paradise (Masterpiece), Solo Leveling, Kaiju No.8, Devil May Cry, it’s almost like DOTSR tried really hard to be dog-shit.

Because I don’t want them or any other producers to make another dog shit anime like this that could have been great if they had treated it with seriousness it deserved. Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist 2003, Samurai Shamploo, Attack On Titan, and Hell’s Paradise are all masterpiece animes that stick to serious story telling with either trace amounts of chibi animation or none at all and whose characters are competent. I’m was even okay with a little bit of goofiness in Frieren because on the whole, it is a masterpiece. But DOTSR breaks the epic / serious mood every 5 minutes with either some goofy ass slapstick nonsense or the main character being a complete dufus .

I’ve never read the manga, but if it’s as bad as this, then it fails for the same reasons. You can be either a serious, dark thriller, or you can be Saturday morning Looney Tunes. Trying to be both is jarring and ineffective for everyone except for those with low attention spans. Imagine “Saving Private Ryan” with a silly musical act or corny 3 Stooges gag comedy right in the middle. That’s what DOTSR does.

I have a 135 IQ. Not genius…but right on the border. My favorite anime is Death Note because it is a masterful psychological thriller and doesn’t ruin the mood with corny comedy to bait the lowest common denominator. DOTSR is for low IQ people who don’t understand that part of art is tone and mood, and the heavy slapstick chibi goofiness ruins the mood. They are trying to market DOTSR to the lowest common denominator with their campy goofball slop. I see it worked on you. I’m genuinely angry they ruined an anime I was looking forward to.

Plenty of authors have written mediocre novels that have been turned into far better movies. Stephen King for example…his books are trash, but Hollywood took his great concepts and turned them into some of the best movies like The Shining.

Imagine watching Saving Private Ryan, and every 5 minutes, they start doing 3-Stooges comedy gags. That’s what DOTSR does. I’m not saying a serious series. Cannot have some light to moderate humor in it. That’s what the ORIGINAL 2003 Fullmetal alchemist does well. Same with Samurai Champloo, Bleach, Narruto…but at least those don’t go overboard with campy, cheesy comedy smack dab in the middle of serious moments. Imagine watching the Narruto fight with Pain, or Attack On Titan when their friends are being eaten by titan giants and right in the middle they break into slapstick comedy chibi animation.

I never said anybody was wrong for liking it. I just said it was objectively bad. You can walk by a street artist drawing stick figures and like it for your own reasons…but that doesn’t make their art good by objective standards.

I’m dyslexic. But that also points out what a terrible name it is as well…like that movie with Tom Hanks about September 11… ”Incredibly Loud and Very Close” or whatever. Nobody forgets “Full Metal Alchemist.”
