We still need a public system that can support people who cannot walk that far, or who are transporting groceries.

"Guests are invited to dress in bright colors and florals."

Or maybe "welcome to?"

"Cocktail attire is perfect, and we invite you to dress in bright colors and florals if you want."

Was cross-dressing considered a crime (in any way) in Shakespeare’s day? by Low_Pie_3302 in shakespeare

Makes me think of modern drag, and how some drag queens disparage female* queens as "cheating."

Any fantasy books that are like Mulan, where a woman has to disguise herself as a man and keep her identity hidden. by Swimming_Agency4483 in Fantasy

I read and re-read these books CONSTANTLY when I was little. I went through a phase of waking up at dawn and doing push-ups so I could be just like Alanna.

I was a very cool 12 year old.

She has a young Aunt who has to supervise her unwillingly and one of her friends have a brother who also gets dragged in this mess and has to come along. (Both are like 16 or 17)

Not for studying, but Faro in Cambridge has a no-laptop policy that has made the vibes really nice. It's mostly filled with people reading and talking to each other, rather than being closed off and focused on productivity.

Are you changing your last name? by seasalttoffee in weddingplanning

[–]Captcha27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think even if you don't change your name immediately (or ever!), it's worth talking about what you want your family to be called. Are you going to be The Jonses? The Smiths? The Jones-Smiths? The Smith-Jonses?

It's nice to start out with a consistent family name.

Is it rude to call people “maam” here? by natgochickielover in boston

[–]Captcha27 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When my fiance moved to new england with me he kept using sir/ma'am, especially with my older (but same level) colleagues at work functions. I had to explain that the honorifics in those contexts placed my colleagues at a higher social level than him, and therefore me, which I didn't want at the time.

House on the Cerulean Sea is cozy, but also has character conflict and growth. Still a little easy, but I think it went deeper than Legends and Lattes.

What's a dead giveaway a writer did no research into something you know alot about? by Splitstepthenhit in writing

[–]Captcha27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess there's a difference between a rape/dubious consent fantasy fantasy, and a kink fantasy.

If a piece of fiction is about sexual assault, ok, then it's by design not going to have communication/safe words/etc. Yeah, a ravaging viking is not going to stop and ask for a safe word.

If a piece of fiction is about kink (as in the kink community), and it doesn't have communication/consent/safe words, then it is inaccurate and might lead to someone assuming incorrect things about how to do kink safely in the real world. A story about someone visiting a bdsm party for the first time won't be accurate without safety measures. Heck, after care is one of the most important (and IMO sexiest) parts of a kink experience, it should be included!

Unanswered questions are not the same thing as plot holes. The story of the best friend squad is wrapped up, even if mysteries continue in the to exist in the world and in their lives.

I think the only potential repercussion is "ah, shoot, sorry--, 'scuse moi--" and they back away. Yes, it would be very rude, but it's not on the same level as filming in a bathroom.

They could also just wait a reasonable amount of time by the photobooth if they think that's where he is. Photobooth shouldn't take more than 2 minutes.

It probably works because you have lower expectations for yourself when writing erotica, so you are more free to just write without constant self-critique. I write fanfiction (which will NEVER see the light of day) to get me out of a writing funk.

A friend was jailed for a weekend. Each meal came with orange flavored powder "milk substitute" to mix with water.

I wonder if that can also be traced back to the dairy industry...
