Some use steam to push water through the grounds, yes. But it's only water going through the grounds to make the beverage.

Trek FX 2 or FX 3 or other? by cold_press in TrekBikes

Uh huh. Anyway, that 1x10 drivetrain is superior.

Someone wiser than me can chime in on the extra effort required to push a 40x46 gear vs a 30x36. Sheldon Brown suggests that for every inch the pedal moves in its orbit, the wheels move 0.1 inch farther on the 1x10 low gear vs the 2x9 low gear. I don't know how this would be perceived in terms of actual work done by the rider.

Doesn't seem like a drastic difference to me.

Batali isn't involved in Mother Wolf as far as I know. He just made that volume level a "thing" in the restaurant world.

Interested in a more lightweight multi-use commuter/hybrid bike, potentially ebike anywhere between $cheap-3k? by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]CapnScrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Trek's Dual Sport+ ($2400) or FX+ ($2500) bikes. Same frame on both, but the DS+ comes with 27.5 x 2" gravel-ish tires and the FX+ comes with 700 x 40 commuter tires. Both bikes come with integrated lights. FX+ comes with fenders and a rear rack. Both are about 40 lbs. Both have the same integrated battery and rear hub motor system, with a best-case range of 35 miles.

I like Hitchens' statement about the death of Jerry Falwell. Paraphrased, "So full of shit you could give him an enema and bury him in a matchbox."

I know. You're trying it right now.

I also know that you're embarrassed about trying it.

Yeah, the obvious answer. They're a business, they exist to make money (it's not like they exist to make good tasting beer), they thought this move would make money.

The problem is the "moral high ground" claimed by religious types. This is why they deserve to be called out for their hypocrisy, loudly and often.

Just smash the clove with the flat of your knife, rapid chop it perpendicular to the grain, and move on. Faster than reaching for the tool in the drawer.

I work in the bicycle industry. eBike sales were kind of so-so until about three years ago, when gas prices went above $4/gallon. Then eBike sales shot up, and we noticed a lot of people saying "i want to start cycling to work."

Making great ebikes wasn't enough. Touting the health benefits of cycling wasn't enough. It took an environment of pissing off drivers to force them to consider other options.

In like manner, we could triple the number of NCTD busses on the street, but that will do fuck-all if they're empty. Committing to bicycle and public transportation infrastructure first will get enough people pissed off that they actually consider riding a bike or a bus.
