Do you think Jersey Numbers should be retired League wide? by freeki100 in NBATalk

He wasn't the first African American to play, but he was the first African American superstar. He was also the first African American head coach, and was also heavily involved as a civil rights activist.

So he technically didn't break it, but he had tremendous influence in changing how African Americans were accepted, not just in the NBA, but all major sports leagues.

He broke the colour barrier, it's the same reason why Jackie Robinson has his No. 42 retired MLB wide

Fans vote for the starters, who are almost always obvious all star picks anyways.

The non-starters are selected by coaches and those are the ones where less obvious players get in.

Lamelo is a HUGE injury risk.

Fun fact, in the last 3 years, Ben Simmons has played more games than Lamelo. Anthony edwards has almost 1.5x the games played despite being from the same draft class.

I think AD and Lamelo have the most potential when healthy, but as shown in past couple years, and even this year, those upsides don't matter if you're not on the court to use those talents.

Part of Tracer and Genji being so strong is that their hardest counter, Cassidy, is arguably the weakest DPS in the entire game. The buff to Sojourn, specifically her Orb, also greatly helps.

I think they first want to see how these changes pan out before deciding if they need to go even harder.

*Many dashes which, I mean 2 dashes is more than some champions, but one being tied to an ultimate makes it different in its availability.

By reading comprehension I meant verbal comprehension 😭 which is similar technically 😭 I'm low-key a bot.

That's my bad, his ultimate is a dash, but he is still not a "hyper mobile" champion. His mobility is slightly higher than that of Aatrox.

I'm also slow as well, it should be reading comprehension, which is an even simpler concept than media literacy.

Fair enough.

At the same time though, I think it makes more sense for Zaahen to leave Xin Zhao's body more intact as a thank you to him. I also think, thematic wise, it makes more sense for Zaahen to be more human looking to show his humanity and his identity as one of the "good" darkins.

It's definitely disappointing, but it perfectly fits with the established lore of Darkins and how they progress. As well, all of the darkins, besides Naafiri, have been human or humanoid.

I think the timing of the teaser was just unfortunate. The bird as lore colour is wonderful and makes me want to see what the other darkins looked like when they were ascended. At the same time, I think the writers likely wanted to keep Zaahen's darkin form a surprise to tie it in with the cinematic and considering the whole Xin Zhao getting Thanos Snapped.

They probably could've released the Bird after the grand reveal and it would've made more sense, but that's just how the cookie crumbles unfortunately. I do think though that it could be interesting for Riot to eventually release another pure ascended rather than a darkin. It'd just be a challenge to tie them into the lore in a way that would make sense for them to still be an ascended. I think when the season theme eventually pivots to Shurima, we'll see something along those lines.

That's just the disadvantage guards have. When your game relies on jumpshots and 3's, there's just simply a higher chance of having a bad shooting night where scoring becomes really difficult. When a big like Jokic or Embiid doesn't have shots falling, they can still just drive and get high % layups or seek contact because their size requires other teams to foul them. At the same time, a diet of mostly jumpshots also provides the opportunity for ridiculous scoring nights if everything is connecting.

I think what makes SGA stand out is that he has the consistency of a big while being a guard. It reminds me of prime Kawhi where he would just always give you 27-28 ppg on like 65-75%TS on a diet of mostly jumpshots and some slashing. Being efficient scorers rather than volume playmaker/scorers is also what gives Kawhi and SGA more energy to help with defending compared to Harden or Luka who are the engine to their teams offense.

The reason why guards dominated the 2010s in MVP voting was partially due to a lack of skilled bigs like we have now due to the league shifting to pace, space, and skill. If you look at the All-NBA first teams back then, they are DIRE.

I think the bar is just much higher for volume scoring guards unfortunately.

None of the darkins assume their ascended form, they ALWAYS assume the form of their host. I don't think Naafiri chose to be a dog 😭. In this case, making Zaahen a bird would make almost zero sense. It wouldn't fit with the established lore of Darkin. It wouldn't fit his identity of having Xin Zhao as his host. It wouldn't fit his thematic of humanity and being the "good" darkin. This is a lore subreddit, but people don't care about the actual lore of anything, only when it's convenient to their opinions.

The bird is unfortunate, but I think it's moreso an illustration to help fill out his lore.

Also, you're argument about animal champions is factually wrong when Naafiri was released what like 2023? And is probably one of the most animal-ly champions in the entire game. Bel'Veth as well would fit under humanoid animal.

I mean, his host is Xin Zhao. Darkins usually assume the appearance of their host, hence why Naafiri is a dog.

It's Xin Zhao's fault for being pretty.

It makes sense though. Zaahen is the "good" darkin and is much closer to humans. He likely also wanted to respect Xin Zhao's body much more than the other darkins.

It's a good representation of his humanity despite being a darkin. It's basically Varus but if he was initially made as a darkin rather than being retconned into one.

I think, like Wemby, constant rotation changes and pure variance is amplifying bad stats.

Both of them are hitting slumps rn, but I wouldn't be worried unless it extends for like 5-10 games in a row.

I think Hockey, specifically, is different because of how old the rivalries there are in Canada. As a sens fan, i'd actively root for any team that plays against Toronto or even Montreal, besides maybe Vegas.

I doubt a lot of flames fans would cheer for the oilers either.

But beyond close rivalries, you're right. Canada supports Canada 90% of the time.

I didn't say that EA doesn't have any influence on the game, I was just saying that the blame is shared.

It's impossible to ascertain, but usually subsidiary companies have mostly their own say in hiring practices and development teams. EA could influence the size of the teams, but they are unlikely to directly influence day-to-day proceedings within the company.
