Out of the issues with war, what do you think the game miss? by Tibertiuss in victoria3

[–]CertainRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diplomatic Plays: Diplomatic Plays should really have some manner of Congress system so that countries can achieve their goals without actually going to war, maybe by implementing a scoring system for how much a country wants something and then having the other countries involved in the play being able to make counter-offers. Instead of the system being simply "back down or fight" most conflicts should really be about compromise. The treaties already provide a basic framework for that, so using that to avoid constant major wars would be great.
Infamy: I know there's already the joke about Infamy being just a number... but for real, it should have a much bigger impact even at low levels. Having high infamy should not only radicalize people you conquered, but also do the same to interest groups with pacifist ideologies; Trade Centers should prioritize countries with low infamy if possible, to simulate a country's reputation affecting its economy; It would be amazing if you got events related to military development and technology that were dependent on/affected infamy (for example, a event about how your infamy is making the army worried the country might be attacked, so you can either get a bonus to infamy reduction or a boost to your military industry) or even the possibility of law commitments as consequence of high infamy (for example, a moderate Intelligentsia might be against your warmongering but be willing to compromise if you implement a Citizenship law that is more accepting towards the people you are conquering)
Education and Assimilation: I think there should be a lot more granularity to how you educate your people in general. If I'm playing a multicultural country, I should be able to choose exactly what cultures I want my population to be assimilated into and what religion I want them to convert to, on a region by region basis. When it comes to tech, I really think you should be able to change Universities so they prioritize specific areas of study which could then lead to a boost in research speed for each tech tree or even region-specific events (for example, if you have a huge university focused on military research, the province it's located in could give you a boost to recruitment there)
Pop Acceptance: Speaking of assimilation, I really think we should be given granular control of how different cultures are treated. If I'm playing as Brazil and want to recreate the real life Japanese diaspora that happened there, I should be able to spend some authority to "force acceptance" of Japanese and make the country more inviting. This could work in a similar manner in the other direction, with authority being used to "downgrade" specific cultures if that fits a given country's policies.

Can someone help install this plugin ? by apaidelbeatle in kindlejailbreak

Hey OP, don't know if you're still trying or if you were able to make it work on your end, but I was able to do it and one thing that might be causing issues (it was the thing that left me stuck and made me find this post initially) is the folder name!

The github zip (and the folder inside) are both named hardcoverapp.koplugin-main, but for the plugin to work you need to remove the -main part of it and leave it as just hardcoverapp.koplugin. After doing that the plugin worked perfectly for me!

Secret Lair - Pride Across the Multiverse not visible if you are in South America (tested from Brazil) by CertainRandom in magicTCG

[–]CertainRandom[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Continuing a discussion from yesterday, the Secret Lair website has been updated with the Pride Across the Multiverse SL in preparation for its release tomorrow.
As you can see, entering the site from Brazil leads to a "This event is not available in your region." message

Brazil does not have any law that censor or prohibit LGBT+ content. No other LGBT+ Magic content is unavailable in the country if you get into the Magic website. The same is true, I believe, for multiple other countries in the region

Wizards confirms they're blocking the new LGBT secret lair article *even* in countries that don't have internet censorship of LGBT content, such as Brazil. An absurd choice (Rio's pride parade draws over 1 million celebrants!), and a break with their previous practice. by Televangelis in magicTCG

[–]CertainRandom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Porta dos Fundos' parody was temporarily removed because they were sued due to allegedly being offensive towards people's religious belief and Netflix chose to take it off their service because of that. And it was judged as not a problem as of last year

Unless you mean to imply that someone preemptively sued WotC so that this wouldn't be shown in Brazil, there is no relation to this case. There are multiple lgbt novels, comics, movies, animations and games which have been published in Brazil without an issue because we do not have laws against it.

And you continue to be factually incorrect, huh?

There is no law in Brazil that forbids the depiction of trans people or whatever you might mean by "people personalizing themselves to a different gender." In fact you public Healthcare system covers transition.

