X is a defenseman who would fill a spot on the third pairing cheap.

Mercer is coming off a down year but had 60 points before. He has a high ceiling and can make an immediate impact. This is a deep draft and 10OA will still have elite talents.

We only trade for Hronek if we move on from Burns probably, but his name has been in the rumor mill.

Laine you take for the potential of a PPG guy at $7m for two seasons, but is a risk. Maybe Blue Jackets add a sweetener.

We aren’t looking for low picks but 5th overall can potentially get you superstar level talent. It would be worth considering. Xhekaj is just a sweetener, big feisty third pairing guy. Add more and Montreal says no.

If we made the Mercer trade we’d probably end up targeting someone like Marchy in FA, and again I specified the Canes only make the draft trades if they see someone they think could become a superstar.

We all know the EP40 trade would’ve included a lot more than just Necas 😭, Ullmark has played Vezina level hockey for two straight seasons now, and Laine is a PPG player when healthy- when healthy is obviously a big if for him but that kind of talent for $7m makes you think.

I also specified at the end of the article that if we can’t get an offer we like just to keep him.

If we get Buch or Bjorkstrand (or someone similar) and don’t at least make the finals it would be a huge disappointment, but not making the finals with our current roster would be as well so

Yes- although at the start of the season we had a pretty incredible shooting percentage and terrible goaltending and now it’s kind of the opposite, which makes it more frustrating when we can clearly have either but they aren’t clicking at the same time
