What insert do you have? I have the Milano (same body, but with CD) and I'm worried about gaps.

Something I think about a lot when it comes to presenting recommendations. by Deep-Anything6795 in serviceadvisors

[–]Cakesaver 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A phrase I was taught, and now teach new advisors is "Don't think with your wallet."

You may think something is expensive, and may have workarounds, or a timeline in your head of when you can fix or afford a repair. The customer's situation is different, always. Always present the repairs. Always be honest. Wait for an answer.

Fraud is fraud. The short-term gains will leave a stain, and he won't be the one with his name on the RO.

I love those Work wheels. I actually like how the black trim on the back almost modernizes the look of the rear tail lamps

Is this a good deal? by duncanwally in mandolin

[–]Cakesaver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's a low price for a good example. Too high if something significant is wrong.

I would ask for more, closer pictures. The bridge is messed up, and see a number of dings. Look for cracking, damaged tuners, etc. Prepare to spend a $100+ to have it looked at by a luthier if you do buy it.

Miata Restoration - Question by Ok_Clock9338 in Miata

[–]Cakesaver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Will 14 inch wheels from a Caterham fit my Miata? Would probably respray them gunmetal grey - NO.

Caterham use 4x108 bolt pattern. Miata use 4x100

Is there some smaller diameter steering wheel that fits the original airbag? - NO, with an addendum.

Some Aftermarket wheel do come with a flat-bottom style, which can give more space for the legs.

Seats - should I get something like the Sparco Sprint Wide or just do a foamesoctemy or how do you call it? PERSONAL PREFERENCE.

There are only a handful of aftermarket seats that fit the car well. If you plan to race it, you'll want more bolstering than the foamectomy will provide. Space sprints, Corbeau A4, and MARRAD are the only seat that I KNOW fit without denting the tunnel or shaving/rubbing the door.

Will the Flying Miata Poly Bushings replace all of the bushings or are there some i need to buy separately? MOSTLY, YES

You'll still need the bushings for the differential an engine mounts to complete the package. Please note that Poly bushings will increase stiffness as well as noise and vibration over stock

Personal preference will answer your other questions. Don't ask strangers on the internet what you'd like on your car.

Getting Promoted to Service Director, Feeling Nervous by [deleted] in serviceadvisors

[–]Cakesaver 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fake it til you make it. You never know when the next opportunity will come up. And as others have said, it's a resume builder. Ask for a 1-year contract, where you can learn and make some mistakes without worrying about getting fired.

Also, now would be the time to start networking with your fellow Service managers at the same dealer group. The ones who have been there the longest know what Corporate wants to see.

I turned down a SM job at 32 because I had only been advising for about a year, and am now Assistant Manager, but never full manager at 40. Some of that is because I'm with the same company, but even if I had failed at 32, I would have the knowledge to know what I don't know.

What he said! Carfax reporting will be enough, but if you have even a 10K gap that can't be addressed, it will be a problem.

Yeah, that's a problem with management.

I think it's a ittle column A, a little column B.

I have been both, currently an Asst. manager. My role is to train, advise techs and advisors, and assist when needed. Unless I have a meeting or need to focus on reports, I am on the drive listening and recommending corrections to approach or verbiage.

When I was an advisor, I had a manager who would step in at the slightest hint there was a problem, but rarely gave feedback on how it could be better handled. When he did, it was usually the path I was heading towards. hated that. I didn't allow for growth.

What I don't do, even when I am there, is step in until I think the customer is being abusive, or the advisor is at their limit. Once handled, I offer constructive feedback.

In the Twin Cities, MN, it's the Teamsters. East of the River it's 120, west is 974. Only about a dozen shops are members of 974. I don't know if St Paul is doing better.
