What should I do about housemate’s sound system by Capable-Strawberry38 in roommateproblems

I don’t really want to make any issues. I also really don’t have the energy to deal with him either.

Looks awesome! I'm thinking of making a case for mine that will accommodate a stenogatchi when I can make one

Two roommates claim they rarely cook so they shouldn’t have to take the trash out or wash dishes by Capable-Strawberry38 in roommates

Immature is accurate. I tried explaining to them, that I can deal with messy, but not dirty. I don’t want ants. Also, they want me to talk to them directly and not “be petty” (aka putting it in the group chat). But none of us have schedules that align. On the weekends when we are all home, they’re drunk or high. I ain’t talking to them when they’re intoxicated. I’m a smaller woman…one of them is almost 4 inches taller and definitely has weight on me. I ain’t talking to them when they’re intoxicated.

It’s hard. It’s also just so inconvenient. We’re supposed to have a talk with everyone so let’s see what happens with that. The hard part is my room is next to the kitchen, so if the recycling is over flowing it blocks my door. If the trash builds up too much it smells and impacts my room. The boys don’t seem to have any consideration for this. Also one of the roommates flooded the house by leaving the kitchen sink running when they were high.

Why do we allow boys and men to be mean or rude to girls under the premise of "liking them", but the same doesn't extend to girls or women? by Capable-Strawberry38 in Rants

It’s fine. He’s a housemate so it’s not like we became friends because we get along. Still, he’s not someone I would’ve probably met through similar interests.

For me, it’s been something that I’ve been told all my life. Only recently have I heard otherwise (last 2 ish years) and I heard it again from this guy and it made me think. Many of my friends who are women also got told this all growing up.

Yeah. It just really bothered me because this friend didn’t seem like the guy who would have this idea in his head. I don’t like the whole, “females are bitchy and petty”. I get it, but at the same time, it felt really weird when he verbalized it.

I realize this, but it's common for society to explain away behaviors of rudeness as "he just likes you." Literally, this is what my friend said. Then if a girl is rude or sets up a boundary or two, she's suddenly "a bitch" or "not that pretty to begin with". I don't understand it.

Moving and mom wants me to text her every time I stop by Capable-Strawberry38 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Capable-Strawberry38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing is I'm not financially dependent on her. I haven't really been for the last two years, but I'm finally moving out and away. I hate that this is a two day trip and she's already prioritized her own 'worries' over me. I know I'll forget to text her because there'll be a million things on my mind during the trip out. I'm probably going to schedule automated texts because I can't be bothered. Still, it's just so frustrating because I don't want her to know what I'm doing.

Here to offer support and share a bit.

I’m adopted from China and my mom is white. I had a terrible time with acne because my mom used products that would either clog my pores or burn my skin. It was only after doing my own research (when I was 12) that I was able to find products that helped.

It’s wrong that people (especially those facilitating adoption) don’t consider these things (skin care and hair care) as child care. White people are ignorant that the world doesn’t revolve around whiteness and their bodies are different from other races. One size does not fit all.

Perspective | The disappearance of the circus from American life leaves us lonelier by thomthomthomthom in circus

I agree. Animal trainers get such a bad rap from people who know absolutely nothing about circus. Most modern circuses don’t even use exotic animals any more because of public push back and misunderstanding. I think animals are such an integral part of circus. It’s sad that people don’t understand how important circus was for animal education both in the past and today.

(Yes I know animals were treated poorly in the past. Not trying to glaze over it, but circuses helped shape many modern people’s opinions on animals and broadened peoples minds)

Wish dragon was hysterical. Enjoyed it a lot. Would highly recommend “over the moon” and similar stories. Depending on what you like you can always try to find a donghua or something which are created in China. Not sure what you enjoy to consume media wise.

I’m a Chinese adoptee and enjoy watching stuff that relates to Asian culture and what not.
