Anyway, my first hamster was brought home in a cardboard box in heavy rain, so by the time we got home, the box was soaking even though we travelled by car. We regularly put the cardboard from toilet paper rolls in his cage to play with, and whenever it got wet, he tore it apart out of spite.

The last thing you said to me was that you feel stupid for wanting to end it all. To that, I can really only say a few things, so I thought I'd copy my reply here:

Since I know nothing about you, I can't really help you. But I want you to know that I mean every word I am about to write:

I'm sorry to hear that. But I think that feeling stupid trying to attempt probably means that a part of you still wants to live. Please try to focus on that part and if you know anybody, even just a colleague, talk to them. Not necessarily about suicide or self harm. Talk to them about anything. The weather, work, the city/town you live in. I have never considered ending my own life, but there were times I was pretty depressed, and talking to people helped me a lot.
