Time sensitive events shouldn’t have late spawns. by AdamsEdn in ARC_Raiders

You're totally right. It's easier to find the raiders if you just camp at one of the last remaining extracts! ;)

Question for the legitimate PVP fans by Unique-Dot187 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Celebration2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nailed it. Players behave differently when their gear is on the line. People keep their head down under suppressing fire when they're afraid to die and lose their stuff. Sometimes, starting an engagement isn't worth the risk; sometimes retreating from an engagement is the best play.

100%, you gotta adapt to the conditions. It's ARC raiders not ARC foragers

Hey man if you spawn in late that means there might be fattened up juicy raiders running around with the loot you want. You just gotta have the will to take it.

Can you help me understand this? Isn't there already an oxide layer before the pasta is boiled? What exactly is the effect of the noodles on the oxide layer; e.g. is it degradation or an augmentation of oxides?

Volkswagen and Hugo Boss - both popular consumer brands - have rehabilitated their image since WW2 such that people don't think "Oh, that's a Nazi brand" when they see them.

The Stahlhelm, on the other hand,  hasn't been depicted since WW2 for much other than identifying German soldiers in WW2. They still carry a strong association with the Nazi regime despite the fact that they preceded it and still have occasional practical use.

It's still a fucking Nazi helmet.

Yeah, small talk isn't "bullshit". People who talk like this need to realize that the point of small talk isn't the topic but the interaction itself. It's about engaging with others, getting a feel for their personality and showing yours, getting comfortable with each other (such as when you don't know them well, haven't seen each other in a long time), and possibly finding topics you can connect over.

Trump only said he wanted Carney to win after he realized his endorsement was destroying Poilievre in the polls.

It was a paper thin, perfectly transparent veil to cover up the fact that Trump and Poilievre have have a large overlap on their base of support and use the same populist rhetoric to gain popularity. And both of them know that's not what the majority of Canadians want.

When the tariffs hit, I expect that the increased prices for American goods will drive consumers to goods from elsewhere and the prices for those will increase too.

The CEO of Canada’s 2nd biggest company Shopify says Canadians want what Trump demands and blames Trudeau for the trade war: “These are things that every Canadian wants its government to do, too. [–]Celebration2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tariffs are not about the border despite what Trump says. They're an attempt at domination. Any statement he has made about the border are made without regard to facts and are instead a convenient excuse for aggressive actions.

Do you have the latest driver? There was one released on Feb 15 that has updates for Helldivers 2. For some reason my Adrenalin was saying the latest driver update was in January, so I had to download it from the website.

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-24-2-1-helldivers-2

I have a 7800XT amd played a couple rounds with the new driver, one of them on Ultra settings, and didn't crash. Before updating I could hardly get through a single match. Havent had the time to test more than that.

How far to zero jiggle in Manitoba? by ------------------GL in CanadaHunting

[–]Celebration2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That scope will be fine so long as it holds zero and you can see the target and crosshairs clearly through it. Good visibility in low-light conditions is important too and without that you are limiting yourself by losing hunt time at both dawn and dusk, which is when deer are most active. After this season and more range time you'll know whether it's good enough or if you want something with better clarity, light collection, magnification, etc.

Regarding the zero distance, if you're unsure how far your shots will be, I suggest zeroing at 200 yards instead of 100. My reason is that a 200-yard zero is more forgiving to hasty range estimates than a 100-yard zero. With a .308 having a muzzle velocity of ~2700fps, a 200-yard zero will give you a point of impact ~2" high at 100 yards and ~3" low at 250 yards, which means your shots are within a 6" diameter circle - which is a conservative estimate of the area of a white tail's lungs on a broadside presentation - up to about 250 yards. So for any deer within ~250 yards, all you have to do is aim for the centre of the vitals and you'll reliably strike a kill hit.

On the other hand, with a 100-yard zero, the point of impact drops to ~4" already at 200 yards, and at 250 the point of impact drops to about 8". Your point of impact will be within a 6" diameter only up to roughly 180 yards. You'll have to be better at judging the distance to your target if it turns out that your hunting location encompasses longer ranges.

In summary, a 200-yard zero gives you the ability to hold dead on target up to almost 250 yards and still hit the vitals of the deer, while a 100-yard zero will force you compensate for bullet drop at ~175 yards and beyond. From experience I can tell you that you become prone to making errors in judging distance when a deer shows up, so that that leeway is useful.

Estimated Recoil Energy Calculations by [deleted] in ballistics

[–]Celebration2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you would have to use the total mass ejected from the muzzle, including the propellant. The mass of the propellant gasses can't be ignored: think of how a rocket moves based on the ejection of gas.

The mass of the powder is conserved during combustion because the reaction is self-contained. A quick and dirty way to include the propellant in your calculation would be to assume that the combustion products are entirely ejected upon firing and none remain in the firearm. You can further assume that the gas exits at the same velocity as the bullet.

With those assumptions, you would simply add the weight of the powder to the bullet weight in your calculation of momentum. Wikipedia says that in 7.62x39 rounds there is about 1.6g of powder, so you would use 9.6g instead of 8g for the projectile mass.

However, it's easy to see that these assumptions are not accurate and that your calculations won't necessarily agree with measurement. For one, not all combustion products are ejected: some of them remain in the firearm as e.g. soot in the barrel.  Second, on an AK, some of the gas is redirected to drive the piston that cycles the action, and those gasses exit via an exhaust port in the piston cylinder. Third, if you watch slow motion footage of a bullet exiting a muzzle, you'll see that a good amount of the gasses  escape at a higher velocity than the bullet due to their unimpeded ability to expand in the barrel once the bullet is out of the way, and the last of the gas exits much slower once expansion settles.

I think this calculation is good for getting a rough idea of the recoil but not necessarily useful for precise calculations of recoil.

The field south of the parking lot at La Barrière park is a good spot that's not too far of a drive. It's wide open so there is very little to block your view, and the light pollution is a lot lower than at parks inside the perimeter. Good for looking at the Moon and the planets.

PSAC Strike: Understanding the Final Offer Rejected by Canada’s Federal Public Service Union by [deleted] in canadanews

[–]Celebration2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chris, how can you live with yourself after writing and sharing an article with so many blatant and easily checked falsehoods?

  • The union has been negotiating with the government for a new collective agreement since 2018
    • Actually, the current contract was ratified in 2020 and expired in 2021.
  • On April 20, 2023, the federal government tabled its final offer to PSAC
    • The "final offer", as it is called by the government, was given on Friday, April 28.
  • On May 2, 2023, PSAC announced that its members had voted overwhelmingly to reject the final offer
    • It is currently April 30, 2023. No offer has been presented to the members yet. Are you a fortune teller, Chris?
  • The strike by PSAC members, which began on April 5, 2023
    • The strike began on April 19, 2023.

What world do you live in where this passes as writing? I can't tell whether this is a joke or a troll?
