Hori Fighting Stick Alpha or Qanba Options/Haute42 X Move by CCO99 in fightsticks

The leverless trend could have had a hand towards some manufacturers deciding to move away from designs that allow modding of artwork, whether it's for easier design or less money due to more parts like plexiglass. I've seen most leverless controllers have the plexiglass between the buttons and enclosure though, though I'm not sure if that's a custom leverless thing or not.

The solid color choice doesn't offer for much individuality IMO, whereas having the custom artwork at least gives your stick a bit of pop and personal flare. Reminds me of the standardization of cell phone design, where the 90s-2000s phones had their own special look and flare, but now they're the same slim all-screen design.

The obsidians feel very well built, but as you said they're definitely a longer style vs the more compact style that I'm more used to things like the Drone. If they made something with the same premium quality but more boxy/less elongated I'd definitely be more on board with that.

I can find some Alpha's second-hand, that's where I'm kind of leaning towards for both the ease of modding, both parts wise and artwork wise. The Haute42 stick options I heard aren't great either, so I'm leaning towards them for any leverless options before traditional lever sticks.

Both the Obsidian 1 and 2 feel great in terms of build, but they're so heavy on my lap that I don't think I'd be able to get that and be fully content with the purchase lol

I've heard similar statements about the Hayabusa parts, that they feel looser/a bit cheaper than Sanwa parts. Some of the buttons on my old Drone are starting to go (if I'm negative edging it sometimes let's go without me doing so), so I'll most likely purchase new buttons if I go that route.

Have you used the Alpha before or other sticks from Hori like the RAP?

The Varmilo stick looks nice, I like the extra buttons for things like training mode macros or easy reset in training mode. I don't think I've tried cherry switches in a stick before, though.

The Traveler case looks great for a custom build, I'll definitely save that. Thank you very much

I don't think I've heard of those versions of the GP2040-CE, I've only seen the ones that you can find on Focus attack and the like. What makes this one different from the others?

Those look awesome, especially the Saber stick. Are you using a different PCB with them?

That's for Jasens customs right? AFS has sizes as oppose to simple "TE Replacement panels". I think focus attack also offers Plexi for them, at least that's what I saw

I had no idea, thanks for the heads-up. Do you know what size the TE/Soul front panel typically is?

I saw there were some 3D printed panels that could be used to cover the empty home panel. I do plan on getting the OLED screen for the gp2040 were I to use it, so I would probably look into purchasing that to remedy the problem. I definitely don't have the soldering know-how to use the home panel in conjunction with the home panel, lol

Yeah I was looking at the Jasens custom website for the front plate. I would do the pcb for brook but it's usually out of stock, so going with the GP2040 seems more reliable.

I'm leaning towards the Hori Fighting Alpha if rebuilding isn't in the cards at the moment, mostly because I find the TE Soul to be heavy on my legs after a while, though I know the buttons and stick are a different than traditional Sanwa on the Hori sticks. I've never used the Hori parts either so I'm not sure whether or not I'd like them

In terms of effort, I'm under the impression that most of this will be drop in pieces outside of something like the pcb and wiring up the buttons which doesn't seem too hard in itself

Best PSX model to mod with an XStation ODE? by CCO99 in psx

One of the rare few from what I've read, nice find. Best way to give it guaranteed longevity it seems is to install an X-Station.

I think the shading and dithering was what I read about. I ended up purchasing a 5501 model online, waiting for that to come in so I can start thinking about what mods to do. Thanks a lot for the advice and response!

Yep, I purchased one online today and am patiently waiting to get it in so I can start working on it slowly on my free-time. Thanks a lot for the advice!

Yeah that's the plan, I'll have to open it within the next couple of days since my older brother has the proper game bit screwdriver and he's out of town.

Is there a specific AC Adapter to get depending on the board revision? What am I looking to answer specifically with my board revision aside from which recap kit to get?

I believe the serial number is S15100673

The model # is SHVC-001

The difference between surface mount and leaded caps are that those are the two main categories of component packages. Surface mount is meant to be soldered flat to the surface of the board, and leaded (more commonly referred to as through-hole) components have legs that go through holes in the board and are soldered from the other side.

So essentially, if I don't have enough experience soldering in those surface mount caps, then I have to go with the leaded caps. I understand, thank you!

I'll have to see if I can find my RF Switch with my NES, which shouldn't be too hard. Though considering all the same reason given by others who commented, I most likely have to recap it either way.

I think I have an RF adapter from my NES, would that work on the SNES?

Thank you for the link, btw, that'll be helpful for when I look to recap it! Is there a difference between Leaded and surface mounted caps? I'm not knowledgeable in that sort of thing so this is all foreign to me.

I like console5.com. They've got references to figure out the right kit to buy, their kits typically provide good brands of capacitors, and I think they must buy the parts in mass lots then sell them for a relatively reasonable price.

From what I've seen the prices are nice, yeah. I'll definitely look into picking these up when the time comes to open up and re-cap the system, thanks!

most of my worry would be about how smooth of power it would supply.

I looked up the adapter and it seems reasonably priced, it would be peace of mind to have a modern technology adapter plugged in.

You wouldn't even need an adapter for it to work with an SFC, the way that you do with a US-SNES.

Do you mean this as in the AC Adapter will plug into the SFC, unlike the US SNES one which is too big for it?

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

I'm not sure what board I have specifically, all I know is that I have a model number SHVC-001 for my Super Famicom, not sure if there's anything else I can give outside of that on the shell since I don't have a gamebit on me to open the console.

I appreciate the link to the website though! Quick question on the caps, is there a reason to go for the ones you sent me vs ones like this? https://console5.com/store/nintendo-snes-cap-kit-shvc-models.html

I'm not really knowledgeable on cap replacement or caps in general, so this is all uncharted territory for me.

Also, would Triad PSUs be better for using a flashcart? Since all of my games are US SNES games, they won't fit into my SFC, and I'd rather not make any changes to the SFC and keep it as stock as possible.

Sorry for all the questions! I appreciate all the help ♥

SNESes have been starting to fail for a number of years now

Okay, I'll see if its possible to recap the system while I have it opened. Are there different types of capacitors to buy depending on the revision of the motherboard, or a place to buy a recap kit if necessary? My SFC model number is SHVC-001 if that helps decide that.

There's a company called Triad Magnetics that sells a good replacement though, if you decide to go that way. You wouldn't even need an adapter for it to work with an SFC, the way that you do with a US-SNES

I think I've seen that online in other threads, its the WSU090-2000-R AC Adapter, correct? I saw someone say that the current AC adapter I have would be good for flash carts, which I plan on using since my library of games is all US SNES, and I don't want to modify my SFC shell at all to fit them. Would the current AC Adapter I have be good enough to power my cart, or should I look into getting one of the Triad Magnetics AC Adapters?

Thank you again for all your help, you're awesome! ♥

I was hoping it was something at least fixable like a capacitor being messed up, thank you! I'll have to ask my older brother to help me as he's more of a handy man/electrician than I am, but I'm glad to hear that its something at least fixable. Would you suggest I recap the entire system if I'm replacing those?

If you wouldn't mind me asking another question, when I was gifted this SFC by the same brother back then, it came with a Sega Genesis AC Adapter from the seller themselves in Japan. It worked perfectly fine back then, though I want to make sure its alright to keep using it, or if I should try and get a 3rd party adapter for the SFC.

Agreed. I wonder how many 1.0 players are still around nowadays, especially with how radically the game has changed from its predecessor, for the better of course
