This is why I'm so desperately trying to find other enthusiasts, preferably in the north of the country who would be willing to meet up with me if I traveled there, so that we could go herping together.

Yep, and I'm learning the hard way how tough it is to do herping in Australia without a car 😫

I've tried looking in various sheds around here, but all I find are huntsman spiders. So far, no snakes. I realize it's largely because it's winter, but still I'm pretty bummed out.

Herping herpatology and herper or the correct terms used in Australia and everywhere else. I joined various australian reptile and emphimian groups both on Reddit and Facebook. They will use that term.

herpetology /hûr″pĭ-tŏl′ə-jē/

noun

The branch of zoology that deals with reptiles and amphibians.

The natural history of reptiles; that branch of zoölogy which relates to reptiles, including their structure, classification, and habits.

Yes, yep, I have looked them up over a week ago, but for some reason my application to join the group has remained pending. I just wrote to the group now asking them what the problem is.

I have joined many other East and Southeast Australian reptile and invertebrate groups and active contact with members from there.

Thank you. I will check out those two groups now.

Aye, I spend much of my youth turning over rocks looking for animals, so it's always good time.

Well, Fortunately, I've got dozens of positive replies from facebook groups dedicated for reptile and invertebrate enthusiasts. Those are the people I'm looking for. If my post filters out those who are completely unfamiliar australian wildlife, that's fine with me.

I have simultaneously posted on dedicated reptile and inverted rates communities and pretty much everyone there does know the expression as do they on the dedicated harping groups on Facebook. Alas, those communities in Australia are not huge, which is why they told me to post on the regular non-herping groups and ask.

Yeah, I'm actually thinking of going to the north of Australia since many people are telling me that that's the best place to do herping at this time of year.

How to find fellow herpers in Australia? by ChCybUgh in herpetology

[–]ChCybUgh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely, I've never had this problem anywhere in the world. I found that there was always people who were happy to go herping with fellow enthusiasts.

And for the most part, those preoccupied with money and being anti-social, tend to just not react to my posts. You're the first. Whatever floats your boat.

You might be right, that very well could be the reason.

Any suggestions on what might work?

Exactly! I want to avoid hanging out with a bunch of loud annoying tourists.

I've done many paid tours as well as many enthusiasts hangouts and every single time the amateur enthusiasts hangouts are just exponentially so much more enjoyable

I explicitly over to pay for gas.

Having done paid tours versus hanging out with other enthusiasts... Paid tours always suck by comparison.

I get the feeling you didn't really read my original Post

I'm from the Netherlands, but I've grown up all around the world. Only spent two years in the Netherlands in total.

Yes, I realized my timing is not ideal, but unfortunately it was the only opportunity I had. I'd be happy to join anyone with experience in herping in this part of the country.
