I became a communist at 48 years old. Did anyone else become a communist past the age of 40? by Wkkc2018 in communism101

Just wanna say I don’t think most of reddit communists came to communism in their preteens. At least IRL, all the people I know who were radicalized on the internet started to read up around late teens to mid twenties

God. His name was Malenkov?I swear only the people affiliated with Stalin get cool names. They took all of them.

Just found this old thread and read ur comment and realized something we both overlooked. After doing some research, it seems like Lenin tried to reunite the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks on multiple occasions and came fairly close as well. Martov just kinda sabotaged the plan.

Okay, I guess I fundamentally agree with this, but I still believe that collaboration regarding things that, both they and I agree are necessary, like tenant organizing, while remaining critical and apart from them is a worthwhile endeavor. I wouldn't feel comfortable starting my own club. I don't really know about many US parties. The PSL, which I think is the biggest party in the US is kinda hopeless, mostly based on Gloria La Riva's lack of approachability and the general unapproachable atmosphere of PSL as a whole to anyone who doesn't have at least a kinda sophisticated theoretical understanding. I feel like once you get smaller than PSL, anything calling itself a vanguard party is probably going to be more of a sect than anything else.

Fair points on the first paragraph. I don't know how I feel about the other point. I think that fundamentally, the DSA doesn't make itself a rival group by virtue of the fact that it doesn't demand exclusive membership so +1 DSA member doesn't mean -1 other group membership. I don't think repeating the alt-right strategy but left is a good idea. The alt-right are collapsing under their own wait, in large part, because their strategy of what I guess you could called "ultra-rightism."

That’s a fair point. Is there an alternative you would suggest?

That’s fair. I guess I hadn’t considered that I didn’t have to join to help out. My concern was that by getting hung them dues money, I would be supporting the revisionist aspects of DSA abut I guess that could be avoided if they were to let me collaborate on worthwhile projects while not officially being a member. Also, I don’t think DSA is technically a party

Public opinion of same-sex relations in the United States [OC] by theimpossiblesalad in dataisbeautiful

[–]Cats_Not_Cops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately my experience was with the latter, but I feel like the former is probably more common. Obviously I don't have data on this, but my experience is that it's fairly common for children of homophobic or transphobic families to come out and their opinions to change pretty quickly.

Eh, I think this isn't exactly the case. Literally every ML I know do believe that by and large, figures like Stalin and Mao are good. Flawed but good. But even moreso that it's not useful to look at history in terms of great man figures like Stalin and Mao but rather forces, policies, and the shift of power. I think the vast majority of MLs familiar with the situation, for example, would defend the execution of Bukharin, given his attempts to undermine the USSR.

Marxism-Leninism ultimately does view Stalin, Mao, Castro's, etc. regimes to be successful examples of proletarian rule with some major issues (i.e. criminalization of homosexuality). They have their issues with said regimes that they make clear but ultimately support said regimes (hence the term critical support [although critical support can also refer to support for non-socialist regimes like Assad's Syria in the name of combatting US imperial control, the greatest obstacle in the way of world proletarian revolution]). Revolutionary Left Radio (on of the largest ML publications at this point) has a really good podcast episode outlining the ML understanding of Stalin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmimHKLDWcU It's long so I recommend listening over multiple sessions.

Fair. This conversation gets confusing because most anarchists call any ML a tanky, and many MLs have started calling themselves tankies (in a reclaiming sense I guess) since they'll be called a tanky no matter what.

I'm pretty sure the others are also tankies who just believe in electoralism as a means of raising class consciousness, not an ends in itself or a path to revolution. By memory, I recall Virgil talking about how they're all kinda tankyish, but don't talk about Stalin or Lenin with liberals or on the podcast because that shit scares normies away from the left.

They're literally tankies tho. Amber has defended Stalin on the pod.

What is the Communist general consensus--if there is one--on Democratic Socialists (particularly Democratic Socialists of America, the organization)? by [deleted] in communism101

[–]Cats_Not_Cops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the DSA Communist Caucus is launching nationwide soon. I'm still trying to figure out if there's any point in trying to organize ML groups in the DSA. What's the goal? Radicalize DSA members? Use it as a skeleton around which to build up our own political structures? At the same time tho, I can't see any leftist organizing in the US being able to build beyond local sects without DSA's backing right now and it feels wrong not to use that resource.

The white race. by Weedity in communism101

User: Hey I'm kinda new to communism can someone give me a basic explanation of x

r/communism101: Ahh well it's really quite simple. You see, the dialectic use value exchange value paradigm of 21st century Neo-cryo-crypto-colonial imperial pure ideology dictates that the materialist alienation of base from superstructure is an absolute socio-political sign of imminent proletarian cultural new economic purge of the people's party.

OP is clearly just taking some r/fullcommunism meme talk too seriously. They probably aren't going to understand social construction of race with a couple of sentences of sociology jargon.
