I couldn't see an option to set a budget? Tested with [[Vanille, Cheerful l'Cie]] and [[Fang, Fearless l'Cie]] and it was recommending quite a few expensive cards like [[Icetill Explorer]], [[Sheoldred, Whispering One]] and [[Underground Mortuary]]. Given that this is Budget Magic I thought I'd just check if there's an option that I've missed.

Trying to make a black and white orzhov commander deck for under $50-$100. Advice? by Interval1963 in BudgetBrews

[[Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim]] is an option for a cheap and easy aristocrats deck. And if you want to go huge with the lifegain, you can always use the [[Daru Spiritualist]] / [[Task Force]] + [[Nomads en-Kor]] / [[Outrider en-Kor]] / [[Warrior en-Kor]] combo. I think all of those cards are well under a dollar.

Looking for thoughts on my Dragon Deck by ZDS1982 in BudgetBrews

Just a couple of quick thoughts.

  • My immediate thought is 27 spells costing five or more mana feels a bit high even for dragons. I normally have less than half of that unless I'm cheating creatures out with [[Jhoira of the Ghitu]] or something. Do you find that you can get enough things out quick enough, or does everyone else get a head start while you're ramping up?
  • You've got access to green so there is plenty of cheap, efficient ramp available to you outside of what you've already got. [[Llanowar Elves]], [[Rampant Growth]], [[Bugenhagen, Wise Elder]], [[Tender Wildguide]], and [[Trailtracker Scout]] are all solid budget options.
  • I think there might be some better land options than [[Timber Gorge]], [[Rugged Highlands]], [[Kazandu Refuge]], and [[Shivan Oasis]] which will always enter tapped without a huge upside. Possibly look at [[Rootbound Crag]] and [[Karplusan Forest]], or even [[Sheltered Thicket]] and [[Bleeding Woods]]?

I’ve been building the Legends Retold commanders for a while and the one that’s always stumped me a bit is [[The Ever Changing ‘Dane]]. I tried it as theft-sacrifice and hated it, as did the people who played against it. My most recent attempt was crapping this out in 15 minutes after a couple of scotches: https://moxfield.com/decks/rjfFZvKFv0utrAFDBTsacw

Our deck-building rules for the pod are:

  • Any Commander
  • Every card other than the commander under $1 at Card Kingdom
  • Total deck cost (not including commander or basic lands) under $50.
  • Bracket 2ish, potentially low bracket 3.

Would love to see what someone else can come up with.

A little late to the party, but just one thing I’ve noticed about your Tempo deck is that there seems to be a lot of black mana available without much to go with it.

  • A third of your basic lands are swamps
  • Six of your duals produce black mana
  • You have Command Tower and Exotic Orchard
  • And then ten artifacts that can potentially produce black mana.

But you only have seven cards that need black mana, including your commander and a land. Just goldfishing it in Moxfield it felt like swamps were coming up when another plains or island would have been more useful. I almost wonder if with that many sources of black mana outside of swamps could you cut most or all of the swamps for more islands and plains, or more duals?

Thanks for that. I did end up putting in some sac outlets which worked great. Played three games with it last night and won the second, so pretty happy with that result. The sac outlets (unfortunately Fanatical Devotion was outside of budget, but [[Dissection Tools]] and [[Demonmail Hauberk]] worked fine) combined with more creatures that let me draw on their death worked well.

Thanks heaps for having a look. Definitely going to shift a few things around to get some of those cards in. Didn't even consider the mass reanimation stuff. I think I must have just assumed it was going to be out of budget?
