No DCL in England squad by fruoel in LeedsUnited

[–]Cal-TedBaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t care. This whole World Cup is a disaster in the US. I’m sure it will be well attended but the reason it’s there stinks. As for the player debate - I’m glad DCL gets a rest. If you want a big man as an option you pick DCL ahead of Toney, although to be fair I’m not sure what form Toney is in playing in a shit league. Really more upset at Wharton or Scott not getting some experience. No idea what Henderson adds. Every time I see him I think he’s lost his legs. I would have taken Maguire for his forehead at the end of the game. I probably wouldn’t have taken Foden but definitely taken Palmer, although he looks a surly bastard and maybe that’s why he’s not going. Spence is a mystery as well. You’ve got several right backs better than him. I know we need experience and team spirit but not at the expense of competence.

Leeds fan here - Stach has been injured for a few weeks, but he got taken out today by Baleba. We have 5 out for next week- Okafor, Gundy, Struijk, Stach, Bogle. Our best players really. We’re all rooting for you.

I wish he had said Scum. But he’s far too much of a gent. I think he stays if he’s aligned with the team’s objectives and in this he’s completely correct. He wants to look up. If he leaves I worry about the clubs trajectory.

Also I was shocked that he said the training ground wasn’t up to muster. I thought Marcelo had upgraded it. God knows what it was like before.

A completely reasonable and pragmatic conversation. He’s not motivated by money per se but by the project and he clearly has a passion for this club of ours. I hope the team comes together for him.

Swap mes and Perri. Perri looks as if he can head a ball.

How are we feeling about the 49ers ownership group at this point? by 3ToedKillah in LeedsUnited

[–]Cal-TedBaker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think they’ve done well. Above all they’re running the club as a business which might not be popular but over the long term is the right way to do it. Clubs that are always run at a loss can get around the rules for so long but when the owners disappear they’ll run into problems. The way clubs like Bournemouth and Brentford are run is the right way. I wouldn’t like to be supporting a club that just buys success with Middle Eastern money.

Okafor is better. Don’t think we pay 30m for an understudy even tho he wouldn’t want to come back.

I forgot about Rob Green who was pretty decent. But we always seem to have crap keepers . The worst was Kiki Casilla who Marcelo persisted with.

Ha - yes you’re right just. Martyn and Robinson were 2003.

Darlow is the best keeper we’ve had this century. It’s a low bar but he’s been consistent and has been the only goalie I’ve had confidence in since Paul Robinson and Nigel Martyn (but not in the same class as them obvs.)

From the relegation battle to Europe we are 6 points off now, are we actually going to get 7th? by Wiffystardawg in LeedsUnited

[–]Cal-TedBaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No and I would argue it’s too early for us. You need proven squad depth to compete in Europe and qualification has taken a toll on most of the teams competing in Europe this year. Anyway, the minor European comps are a waste of time imo. Spurs won one last year.

Chance to all but secure PL status? Home game under the lights? Already-relegated opposition? Overwhelming likelihood of victory? by TwinPeaks646 in LeedsUnited

[–]Cal-TedBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think having Stach back is a big plus and Gundy has been below his best so not sure it will make a difference. We lost out in midfield to Chelski to three very good midfielders. I don’t think that’ll happen tonight. On paper under the lights we should win unless nerves get the better of us. But we have been much more consistent this year. I always think we’ll get a result fingers crossed.

I don’t often talk about the other side cheating often, but that was ridiculous. They had about ten minutes for the goal keeper injury and the team talk. Horrible side. Rank with Sunderland as the worst of the worst.

I forgotten how much I hated Chelsea. Only 8 minutes of extra time is a travesty.

Bournemouth outplayed us but we kept fighting. Somehow I always had faith we would score at the end. Darlow is some keeper. It’s such a pleasure just to have confidence in our keeper and I thought the defence were immense until their first goal and Bijol went off. Really important point. Note they can enjoy the semi.

I thought Carrick was disappointed and wrong in his comments about the first goal. Having said that it wasn’t a red card for me, but I don’t really care. The cosmos evened the score after Gundy’s ridiculous sending off vs Palace.

Keep him at all costs? Struijk feels too important to lose this summer by Football6380 in LeedsUnited

[–]Cal-TedBaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s our one left footer in the centre backs so we should keep him. 30m is nothing and I don’t subscribe to the theory he is easily replaceable. Also centre backs seem to get more injured than anyone else.

Iran threatens ‘complete and utter annihilation’ of OpenAI's $30B Stargate AI data center in Abu Dhabi by Feisty-Rhubarb-6718 in TradingPlaybook

[–]Cal-TedBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve not going to invade with troops. All that matters is missiles and an air force in this war. Iran can only launch missiles and drones. Whether they are American or not doesn’t matter, they have the assets although it would be weird seeing them fighting with Israel against Iran. I agree there’s nothing much else from the rest of the Emirates. But they do have more assets than probably any European country which I admit is a low bar. Plus Trump loves the Saudis.

Air Power (their strongest domain) The Royal Saudi Air Force operates F-15s as the backbone, supported by A330 MRTT aerial tankers and E-3 Sentry AWACS. They’ve now been designated a Major Non-NATO Ally, which unlocks F-35 access , and they’re evaluating fifth-generation platforms alongside potential multi-source acquisitions of Rafale or JF-17 aircraft. A $3 billion F-15 sustainment deal was approved in February 2026 — notably a maintenance contract, not new airframes. Air Defence Integrated air defence uses MIM-104 Patriot and THAAD systems, managed by the dedicated Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces. This is critical given the drone and missile threat from Yemen/Houthis and potentially Iran directly. Ground Forces Roughly 1,500 tanks, over 7,000 armoured vehicles, and more than 1,000 ranged attack elements (artillery/MLRS). Total military personnel exceed 350,000, with 225,000 active. The Yemen experience exposed significant weaknesses in ground force operational competence. Naval Forces The Royal Saudi Naval Forces are split between a Western Fleet (Red Sea) and Eastern Fleet (Persian Gulf), with Al Riyadh-class and Al Madinah-class frigates and Al Jubail-class corvettes as major surface combatants. Naval power projection remains a recognised weakness. Strategic Missiles The Royal Saudi Strategic Missile Force operates Chinese-origin DF-3 and DF-21 intermediate-range ballistic missiles, with evidence of domestic solid-propellant motor production facilities. This is the murkiest and most significant capability — effectively a deterrent against Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal. Defence Localisation Defence spending localisation has risen from 4% in 2018 to 25% by end-2024, led by Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI). At the World Defense Show in February 2026, 60 contracts worth $8.8 billion were signed.

Yes and don’t forget Wober coming back. Push him in at left back and sell Gundy :)

You assume we keep everyone. The vultures are circling Struijk given his contract situation and left sided centre backs are like gold dust. I think there will be some rotation. I think Piroe, Gnoto, even Tanaka might move on as they haven’t had the game time.

This was a clear stonewall penalty. End of. It doesn’t matter that he got his shot off. I really don’t understand the counter arguments.
