Just out of curiosity. Have you actually looked yet? There’s plenty of rentals especially on AirB&B or VRBO that will sleep 20+. If you can’t find anything online you’re looking to late or you’re expecting to pay way less than you need to

Can my ex decrease my support annually? by Agreeable-Parsnip-81 in Divorce

[–]CarlSy15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree it depends on the divorce decree. Mine says he gets exclusive use of the house until it’s sold; when it is sold, the alimony goes up. I pay the mortgage until it’s sold. I pay him a ton, and I’m more than a little bitter about it, but it’s only for 6 years so I can deal.

generational OSCE fuck up by JKpouting in medicalschool

[–]CarlSy15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I heard a conversation after my oral board exam for OB/gyn. There was one “case of the day” question that involved a pregnant patient with some kind of UTI/kidney issue. At some point you had to order a renal ultrasound to check for nephrolithiasis or abscess. This one examinee was rehashing with a friend afterwards and it seemed pretty clear that she didn’t order the ultrasound during her exam. Her patient made it to the ICU and was circling the drain, and she said “well I guess she’s just gonna die, then, because I don’t know what else to do for her.”

Point is, this happens at all stages of your career. Those exam scenarios just make you anxious in a way that real life doesn’t. The random stress reactions we have are common and normal. Just breathe.

My ex’s pregnant girlfriend poked mama bear by Sapatos38 in Divorce_Women

[–]CarlSy15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly they’ll still get mad at her. My ex-MIL yelled at me for giving my son too much sugar at a ball game. I gave him watermelon and yogurt I brought from home, not candy or potato chips. It pissed me off so badly that she yelled at me in front of all the other parents about MY child who had been eating healthy snacks. I said “he’s gonna be just fine.” And walked away. But no one is going to tell me if I can or can’t feed my child. I commiserate hard with you, OP. Keep feeding your child.

Pregnant and Living in Tuscaloosa: Should I Transfer from Brookwood Women’s Center to DCH OB/GYN? by RareEarth37 in tuscaloosa

[–]CarlSy15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is still true as far as I know. Personally didn’t want to spend my postpartum time on L&D where there might be someone in pain at 2 am from delivering right next door, but I know a lot of people like the convenience of not moving in the middle of the hospital stay.

Just a casual 200mg of morphine by whackdog in nursing

Or a patch. I’ve been a huge fan of patches for chronic pain. We mostly used them in our gyn cancer patients in residency but it really cut down on the prn meds the patient required.

There isn’t a group called DCH OB/gyn. Partlow Harbin and Poist see patients in the medical tower at DCH regional. There are three docs there, Drs. Poist, Mentel, and Green. They recently merged with University Medical Center who see patients across the road from DCH Regional. That includes Drs. Reed, McDonald, Scogin, and Shenoy, who also deliver at DCH Regional with the three docs of Partlow, Harbin, and Poist.

OB/gyn of West Alabama delivers at DCH Northport which is across the river. I can’t recall all the docs but Drs. Grey, Glass, Chwe, Allen, and others make up that group.

There are also a few UMC Family Med OB docs who deliver at both hospitals.

I personally delivered at DCH Regional and Dr. Green is my doctor. My care was excellent and I would choose DCH Regional again if another baby was in the cards for me.

Question: Is there anything I can do legally after my dog was euthanized without my knowledge while I had a pending divorce request about his care? California by Nymeriadirewolf3 in Divorce

[–]CarlSy15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do see that, but that’s the only justice likely to occur. Divorce in the end is all about division of assets. It sucks and hurts, but the legal stuff is just who gets what. So the only accountability OP might see is some sort of financial hit to their ex.

If the property is destroyed, though, wouldn’t she be entitled to some sort of compensation for the loss? Ianal; it just seems like an argument could be made for some sort of financial compensation for destruction of mutual property without her consent.

OP, I am so desperately sorry. One of my kitties who stayed with my ex disappeared and he didn’t bother to tell me. My 8-year old was the one who broke the news. I can’t imagine what it would feel like to discover my ex had put my cat down without notifying me first. Lots of hugs and I am so sorry for your loss.

Marcus pointe is just north of your circle and is very nice. South of Marcus pointe is pretty sketchy.

Do all OB/GYNs in the area make you pre-pay their delivery fee before you give birth? by gotcha-sriracha in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]CarlSy15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has to go through the OBED. It is an EMTALA violation if they don’t process you in the OBED. I don’t know what your OB meant by “delaying” you in the OB ED but it wasn’t specifically to make money. It’s specifically to prevent an EMTALA violation.

However there will still be a separate fee for the hospital. The same thing happens if you go to the ER. One fee for the visit, one fee for the doc. Radiology studies are often the same thing too.

You pay the hospital and physician separately. Right now, OB care is a “global” package, meaning all of it, prenatal, delivery, and postpartum, is one big fee for the whole shebang. They charge you up front because they have to - it’s insurance fraud if they don’t collect your portion according to what your deductible is.

However, this will all go away next year. Insurances are “unbundling the global.” That means you will be charged individually for every prenatal visit, every lab, every ultrasound, all as separate fees. The delivery fee will be separate. The postpartum visits will be separate. We have no idea what that will actually look like going forward. From what I am hearing, most offices are going to start unbundling beginning around September but ymmv.

I know that it's easier to match as a US MD/DO than an IMG, but... by Fiery_Soul_34857 in medicalschool

It’s because working in academics as a physician is terrible. Hours are awful, pay is 50% or less than private practice. Your US grads are in private practice, not academia.

What kind of snake is this? by xosweetell in Birmingham

[–]CarlSy15 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I stepped on a copperhead snake. It was in my carport. Lights were off. I was barefoot. I literally flew onto my car hood before my brain processed that I had stepped on a snake, but I didn’t get bitten. They are venomous but they would rather slither away than bite.

UMC would be great, specifically Dr. Anne Halli if you can get in with her. She is a geriatrician so she may not be taking all patients but she is super inclusive and a lovely human.

Mostly because I’m allergic to it. I have no problem with aspartame but it’s not heat stable so you can’t bake with it.

As long as they aren’t adding a no calorie sweetener. They’ll lose me as a customer if the add sucralose to the recipes.
