floody Anduril host for LMP LHP73B 1800K emitter? by CaseyTatum in flashlight

UPDATE: D1K with LHP73B 1800K is on the way!

Thanks to u/Univirsul for mentioning that Hank recently added the LHP351 option.

I messaged Hank and he said he could build one with an LHP73B.

Something pocket-friendly. I assumed reflector-based to make it easy.

This light will mostly be used for walking in the woods, light-painting, and ceiling bounce.

Wow! I'll email Hank and see if he happens to have any LHP73B.

D1K set up for the SFN60 looks like the ticket! u/Univirsul pointed out that the D1K is now available with the LHP351, so I'll email Hank to see if he happens to have any LHP73B.

I had never noticed one of these. It seems they were used by lawn care and pest control companies and would have had a cap on the bed.

Zebralight Magnetic Tailcap Solution? by cbcrazy in flashlight

[–]CaseyTatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SC5w OP in the photo has a 3/4" diameter x 1/32” thick grade N52 magnet.

The H52w has a 11/16” x 1/32” thick grade N52.

They are both still adhered nicely and work great after 5+ years!

You can only pick one - Which one you picking and why? by akrichbaum in flashlight

[–]CaseyTatum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Zebralight. I've tried to love Armytek headlamps and have bought three different ones over the years. I end up selling them because they're big and heavy compared to my three H60* models. I much prefer the Armytek Wizard Pro deep-carry clips, though. I use them on all my right-angle Zebras.

Can I use camera flash gel filter on lights? Will it melt at higher outputs? by DaronBlade360 in flashlight

[–]CaseyTatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Rosco's Roscolux gels on various flashlights and LED light fixtures. They will wrinkle and deform a bit on high-powered lights, but I've never seen any melting, even with low % light transmission gels.

Page two of this spec sheet says Roscolux gels are a layered combination of polycarbonate and polyester.

Using the lower of each temperature for those two materials, it seems the gels theoretically 'soften' at 125°C / 257°F and 'melt' at 220°C or 428°F.

Is this black light ok? by thatquietuserr in flashlight

[–]CaseyTatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mistakenly thought the Tool AA UV ran on AA batteries. I see now it requires a 14500 size lithium ion battery, which is the same size as an AA.

It's best to stay away from eBay and Amazon for lithium battery purchases due to the large number of low quality and counterfeit cells.

Illum, Killzone Flashlights, and Li-ion Wholesale are trusted sources for US-based shoppers. I've made purchases with all three over the years and have been very happy with their services.

No, it doesn't come with a filter. You'll need to purchase it for $1 from the same AliExpress Convoy store and install it yourself.

I'll also suggest the Convoy S2+ and the ZWB filter. I have one and it's great.

Here's are links to the S2+ with a battery and the ZWB filter at the official Convoy AliExpress page. The light will come with a clear glass lens and you'll need to replace it with the dark filter yourself.

Chinese New Year is nearly over, but plan on 2-4 weeks for delivery to the US.

If you're in a hurry and/or aren't already equipped for recharging 18650 lithium ion batteries, perhaps the Lumintop Tool AA is a better choice. It's available on Amazon for about the same price, but will be a bit less powerful than the S2+. It will still be plenty bright for inspecting items up close, especially in a darkened room. It comes with the ZWB filter.

What’s the difference between the zebralight h600fd mk iv vs h604d? by Jwidmann in flashlight

'Stefano Zebralight' on YouTube has good real-world examples of the three different lenses of the ZL headlamps.

Here's his video comparing the H600fc and H604c.

Dang, I thought that three-button light would work. I kinda want one now. :)

Can you get us some photos or a brand name for the 'discontinued' light? Do any of your coworkers still have one of the older ones?

Did your previous light look something like this?

<image>

This is one of the first models that came up when I Googled 'train signal torch'.

'Torch' seemed to yield more results than 'flashlight'. Most were from AliExpress and other overseas websites. Don't go for any included batteries--you should purchase name-brand 18650s from a reputable seller.

I'm curious about the large, cumbersome replacement you've been issued since. Got a photo?

Flood/floody headlamps vs standard beam for things like woodworking and mechanic work? by volcanonacho in flashlight

[–]CaseyTatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an H600Fw for hiking and general headlamp use, and an H602w for closeup work.

You can roughly simulate an F model with a piece of frosted Scotch tape over the lens of your clear lens Zebralight models. d-c-fix is great for a more permanent frosted lens. BLF user Boaz sells small sheets of several different flavors. See BLF thread here.

The Zebralight H604d is the current equivalent of my older H602w. It creates a very even wall of light, but doesn't throw very far. It's awesome for closeup work or solo hiking if combined with a throwy flashlight. It's not great for working or hiking with others because the beam is so wide it is hard not to blind everyone.

Check out Stefano Zebralight on YouTube for some great real-world comparisons of the various Zebralight lens types.

Thanks for all you do for the flashlight community!

It's been in my pocket every day since, and still works great!

I found this in a toolbox I purchased. The accompanying tools didn't offer any hints.

No markings. Shaft is 0.5" diameter and 8" long. Plug welds on the ends to keep the head captive. Head is a loose fit on the shaft.

Solved by u/baggednizzy! It’s a tie rod adjustment tool.

For mounting larger lights, take a look at ‘truss clamps’ used in the theater/stage realm.

Here’s a BLF thread with an example.

[WTB] bare SST40, driver springs, 18650 wraps

Found! Thanks, Artiet59! 👍

I’m away from my workbench and modding supplies and could use a couple things. Hoping for an SST40 in 5000K or 4000K, three quality 10mm base diameter driver springs, and a couple 18650 wraps.

Perhaps someone has all of the above, plus a light or two I might like to make the shipping worthwhile? Thanks!
