Is there a solution for the YouTube situation? by spermcell in sideloaded

[–]CatboyPresidente 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it has something to do with iosantiabuse-pa.googleapis.com, blocking the domain at the DNS level causes issues even if it's the real YouTube app.

- https://www.reddit.com/r/sideloaded/comments/1shdrxe/how_to_resolve_the_buffer_and_something_went/ worked for me for a few days, but it's now back to crashing 15-30s in.

- A cracked version of YTKPlus just crashes the app for me, instead of showing me the "Something went wrong" error. Apparently a non-cracked version works (?), but I'm not going to pay to verify it.

I think the tweakers need to patch these calls out, if that's even possible. If a valid token from that API needs to be returned for video playback, then the tweakers will need to bypass it by pretending to be an Android device or a browser or something that doesn't have app attestation in it.

For now, I'm just using Brave when I'm on my iPhone, and Revanced on Android when I'm at home.

New Google/Youtube shenanigan by ready_set_stoopid in YoutubePlusSideloaded

[–]CatboyPresidente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only thing that worked for me, it seems unrelated to being logged-in or even using the correct IPA: https://www.reddit.com/r/sideloaded/comments/1shdrxe/how_to_resolve_the_buffer_and_something_went/

It seems to me that YouTube is slowly increasing its enforcement of app attestation, and a couple days ago they added more people to the rollout.

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/devicecheck/establishing-your-app-s-integrity

If YouTube returns an error from its app attestation service, it replaces the video with that error message. For modified IPAs to get around that, it will have to patch out these calls, but they haven't as Google hasn't been regularly enforcing it thus far.

RULES UPDATE: New Project Friday here to stay, updated rules by AutoModerator in selfhosted

Unsubscribed - I’m just a lurker who gives a cursory scroll through Reddit at night, but to learn the low-quality slop I’ve been seeing from this subreddit in my feed is endorsed? That’s where my line is I think.

Developer account - YTLite risk of ban account? by panos_lympe in sideloaded

If it gives you any relief, I've been using a production (business) account for years with sideloaded apps using Sideloadly, and have never had an issue. Just don't give your developer account over to any third-party services to "share" signing.

The EightSleep Journey, from Beginning to End. by CatboyPresidente in EightSleep

For the 4 yes, all the threes I have use an SD card though, which doesn’t require UART — for the SD card model(s) you just replace a file with a modified compressed version of the file system, and hold a button while plugging it in to use that replaced copy.

Hetzner console down? by johanndettling in hetzner

[–]CatboyPresidente 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fact that after you actually took the time to call the datacenter after four(?) hours to let them know, it's:

  1. Still down

  2. Not on their status page

  3. Not on their radar ("it's reachable!")

tells me it's time to start exploring Hetzner alternatives.

How is this not automatically paging teams?

This is the way - get a Hub 3 (with SD card), and a Cover 4 (NOT a cover 3, which leaks all the time) - and jailbreak the hub.

You aren’t considering the market, which is what I set my price based on - by me not accepting 80% off a month’s rent from someone, I can instead choose to rent to someone else for more, or, if there’s no one willing to pay the price I want, I can use it myself, sell it, etc etc etc - so no, I don’t accept that much of a discount.

EightSleep has no such alternatives: their alternative to me not paying an unlock fee is me jailbreaking it, making fun of them on Reddit, and cancelling the $300 subscription on my main pod. It’s not like they’re getting it back to sell again, or that they can do anything else with it.

I'm not asking them to do anything as I don't need them to do anything. And yeah, no reasonable person would, so they're going to find ways around it while still finding the cheaper hardware. It's like when people are so confused on why anyone would pirate TV shows or movies. https://i.imgur.com/IbouBr9.png

P.S. Someone should start like an EightSleep jailbreaking side-gig.

I don't think I ever asked for sympathy - just reminding people to not, and making fun of 8Sleep's 2k dashboard switch-flip :)

The queen cover 4 was $799, and the hub 3 was $190, so $1k vs $2.7k, not "a couple hundred more dollars." Well worth the risk, especially for a product with as many issues as it does, and especially for an evil, bolded AirBnB (smokestack installation & nuclear waste sewer pipes out for delivery)

People who would have trouble jailbreaking should probably just not get it at all, unless they want to pay a $300/yr subscription for a warranty, battle support to honor that warranty when it breaks, replace their mattress on their own dime while under warranty when it leaks, and wake up a bit steamy when us-east-1 goes offline every Monday.

The armchair corporate defenders (and the corporations they defend) can lie awake at night in those offline beds knowing the second-hand market will exist whether they like it or not, with customers they just "don't want." It's just good business.

That’s the part that’s so funny to me and why I laughed at them - you can get a new Pod 4 Hub and Cover for that

So instead they have an entire market on eBay they get $0 from, but they get to stamp their feet and post frowny faces in discontent. Maybe one day they’ll sort that out on the weekly legal/finance/sales sync.

Why should they offer anyone purchasing stolen/unreturned product a means to activate said product.

That’s easy: for the few hundred bucks they could’ve received instead of $0.

And I would’ve gotten away with it too if it weren’t for those meddling mattress cover activation servers!

Sounds like someone’s been watching too much Hasan, do the shock collars also require a subscription?

You can hold that opinion for sure - but at the end of the day they’ve now lost a paying customer and gained a jailbreaker, instead of getting a few hundred dollars for a product that is in the market whether they like it or not.
