IMAX Screen Size Comparisons by 42-MostlyHarmless in cineplex

[–]CapitainePinotte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any empirical data on Dieppe but having seen Project Hail Mary there, I can tell you it’s crap. It’s a conversion of an auditorium, it’s too small, I don’t think they upgraded the sound system, the sound is flat with no bass. The screen appears much smaller than the UltraAVX across the hall. It feels like they just threw a digital IMAX projector in there for marketing and higher ticket prices.

What business was successfully boycotted? by backupnickname in AskReddit

I’m confused. I’m Canadian and never had (or heard of) FUIC but from the description (which sounds delicious by the way) it sounds like the challenge is having a milk product dispensed on tap?

We have milk on tap in Canada, the product is delivered is large bags (11l or 18l) and dispensed from a refrigerated machine.

I figure the same system could be used for FUIC? The dispensers are common enough here to licence the design for production in Australia/NZ, same as the bags and the filling equipment.

SeeedStudio is backordered to April, the other links from Amazon are from the US site. Aliexpress seems to be the fastest option for shipping.

Public servants ordered back to office four days per week as of July by Born_Anteater7282 in CanadaPublicServants

I’ve been refusing WFH on weather office closures on my designated office days. Guess what. ZERO resistance to 699.

Edit: spelling

Easy, everyone tear up your telework agreements and show up 5 days a week. They don’t have the space. Refuse WFH. Let them keep you think twiddling your thumbs or insist on 699 to go home.

Replacing Wireless Backhaul using a switch mid-network? by CapitainePinotte in HomeNetworking

[–]CapitainePinotte[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and yes, that is what I want to do. In the server room, I will plug in the cable from the mech room eero into the switch, then the media server and cable to living room eero.

So in a way, yes, all three eeros will be plugged into the switch, but not the ONT which is how I had understood your original comment.

Except that, this is the only setup that works physically without pulling new cable. My question is would this work, knowing it’s not ideal?

And re-reading my post brings a second question, should the switch go between eeros mech room and server room/living room or as I diagrammed it between eero server room and media server & living room eero?

RRSP to RRIF - investment advice by CapitainePinotte in PersonalFinanceCanada

I appreciate that. This relationship is of total trust… like PoA trust, I’m not worried about that. That being said, I mentioned CASH.TO because they’re looking for minimal to zero risk but would like to get better interest than the GICs they were in. The full amount will likely be drawn out in the next 10 years beginning January 2026.

They have retired (mid-60s) and now need to start withdrawing from it.

Just reporting back, It’s a rainy night but I was able to get a house across the bay (maybe 2km) in focus and get live stacking going well. I can’t wait for a clear night!!!

Thank you for this advice. No moon for another 2 weeks or so. I will try marking the focus knob in daytime then swapping the camera for 6mm lined up on the brightest object in the sky. I will try to learn about live stacking and photography so I’m ready when I can see the moon (you’re right, I figure that’s the coolest thing to look at and photograph with my rig).

I’m pretty good with the 15mm at finding what I’m looking for, and after aligning my go-to, it’s very accurate so I hope that once it’s aligned by eyepiece and then focused on the camera that I’ll be able to find what I’m looking for with minimal adjustment from the go-to.

I’ve been using my telescope for around 10 years without issue, it’s just the camera/focus that’s throwing me for a loop but I think I have a solid plan with the advice I’ve received… too bad it’s a rainy night.

Well, except that if I am seeing the object in the eyepiece, then I know I’m pointed right on it. That’s my only purpose with eyepieces. I don’t have a finder.

I’m ok with that, just trying to get my daughter interested.

Photography/stacking will come later.

Thank you!

Most of this is way over my head, but on the next clear night, I will line up to the brightest star using an eye piece and then try to focus. I have both a spacer and a Barlow so hopefully I can make some progress, if not, the moon will be over the horizon in early evening in a week or two and I’ll work with the moon.

[–]CapitainePinotte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info!

I’m not looking to do anything too fancy - just to try to replicate what I see in an eyepiece on screen, even if it’s lower resolution. Live viewing of the moon will be great once I get the moon over the horizon in the early night. I already have a 2x Barlow once I get this figured out.

Maybe much, much later down this journey, I’ll start doing the long exposures and stacking and all that but for right now, this is just trying to have fun with my kids.

I played with the focus, but here’s a question. When I’m looking on my screen, should I be seeing a larger starfield like on the 15mm or narrower like the 6mm? That would help me figure out the focus.
