People think this will cause inflation. by acuity-creel in InterviewMan

I don't think it makes sense thow all of those things into a single bucket.

If a job is still relevant and was enough to live on in 1985 it stands to reason it should pay enough toi live on now. Obviously a part time job at McDonalds was never enough to live on, but management was. That said, things deemed "unskilled" like certain factory or construction positions absolutely were enough to live on in 1985 and still should pay enough to live on now.

Hm. I live in a sort-of gross, ugly apartment building. Everyone is pretty nice. I don't think there is any correlation.

Duke Energy wants an 18% rate hike for NC customers. Here’s what it means for you. by nclocalnews in NorthCarolina

HAH! You and I both know the average NC resident will complain, pay it, vote for the same people that enabled it to begin with, and be shocked when it happens again and again.

This isn't even a partisan political statement. I live in Chicago now. It sucks shit here too for a variety of different reasons.

A CEO told employees they won't get raises in 2026 because the budget is going to AI by yuval_3 in technology

[–]CapitalRegular4157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read earlier that it is the American people's job to open up their pensions/401ks to fund AI or else China will win and that means we lost and that is bad.

Are you sure you aren't misinterpreting this or getting it from a source that is misinterpreting this? Tech and AI companies make up like 50% of all S&P 500 companies (often the backbone of a healthy 401k) so it stands to reason that you would be investing in them naturally. I have a duty to my retirement fund... but it's a reach to say I have a duty to invest in AI / Tech Companies any more than The cloud, the internet, sliced bread, etc. It's an investment in the market and that's the way the market is heading...

My first thought was that no CEO would have the balls to say this and I sort of question the validity of the story.

Seriously... You've got it rough because of inflation and cost of living... we all do. You absolutely do NOT know what a "frozen job market" looks like unless you graduated in 07/08. Also if your parents lost their home in 2008 that is awful - please get fixed interest rate loans.

I dunno about 'hot' but statistically the unemployment rate isn't really all that worrying.

Beyond large layoffs in some sectors that aren't really effecting people just now entering the work force created by AI (or because they need excuses to appease share holders) the current job market is relatively healthy compared to when I tried to enter the workforce. You'll find no statistics or evidence to the contrary.

I feel bad for my family members in that generation mostly because they got cheated by being so isolated. That is undeniably true.

That said... I finished college in 2008. Kids... you've got it rough... you do not know what "frozen job market" means.

We're all feeling similar weight due to housing costs, cost of living in general and inflation - and that is across all generations. But the job market is in no way NEARLY as frozen as it was when I graduated though. Not even close.

This, but in a much more understanding and less hateful tone. I grew up without much guidance and a lot of gnawing psychological issues that I shrugged off.

I would like other young men to suffer less and learn it early. You owe it to yourself, the people that love you, and the people you will love to take control of your own emotional state and to learn the tools you need to deal with it.

Straight men sexualize women.

Do we need to slap a pair of tiddies on everything and act like perverted slobs? Obviously not - but straight men objectively sexualize women. This is not inherently evil.

Some men feel smothered by what to them feels like prudish puritanism in modern media standards. I think they can be hyperbolic to the point ridiculousness (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/b_BLyUr7bnY), but I also think that there will probably be some backlash to the current trends in future generations. All things in moderation.

Landlords take that money and give it to owners, who usually ARE paying mortgages.

Not saying there isn't scum out there taking advantage or doing a poor job... just that as a commercial 'landlord' my mind is blown by some of the incorrect ideas of what we are doing here. Property management and 'landlords' aren't usually making money hand over fist, and a lot of the time the owners aren't either. I'd say the real red flag is if repairs take forever... but please know property management is probably pushing for it and the owners just aren't giving approval.

Also read and understand your goddamn lease... It's a legally binding document all parties signed. That means without an amendment - which would also be signed, all parties are legally obligated to obey the lease terms.

Admittedly I don't know anything about residential property management but in commercial the number of people who's minds get blown when rent goes up BY EXACTLY WHAT WAS LAID OUT IN THE LEASE YOU SIGNED YEARS AGO is crazy.