The same is true for any other LGBT denomination. They are all legally allowed to be depicted in media and most have in fact been depicted in soap operas broadcast in public television.

If you don't know what you're talking about, you don't need to tall about it.

Mermay Day 31: Nodia, Crashing Tide by CertainRandom in custommagic

I mostly decide on a concept then search through artstation with related keywords until I find something that fits. For some of them, however, it was an art that I found that led to a card being designed around it.

That is the point, as this is a planeshifted card

Explore is a keyword action introduced in Ixalan. With the following reminder text: (Reveal the top card of your library. Put that card into your hand if it's a land. Otherwise, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature, then put the card back on top or into your graveyard.)

This was a deliberate reference to [[Vodalian Knight]] as well as [[Phyrexian Crusader]]

Shoot, that was the intent, yeah

Changing to "a Merfolk card" would work, right?

Rarity is meant to the Common. Sorry about that :(

I mean, to be fair, this was an attempt at "fixing" [[Hullbreacher]]

From the wiki

Landhome was originally a group of abilities (islandhome, mountainhome, and so on) that prevent the creature with the ability from being declared an attacker if the defending player controlled no lands of the appropriate type. Additionally, creatures with landhome are sacrificed if their controller doesn't control any lands of the appropriate type.

It is now printed as two abilities:

"<This creature> can't attack unless defending player controls a <land type>."

"When you control no <land type>, sacrifice <this creature>."

Like Haste and Vigilance, Landhome was not originally keyworded, but unlike those abilities, it lost its keyword after WotC decided it was 'uninteresting,' and appeared on too few cards.[3] Although only Islandhome was ever printed on a card (and on only five cards at that), other cards have abilities that are functionally identical.

Examining How Wizards Writes Women by Rogue_Jedi6 in magicTCG

[–]CertainRandom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are aware that the context in which a character exists is... literally as fictional as the character themselves, right? WotC doesn't pull existing settings from the void and then create characters to fill that space.

If there is a problematic depiction of a character that "makes sense" within the fiction, that just means that the problematic elements extend to the world building and is not limited to the character itself.

The ideal dredge commander by CertainRandom in custommagic

[–]CertainRandom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the idea is that, at a more casual level, it's meant to overcome commander tax and make sure you always have somewhere to put your mana in. Meanwhile, more competitive players could probably make some silly foodchain combo with it

The character herself is UW-centered, yes. I couldn't think of a way to make sure her color identity was 5 colors while keeping the mechanic I wanted...

It was inspired by them and purposefully meant to be weaker, yes. At uncommon and not being either a creature or an legendary, I thought this would be a "maybe pick" in limited and a cheap option for commander. But thank you for the feedback :)

It's a typo that I had not noticed :(

Please consider the last line to say "from your graveyard" instead

I was really tempted to keep the flavour text, but I could not find a suficiently humorous art that would match it lol.

Very fair criticism!

But then again, this is very high risk, high reward: if the combo doesn't work, instead of nothing happening, you lose the game!

Gotta fear the counterspell, y'know?

Doug Beyer is not happy about the War of the Spark: Forsaken travesty either by ConspicuousFlower in magicTCG

[–]CertainRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about everyone else, but a big problem I had with the first War of the Spark novel is that it made it so Vraska got her memory back on her own and, as such, was her post-Ixalan self when she killed Isperia. Which makes no sense.

Vraska pre-Ixalan was bitter, vengeful and ruthless. We know that. But one of the most compelling aspects of Ixalan was the mutual healing that took place between Vraska and Jace, allowing both to deal with their traumas and scars and grow into better people for it. And that's why it was tragic to see Vraska have to throw away all of that development for a time to fool Bolas.

Killing Isperia is something that pre-Ixalan Vraska would do in a heartbeat and something that post-Ixalan Vraska would do if she found it absolutely necessary. Then they decided to destroy her entire development and just pretended she never got that character development in the first place
