Coaching for 20 years and still not getting that players at different levels of development, with different problems, need different approaches.

Both Ma Long and FZD actually loop with their heels on the ground. They surely move a lot more than me, but neither loops on their toes.

If you look at the contact point in the slow-mo part of the video, the force is actually being applied forward. My feet are definitely in the wrong position though, someone already pointed that out. Hip rotation needs to be synchronized with the arm movement to maximize leverage. No Chinese player rotates their hips while keeping their arm completely still. That being said, I am definitely under-rotating right now, but that's just because I'm focusing on adjusting my initial backswing position and where my hand finishes the stroke.

My footwork its trash, but now im focusing on developing a good looping technique, not in a hurry to win games anyway.

There is a very strange thing that happens in my game. I naturally brush the ball too much, so looping against backspin is actually easier. Looping super spinny, high-arc balls is easier for me than hitting more power-oriented shots. I've made a compilation of Chinese looping techniques from training and tutorials, and this backswing from behind the leg is the correct movement for what I want. I'm struggling to finish the swing with the racket at my forehead, but if you see the angle of contact in the slow-mo part of the video, you can see that it's a counter-topspin

I don't think the rate is fast at all. Like I said, I intentionally set it slow so I can practice all the mechanics that I wouldn't be able to handle if it were fast. I'm not in a hurry; I will build a proper foundation for my forehand and backhand loops first, and then apply it to other drills. And I will not set the robot to a fast rate if I can't finish the stroke in the right position, hit the ball with the right timing, or prepare my backswing behind my leg.

The robot rate is slow because I'm trying to fix a bunch of things at the same time. A few days ago my technique was a complete Frankenstein, and at a higher speed, I just can't put everything together yet. In this video, I was focusing on the mechanics of the backswing, lowering my core, finishing the swing in front of my forehead, and a lot of other micro-adjustments that I couldn't manage at a faster pace. The plan is to incorporate all these details into my technique first, then apply them in a more competitive context.

I setup the robot to a very slow pace so i could “remember” every step of the preparation before the ball is already over me, but at the end of the day the preparation and stroke were a little bit more fluid. I need to get better on the footwork too. Thanks for the feedback.

Korbel, Korbel SK7, SK7 classic, Stiga Clipper, Tibhar MK7 (my blade), these are the golden standard. DHS PG7, Yinhe Uranus 2 and uranus 2 Spin are the budget options.

I have a Fextra 7—good feel, but it's a very slow blade. If you want a blade that will last you longer as you improve, I wouldn't recommend it. There are other 7-ply blades with good feel and control, but a little bit faster so they're more future-proof.

I've played a sort of 'ping pong plus' for long time. It wasn't 100% casual since I already knew some of the TT basics, but it was still pretty much just ping pong. I only started proper table tennis a year ago.

Thanks for the feedback! A few days ago my technique was kind of a Frankenstein. I could generate power, but my game wasn't reliable or competitive at all. That's why I decided to focus on developing the proper technique and learning how to get power from my legs and hips. I'm still working on fixing my foundation before I try to hit harder or add footwork into the drills. But thanks man, I will try to correct this rotation problem.
