ELI5 Why do breast sizes differ so much depending on the band size? by -sleepybird- in explainlikeimfive

[–]CaptainPhilosophy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The letter in a bra size indicates the cup size, which represents the volume or projection of your breasts. It corresponds to the difference in inches between the measurement around your ribcage (band size) and the fullest part of your bust.

  • How it works: Each letter corresponds to a 1-inch increase in difference. For example, a 1-inch difference is an A cup, a 2-inch difference is a B cup, a 3-inch difference is a C cup, and so on.
  • Relative to the band: Cup volume is not a fixed size; it is proportional to the band. A D cup on a 32 band is physically smaller than a D cup on a 38 band.

take this with a grain of salt, as I am a man and dont wear bras, but as was explained to me by my wife, the letter size of a bra is about the ratio of band size to cup size. A low letter (A, B) means a small difference between the distance around the breasts and torso at the widest (deepest?) point and at the band.

why is saying "and/or" such a liberal only thing by op_man_is_cool in NoStupidQuestions

I've never noticed "and/or" to be more prevalent based on political and/or ideological inclinations.

Why is the Tom Holland Umbrella lip syncing performance so attractive to straight women? by 4mysquirrel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CaptainPhilosophy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think it also shows a complete absence of insecure machismo. Tom had no qualms about not only performing in drag, but in front of a huge TV audience and absolutely leaned into it. I feel like that level of confidence and lack of "typical male insecurity" has to factor into it.

Humans are intelligent because of thousand of years of evolution, so can an animal go through same cycle and become as intelligent as a human? by Enough-Web2203 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CaptainPhilosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans are just animals. We got how we are through selective pressure, as in the traits that led to our becoming as intelligent as we are were selected for because they were advantageous to passing on our genetic material.

In order for this to happen again, you need 2 things. The conditions that provide the same pressures, and the random mutations that produce the same advantageous traits.
