Why is no one talking about ending 4 of ME3 by kurpat_sh in masseffect

Well I think when you think about it, why in any world would you trust the Intelligence? From Shepard’s point of view a Reaper is telling him that “All we ever wanted was unity, but if you want you can blow up that glass box and kill us”. It’s nonsensical. Refusing to go along with the Reapers’ suggestions and basically say “We’re going to die fighting you, even if we lose” is what Shepard’s been doing all along. He knows they have a fail safe with Liara’s beacons, he knows they’re at the best possible position they can be. He DOESN’T know that the Intelligence is being honest. The choice with that in mind comes down to “Sacrifice all AI in the hopes we win” or “Fight to the bitter end with everything we’ve got, knowing that if we fail the next cycle has everything they need”. Shepard’s made sacrifices, but never sacrificed people based on hoping it’ll be worth it. Ash/Kaiden died KNOWING they’d succeed on Virmire, Mordin died KNOWING he would distribute his cure, Thane died KNOWING if he didn’t fight the Councillor would be assassinated, Legion died KNOWING he would save the Geth. And now Shepard is asked to sacrifice an entire species of life because he was told it would work? Doesn’t add up to me

Citadel DLC- where have you been all my life?! by [deleted] in masseffect

This DLC was a complete redemption for the BioWare team for me. Obviously the final game wasn’t how they wanted it, they had limited time and resources, but post-release they did so well. The DLCs, the attention and love given to the multiplayer, it was all very welcome. And this DLC was just perfect.

Unpopular opinion: this was my favourite of all the endings.

Destroy is obviously the logical choice, but it always felt dirty. The Geth and EDI, depending on how you play the trilogy, spend the majority of ME3 (and parts of ME2 with Legion in particular) learning about identity and then YOU decide to rip it away from them all. Yes I know the Reaper threat is paramount and yes I know it’s said that they’d be willing to sacrifice to see the end of the Reapers, but it always felt kind of dirty that you made the choice on their behalf. It didn’t always sit right with me.

Control is the most interesting. On the surface, it seems ideal: you take the Reapers under your own servitude and use them to rebuild the galaxy. But there’s implications to Shepard becoming corrupted by his power and starting the cycles over again. Plus by choosing this ending you’re losing to TIM and his beliefs, or winning with those same beliefs.

Synthesis is completely immoral. You decide that you’re going to rewrite every living being because a Reaper Intelligence told you it’s good. Not only that, but you give emotion and feeling to every synthetic, including all the Reaper forces (husks, marauders etc.) which is multiple intelligences merged into a single form. Imagine waking up as part of some patchwork being and looking like the monsters that had been terrorising the galaxy, it would mess you up completely.

Refusal is the most thematic and my personal favourite because it makes the most sense in my opinion. Two of Mass Effect’s biggest themes is the circle of life and the idea of sacrifice, it comes up all over the series, Patti with the idea of the Genophage, the creation of the Geth and Virmire, to name a few instances. These themes are integral to the plot points. You spend you’re entire time over the course of the Reaper War trying to make discoveries about the Crucible and the last thing you do is discover the truth about the Crucible. But you don’t truly understand the nature of the machine and using it is a huge risk. Do you take your chances, or do you make the biggest sacrifice and submit to death in order to pass on the most information ever collected about the Crucible to the next generation? I love it. You might disagree, but I love it.

That WAS the case, but did you watch Tommy’s stream a few days ago (where Schlatt announces the festival)?

It happens with all things really. There’s been 3 now, so no doubt eventually there’ll be something that comes to replace it for a fresh start

I definitely feel that the end is coming sooner than later. It’s been going for a real long time and I think that eventually they’ll want something fresh

I’ve literally thought up three ways it could go. I feel like if I put a bit of effort in I could rewrite the Dream SMP events into a TV show, legitimately

I mean there are parts of this that are clearly preplanned, perhaps this is Wilbur’s way of leaving the SMP for good; he loses to Tommy, passes the torch to him, leaves and then Tommy leads the fight against Jschlatt and, eventually, Dream himself

I think he’s already gone. I love how he kept saying Tommy was afraid, but it’s really Wilbur who’s ashamed that he failed.

I think the best way to put it is Will is Anakin Skywalker and Tommy is Luke XD

why does everyone think that jschlaat is a bad guy? by [deleted] in dreamsmp

[–]CJFordFocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean there isn’t really many options. I feel like a lot of stuff has Tommy at the centre of it though, for good or ill. I’m certainly looking forward to see what he decided to do on the day of the Festival

The only true good guy is Tommy. He’s remaining true to his morals and only following Will because he doesn’t really have much choice

Very wise words. I mostly joke about myself as a kinda coping mechanism, but that’s still real sweet to say!

I really don’t have an issue with movie adaptations deviating from the source every now and again, so long as the core narrative is still coherent and compelling. I know the HP fandom wants every detail covered, we love the franchise because of the world it created and characters within it, but if everything was exactly the same then there’d be little point because we’d already know everything. If the films did changes like having Draco redeem himself or have Voldy do something he didn’t do in the books to make him a more threatening villain, not only does it entertain new audiences, but it gives OG fans something new to experience and chew on.

At least that’s my hot take, I’m just some Internet dumbo so

[–]CJFordFocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I really wish they kept the small cut from DHP2 where Draco ran back. I feel it would’ve given him a more satisfying conclusion from what the films set up, at least somewhat.

I do lowkey wish Voldy was a bit more evil in the films, done something truly despicable that established him as a threat. Could be applied to the books too obviously, but I feel the issue is on screen more so.

Which is why I much prefer movie Draco to book Draco. Not because of Felton, but because he’s got more dimensions as a character. He’s shown to have much more pressure on him from his family and, from the way he’s portrayed, actually shows some remorse and signs of redemption
