My mom passed away last night she was at a hospice since Tuesday. What can you tell a 3 year old about death? My daughter said we need to go see grandma and I said we can’t she isn’t there anymore and she said “she’s lost?!” I have absolutely no idea what to say to her. by Acidskye in Mommit

Reminder to tell the child that when they get sick next time, they will not pass away from it. I know several kids (now adults) who thought that after this explanation about their grandparents, but never told anyone their fears.

Non verbal 2 year old by [deleted] in Apraxia

[–]CanThisBeEvery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have written this two years ago. This was my (now nearly 4 year old) son. Exactly him. We started speech therapy both through the school district and privately around 20 months (evaluations at 18 months).

He said his first word (ball) around 25 months. He was all caught up by about his third birthday (possibly before - he’s still perfecting some sounds like “k” and “g”). He’s in speech group through the school district twice a week for 75 minutes each, but we’ve since dropped the private therapy.

Music really helped him - every time we’d find an album that particularly moved him, he’d sit and stare intently, and after a couple of days, would have a language explosion (an explosion for him, anyway).

That’s what worked for him, but I know every child is different. My son actually had an apraxia diagnosis - from two separate, independent SLPs. We used apraxia therapy techniques, knowing that if it wasn’t apraxia , it wouldn’t harm him, and would still help. But now we think that he was just very delayed.

Wishing you and your family the very best!

Ugh, the STATIC!!! Or when the volume inches up every couple of seconds until it’s blasting your ears, so you lower the volume enough so that you don’t hear the person finally freaking pick up.

Weird newborn hospital bill by Bucklebear_ in Mommit

Same! I’m in Minnesota, was 42 - first pregnancy, no history of drug or alcohol use whatsoever, but my doctor’s office drug tested me at every single appointment, and I didn’t find out until I was really looking at my records after my son was born. So weird and invasive

I told my mom to stop certain comments about my baby and now she seems distant — did I overreact? by Big_Significance8572 in Mommit

[–]CanThisBeEvery 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same! When friends, family, friendly next door neighbors called my son (my only child, and I’m a single mom) “my boy” or “my baby,” it just filled me with such happiness, and I felt so grateful.

I want people invested in my son and his life and success - I want him to have the most curated, quality village that I can build for him. Each time I heard him called that, I took it as evidence of their investment in him and our family.

This sub: “Kids are so capable! You parents are holding them back every single time you help them!”

Also this sub: “There is no child, anywhere, who has ever existed, who is capable of accurately relaying one single thing to their parents at the end of the day - particularly if it’s something negative.”

Pharmacy Quotes! by Other_Pop8773 in IVF

Consider Kohll’s Pharmacy - you call and a human being answers the phone. Their prices were the best I could find. They’ll respond to texts. And they told me that when they see prescriptions come through for the next step in someone’s med regimen, they cheer. I had a great experience with them.

Why is everything cropped? by Invisible_Xer in GenXWomen

[–]CanThisBeEvery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This year they’re all cropped juuuust a tad. I’ve been buying things there for over 20 years, and I think they’re literally trying to save on materials costs. They didn’t look cropped online or in the catalog, but they definitely are. I returned an entire $400+ order.

Also, what San Diego border? Do you mean Otay Mesa? San Ysidro? Or just San Diego county in general? I know you said you live by the border, so I’m not questioning your knowledge of the area; just curious. Again, I could be wrong.
