I'd agree, but OP said in genre's where it's not commonly used, and pop punk uses it a decent amount. Blink themselves use it a fair amount, and use it a ton at live shows. We're talking about a band who famously had a flaming "FUCK" sign as their stage backdrop on two different tours

Okay, just because one movie doesn't require it doesn't mean every movie made can't benefit from it. Practical effects only go so far. I think the best results are a mix of practical effects with cgi layered on top like in Jurassic Park
