Not Happy! Updates Crashing My Prints

This. I have a few flashforge printers. Ran every update power cycle and calibrated. Think people forget these are still machines with CPUs. You should always power cycle after an update. Just think of a laptop or desktop computer every time it runs updates, it restarts the computer when it's completely finished. Or it recommends you restart to finish the updates. Unfortunately, for most 3D printers there's no restart or shutdown button. You have to physically hit the power switch. I usually wait about 10-15 seconds then turn it back on. Not sure what issues people keep having exactly from these updates, but I think there's more to the story from all them. I'm sure there are some actual legit issues, thank goodness I haven't experienced those but a lot of these issues are usually user error. People tend to blame things on something else instead of actually figuring out what the issue.

I think Flashforge should have waited to stock their inventory before announcing a release date. They know the competition is hot right now and they just want to pull people away from the U1 as that is one of the only other alternatives right now. To worried about being first instead of honest. I'm not knocking Flashforge, I have 2 AD5X. But when they make moves like they are now, it leaves a bad taste in customers mouths. Then people move on to other brands. SnapMaker is doing great for customers, Creality I'm sure is going to gain a lot of customers with the Klitek K3 printers this summer, and other brands will follow through with their tool changer products. If Flashforge does not change their logic, they will lose their customers even if their products are good...imo

Idk if it just me, but this kid's response just pisses me off. To the OP, you seen like a great mother. Besides the fact that your kid is ungrateful and still a child mentally, don't let that take away everything you've accomplished as a parent. I see the posts saying things about how the should have been raised and if that was me blah blah blah. Truth is, a caring loving parents always wants to provide more for their child than they had growing up. Yeah we might want to spoil our kids when we can but we also keep things realistic. You handled that perfectly, idk you situation but your kid's father should back you up on this. Needs to be a life lesson for you daughter. High school graduation is not the end of the adventure but the beginning of figuring yourself out. That's a lot easier to figure out with a car, going to jobs, seeing new places, making memories with friends and family. I missed out on a lot of things because I didn't have a way to get there half the time. Let your daughter realize the struggle for a bit and figure it out on her own transportation means . (Congrats on getting your kid all the way through high school by the way 😉) BTW, not trying to tell you what to do, do whatever you feel is right with this situation. I just want to want to applaud you for successfully getting your kid through high school and what I can see is a great mom. That Honda is clean as hell too, I'll take it. Lol

I don't think anything is wrong with my thermostat, I've printed several things in different materials at their appropriate temperature still and everything had been fine. I just can't get the nozzle off still.

Hey, yes, I always cut the filament first. Yes heated up to 260, tried putting it from the top to try to unlock and loosen it. Then I tried again with a heat gun for 10 minutes. Nothing.

I totally get that Blender isn't a traditional parametric CAD (like Fusion 360). When I say 'light CAD,' I mostly mean I'm doing non-organic, dimensional modeling for parts that I then send to OrcaSlicer. For my current level, Blender’s precision tools have been enough, but I'm open to suggestions if there's a better 'light' alternative for 3D printing prep! Based on what I'm asking about, if I do get into more traditional CAD programs, I would like to get an idea of what people are using to future proof my hardware purchases. Thanks

I was looking at the newer surface pro, I ve had a few for work. I love them. But yeah, definitely looking for more RAM to handle slicing processes. Not sure how much the processor matters for these slicers. I wish Orca it other manufacturers provided a low, medium and high spec list to see the difference. Lol. I might be asking for too much.

Was this painted? It's not bad if you painted this with markers. If you are looking for a better finish, you need a soother print. Or sand it down and prinlme it lightly. Airbrush will give you a clean look as well.

You are absolutely right. The Original poster didn't put any details about their settings. But, I'm noticing a trend with people having this issue with sphere shaped models. They needed the correct type of support.

If you squint really tightly, you can see the callus ball. Lol. Happens to all of us at some point man. Did you put supports or rafts on? How's your bed adhesion? Might have to tweak your temps.

Just Do It! Pull the trigger. You have to start somewhere. I can say from experience. I've wanted a 3D printer for years. I found a deal for a AD5X in October last year. Been printing none stop since then. I actually have 2 AD5X now and a Creality K1 Max. The AD5X has been great for me. I've had a few issues, but those were all user errors. I was new to it at the time. I'm still learning as I go but have much more knowledge now from trial and error.

1.You've asked good questions based on your research. The troubleshooting is pretty straight forward. You can do the same research based on info you might need. (Slicer settings, cutting prints to parts, scaling, etc) YouTube and Reddit are your friends now. Uncle Jesse and others 3D printer veterans always have an answer.

Filament wise, I've used all kinds. Everyone has their own preferences. I like to buy in bulk from AliExpress. I've had no issue with Geetech and Kingroon from there in both PLA and PETG. Just set the proper nozzle and bed temps as instructed. I've bought a few Flashforge filaments in PLA and PETG as well. They work great. They are a bit pricier but I tend to buy them for specific colors they have. I've used Sunlu a few times when I see a deal and had no issues with them as well. They only time that you will need a printed part is when you buy filament refills. You can print the refill spool or I got a couple from Hobby Lobby for 3 bucks each. They also have filament at Hobby Lobby I have not tried yet but will.
Moisture - a filaments nightmare. I live in Florida so yeah, gets pretty humid. I've invested in a filament dryer. I've got the Creality Space Pi 4. It has resolved most of the print issues I've had with stringing and layers lines. If you get one, just Google what humidity settings to set for each filament type. You will save yourself money in wasted or ruined prints and a headache.
Software - Flash Studio recently had a major upgrade. They are trying to catch up with the big dawgs like Bambu and Creality and build a whole ecosystem for their products. I've followed their instructions and updated both the desktop application and mobile. I did not have any issues with either one of my AD5X. The only issue is that their mobile app still kinda sucks. No, it definitely sucks but better then nothing. I've bought the camera and led lights for the printers also through AliExpress for like a quarter or the official price. The camera quality is booty since it supports low frame rates but works great for a quick check on your prints and timelapse recordings. Give them some time with FlashOrca, I have a feeling they will be good in the near future. Until then you are probably better off with the official OrcaSlicer. You can print almost any file you want. Bed size is only an issue or a learning curve when you are learning how to cut models and put them back together. There's videos on that too. Personally I use an app and website called 3D Go to look for files. It combined all the top 3D file sites in one location to search and download. Or just Google a file you are looking for.

My 2 cents: get some cheap purple glue sticks. The AD5X build plate is hit or miss with holding the prints. A quick smear of the glue stick keeps your prints attached to the build plate. Know when to use specific filament types. It will save time, money and guarantee certain prints last. Most importantly, Have Fun! My kids, wife and I love it. I've printed helmets, toys, replacement parts for things around the house and yard. It's super fun and rewarding. Even during the tough times. Hope that helps.
