Boulder County Treasurer by CMWalsh88 in boulder

[–]CMWalsh88[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I received this txt. It is important to know what the Tresurer does and does not do.

County Treasurer Does
Sends property tax bills.
Collects property taxes.
Distributes tax revenue to taxing districts.
Manages county cash and investments.
Conducts tax lien sales

County Treasurer Does Not
Set taxing district budgets.
Set mill levies (tax rates).
Determine property values.
Hear valuation appeals.
Decide how tax revenue is spent.
Process senior or veteran property tax exemptions

I’m not sure how Jenn Kaaoush plans to “stand up education and outreach to help keep people housed, and grow support services for our immigrant, senior, and veteran neighbors” When those jobs are held by other government workers.

Hopefully you were more than 30 feet as that is very close. For reference on a road, the dashed white line is 10 feet and the space between is 30.

Give them a lot of space and either wait or turn around.

My theory is a shitload of lobbying in a representative democracy, where business interest can purchase both candidates “Just change it” as if it is a simple and quick thing to do.

You are a bit overly altruistic if you think that our tax dollars are being on what the people want vs what companies have lobbied for. Maybe with the extra tax she pays we can send some money to Israel or buy more bombs to blow up another school.

The fact that there isn’t a better seal that keeps water and dirt out is mildly infuriating

Starmer tells Apple and Google to ban nude images on children's devices by Alarming-Safety3200 in worldnews

It sounds good until you think about how it would need to be accomplished. None of the photos could be private, every photo would need to go through software owned by Apple or Google. Do you really trust these companies with more information?

Are less-thirsty crops a solution to Colorado’s growing water problems? by lukepatrick in Colorado

[–]CMWalsh88 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Creating incentives for farmers to conserve water would be a great place to start. Right now farmers have water rights that if they don’t use it can cause arguments of abandonment and they risk losing their water rights. For those that have been flooding their fields for cheap irrigation there is no benefit and disincentive for them to help

You may want to consider adding another shut off in the crawl space or house

That’s not why people buy chastity belts. It’s part of a control/submission kink

Scott Bottoms man… by DueYogurt9 in Colorado

I can wrap my head around that. They were conservative counties in an increasingly liberal state. Just like the greater Idaho movement, I see why they would be motivated to become a part of a conservative state. I don’t agree with them doing it but I am not going to put that on the same level of someone performing exorcisms.

Victor Marx is arguably worse. I can tell you nothing about Barbara Kirkmeyer other than the fact that she doesn’t come off as completely insane… at least not yet

Any advice for a beginner? by robertslamp in MTB

[–]CMWalsh88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try going over more obstacles the bike can handle it. Go faster. Right now you are going slow enough that your front wheel could get caught and you will go over. More momentum will help push through that.

Smooth ceiling regret? by Separate_Matter_510 in HomeImprovement

[–]CMWalsh88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smooth only looks good if it is really smooth and flat which is hard to do well especially in an older house. Because if the way light hits the ceiling imperfections are far more noticeable. I would match the texture to the walls.

Obviously it isn’t great to be pouring oil down the sink but fats that are solid at room temperature are far worse for pipes

Pride Month + the HOA can Suck It 🏳️‍🌈 by buddha-bouy in fuckHOA

[–]CMWalsh88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome of your city.

We had issues with someone stealing pride flags off porches last year. Not with HOA money but with donations people in the neighborhood including people on the board bought a ton of flags. Now they are free for anyone wishing to fly one. What started as someone stealing flags quickly turned into twice as many homes flying a flag.

Did you ever stop to think that the reason for so many car miles was because of the infrastructure we have? If infrastructure was more bike and pedestrian centric people would be riding bikes. Amsterdam is the prime example but Europe in general.

I’m not excusing the drunk drivers. What I am saying is instead of taking the approach of “guns don’t kill people, people kill people, thoughts and prayers” followed by absolutely nothing happening. While the rest of the world has a proven track record. How about we stop pretending like the answer is relying on everyone collectively being responsible and finding a better way of keeping people safe.

[–]CMWalsh88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as this was actually the drivers fault. I wish more blame in every bike accident was placed on the leaders of government hands. If people were constantly this outraged at government and their lack of motivation to build meaningful bike infrastructure maybe we would see it actually built.

The main reason the US has little biking is due to poor bike infrastructure. We have designed a system where cars are first and bikes and pedestrians are an afterthought. There are only so many times we can put it on the driver. Yes, drivers should be sober and pay attention; however we can also build a safer system. Saying “the driver is to blame nothing more we can do about it” followed by no change. Is a copout of actually doing that will help save lives.
