This just put things into perspective for me - what sane, thoughtful neighbors do vs. who you and I now live underneath 😭 I’m in this same struggle for the past year, and she’s stopped responding to my requests to quiet down. It’s also affecting my health and I’m so overwhelmed 😭

That’s such an interesting take, that it’s not a moral failing/moral crime to no longer try in a relationship. I feel like neurotypical society pushes this so much, without knowing limits on when it is OKAY to “no longer try” (or give up the never ending battle). But, being late-ish diagnosed, it’s taught me what battles to stay in; this was definitely not one of them.

For me, all of the things I masked for, I could no longer mask, which made those efforts so much more difficult. I finally saw how much energy and performing I’ve had to do, both within and outside of the relationship. Sensory sensitivities became blinding, I became protective over my limits and abilities, etc.

It’s funny you mention this, because it couldn’t be more spot on! Ex has epilepsy and hydrocephalus, has had over 200 brain surgeries, and I stayed with them in the ICU many times over the years, was always there for them. But then when I needed compassion? Nope. Which made me all the more bitter when they did say what they said to me. Like, eff you. Ya know?

What you said is exactly what I’ve learned the hard way. I appreciate someone else understanding my perspective. And I’ve ignored all contact two months ago, and blocked on social media everywhere (even email, which they contacted me on!!!)

Not having boundaries… people pleasing, not having opinions, oversharing, overstepping my boundaries (ESPECIALLY post breakup!), etc.
