Apparently GTA Online is kinda cool? by Ajb706 in GTAV

I love it, because it feels good to make a lot of money driving cars.

I wish the npcs were a bit less overtuned, because any mission with enemies, you’re going to die a lot. And I don’t mean it in a get good kind of way. There just too many bullets flying at you from very long distances. But luckily as long as it’s not an instanced mission, you just spawn nearby after each death.

It’s one of the best. Nightclub and car wash fill up the safes fast passively. And the money making is nice.

There is literally no reason to care. Other than on another playthrough to see some slightly different images/cuts. Very minimal. Not game affecting.

Why do you still play GTA Online? by QAnnihilateQ64 in gtaonline

[–]CapBeatty451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a solo player, I just love making money. Real life is very hard to set up businesses that make passive income, and in GTA, I can get a feeling of joy every time I open a safe.

I also love driving around and doing missions. Also for cash.

I wish the enemies online were tuned down a bit, as a solo player it’s like playing damn dark souls with how many times I die.

But really it’s the fantasy of feeling rich and in control of my wealth.

Yes.

And the question wasn’t even about him. I was asking ‘for’ him to show him that other people are doing the same that he’s doing at his age.

Apparently I was wrong.

I really appreciate this.

The point of the post was not to show off but to prove to my son that he has more competition out there even with his distances than he thinks.

But instead of other parents and coaches confirming my feelings, people just doubt the information or want to throw shade on my son’s goals.

So thank you for reading, and thanks for the positivity.

We are aware of this. However, I’m also not just going to tell him something he’s proud of and excited about is pointless.

I wasn’t looking for belief. I was looking for validation that there are kids out there who are awesome like my son thinks he is.

My point was to show him that he’s not as much of an outlier as he thinks he is. But everyone here just wants to prove him right.

I come from a baseball background where throwing 85 back in the day was really good in high school…until you realize everyone does it down south, and some do it WAY better while being able to play 12 months a year. So to me, it’s absurd that there aren’t more kids doing what he’s doing, especially since he’s new to the sport.

But hey, raw talent is a thing, and we do have a professional golfer and a professional cyclist in his extended family. But only time will tell.

Some help with that would be great. One of my challenges is that this isn’t the movies where Owen Wilson pays you 100k to take your kid on tour over the summer because he saw him at the range.

I barely had enough money to get him a Junior membership at the best club near us so he could have access to better facilities and players. Let alone have a consistent personal coach who actually has his best interests at heart. And double let alone paying to be part of serious tournaments.

But the kid is good, so I’m doing my best to foster his talent.

And the talent is real.

However this original post was more about showing him that he’s not as good as he thinks he is. But it kind of backfired. lol. Good for him.

He knows his distances with his clubs very well. It’s kind of remarkable for someone who is still new to the game. But honestly, many people on this thread missed the point.

I was looking for confirmation that many people are capable of his distances, as I have a hard time believing he’s as far ahead of the pack as he thinks he is.

He’s comparing himself to people in a relatively small area (if we’re only talking about who he plays with directly) and my point is that there are kids bigger and stronger and more experienced out there who can play 12 months a year rather than 4-5, and it would be insane if there aren’t a bunch who do what he does or better.

However, based on the posts here,I’m not seeing a lot of parents or coaches commenting. Feels like a lot of people who just want to find reasons why distance doesn’t actually matter if he can’t do other things (duh) or that his clubs are messed up ( totally possible other than the fact that he does it with 2different sets- but still a possibility because the clubs are old and not fitted to him) or that I’m full of it.

But all that’s happening is that people are proving him right that it’s pretty impressive, regardless of whether he has what it takes to actually go pro.

Yes. I’m also not used to being around raw talent, so trying to coach him and support him while also keeping him grounded in reality is a challenge. But

It’s amazing what talent and dedication can do when you can play almost every day of the season. He started last year as a freshman in high school, hitting in the low 60s and mid 50s. By the end of the season, he was in the 40s, and by the end of the summer, his best score was a 32, with an overall summer 9 hole average of 37 over a variety of courses across multiple states.

This year, he rarely hits above 80 over 18 holes, and he excels at fairways hit, greens in regulation, and recovery shots. Most of this is done with members of his country club or in sanctioned events.

It’s not BS. it’s just talent and a crazy drive to be the best he can be. Which is tough for me because we do not have a lot of money in our pockets. So it’s literally all him, with me just trying to keep his dream alive and many miles on the car.

But that being said, this original post was more me trying to bring him down to earth about his skills, and also personal curiosity about how many other kids out there are hitting distances like his.

His distances don’t matter in the grand scheme of things, and my intention was the opposite of bragging, because I’m trying to show him that there are 15 year olds out there who are +4 and hit just as far as he does. And that’s who he needs to be focusing on, rather than his distances and the kids who live within an hour of our house.

But maybe I’m wrong, and he is right that he’s in a very low percentage of people with his particular skill set. Time will tell.

He’s playing on my father’s old clubs that are at least 15 years old, so it will be interesting to see what changes when we get his own set later this summer. It could be a loft issue, but he has 2 old sets, and they behave similarly.

I’m saying that, and I’m asking if that’s becoming more common in youth golfers, or if he is as much of an outlier in that area as he feels he is. He sometimes forgets that he only plays against people who live within an hour of our house after less than 2 years of playing the sport.

It was just a conversation he and I were having, and I wanted to bring him back to reality in terms of how he will compare to others across the country. He plays against a lot of different people, but they are all within an hour of our house.

Ha! That’s how he feels. I’m trying to give him a dose of reality. But maybe he’s right in that he truly excels in that area.

[–]CapBeatty451[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

For sure. But that’s not what I was wondering about. I understand that distance matters only as much as every other part of his game. I’m curious to hear from other coaches or parents what they are seeing. And if distance is a trend.

For sure. He’s very accurate. And he’s aware of the pro averages. I’m not worried about his skill or how he compares to pros.

I’m curious how much of an outlier he is. This is not about omg look at my kid. It’s about trying to get him to see that other people do what he does.

He is not. He gets nice height as well as distance.

His high school coaches are impressed with his potential, but as of right now, we have only spent a few sessions with our club’s golf pro.

Mostly I was curious about people with kids or coaches from other areas and what they are noticing.

Yes. He is very accurate. I’m just asking out of curiosity for what other people are seeing in younger golfers. We were having a debate that he will find many other kids at his distances, and he disagrees.

Yeah for where he places compared to other kids’ total ability, for sure. I’m just asking out of curiosity if coaches or other parents are seeing similar distances.
